Music Thread #1 for 10/22/08 (Exclusively Hip-Hop)- Lyfe Jennings Cuffed Up Again (And Maybe for Good); T.I Well On His Way To Plat

(Photo from www.bermudatourism.com)

Not very positive news at all.
R&B singer Lyfe Jennings was arrested in Smyrna, Georgia on October 19 after leading police on a high speed chase after police responded to a report of shots fired.

Police then noticed Jennings' 2005 Chevrolet Corvette leaving the area where the shots were fired and began to pursue him.

Jennings would not stop for police and ended up crashing his vehicle thus ending the chase.

Jennings already did 10 years for arson, and now, this could be the end of his career. What a sad story.

On the flip side, despite the problems with Louis Vutton and Gucci, Tip Harris shouldn't be in a bad mood unless something personal went down, especially if he has seen this (which I can guarantee, he has):
If it weren't for Country star Kenny Chesney, T.I. [click to read] would have topped the charts for three straight weeks. Paper Trail [click to read] fell over 40,000 units short of the debuting star though, as T.I. may find himself past the million mark next week with one more strong week. Time will tell how T.I. stands when Kanye West and 50 Cent enter the charts before year's end.

While the Game finally got to "gold status" with L.A.X, the same can't be said for Nas, who is still a good 80,000 copies shy.

And that my people, is a damn shame.

Finally for this thread, we'll leave you with news about those former favorite shock jocks of everybody, "Star & BucWild", and their next move (and how in New York, the only morning radio show worth listening to is Steve Harvey).
After returning to New York radio in January, Troi "Star" Torain and Timothy "Buc Wild" Joseph are making yet another departure from radio. The duo left 87.7 WNYZ Pulse 87, the most listened to dance music station in the country, on an optimistic note earlier this week.

"I'm proud of my role in the launch of Pulse 87 and I leave with a new found respect for the dance music culture," Star said in a statement.

The departure of Star and Buc Wild was a joint decision, with the programming director of Pulse 87 wanting to maintain its "stationality" for its listeners.

Stationality? Didn't even know that was a word. In fact, it is.

Anyway, this just shows the further demise of Star, and how irrelevant he is now. Pulse 87 only has a ten mile radius, and most of New York doesn't even know where it is at. And "dance music" isn't poppin off anywhere, not even in Saskatchewan.

But no one can't say that he didn't raised the stakes in the radio morning hip hop game like he and Buc Wild did, especially in the late 90's and early 2000's.
