The Flashback Fridays #2 For 4/30/10: Craig David- Fill Me In (2001)

9 years ago, this terrific British R&B crooner made his debut at 18, having already conquered England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, also all known as Britain. And though the rest of his career has stagnated....this next song put him on the map over here and it did over here. It's Craig David's 1st ever single for the States and throughout, it's "Fill Me In" folks: Your Flashback Fridays for this week folks. Hope you enjoyed it folks.

The Glorious End To A Glorious Era

Image
And a throwback from yesteryear and thensome. The interview highlights from over the course of time (though the most recent ones may dominate the majority of them in this deserving thread for him). And this video for last week, his closing commentary on the American Dream, which was touching. The final episode of Bill Moyers Journal, with Bill Moyers, airs tonight on your local PBS station at its regular time. It's a 90 minute finale, taking place in the heartland, a journey to the state of Iowa. But even if this esteemed individual signs off on TV for good, you can sign on of him at his Twitter page . And you never know, for you could sign on with him in person somewhere, at someplace, at sometime.

The Break For 4/30/10: Lovely....Another Drilling Rig Overtunes

Image
And another one : The U.S. Coast Guard said Friday that a drilling ring has overturned in the Charenton navigational canal near Morgan City, Louisiana. The rig has a 20,000-gallon diesel fuel capacity, and Coast Guard pollution investigators have determined that the rig is not leaking fuel at this time, officials said. As a precaution, 500 feet of containment boom has been deployed around the rig. The Coast Guard has established a safety zone 1,000 yards on either side of the incident. Who needs the real "Black Sea" over in Europe when you can make your own one at home. Touching stuff.

The Fun Thread #2 For 4/30/10: The Boondocks Week Continues- The Legend Ganglicious Episode

Utter euphoria is this episode: Part 1: And Part 2: More to come folks.

The Fun Thread #1 For 4/30/10: Openly Gays Aren't Allowed In The Army, But A Lady Gaga Video Parody Dancing Is?

John McCain and all the bigots may have a hissy fit if they see this video. Especially since it was in Afghanistan where this all went down at. And they may somehow use this video to highlight once again their lovely bigoted position of how gays shouldn't be in the military, even hough Lady Gaga isn't gay. Oh......and if they use that philosophy, then I guess that means that these individuals who participated in this hilarious video must be discharged from their units. More to come in the fun thread folks.

Spill, Baby, Spill!

Image
This early in this month from our current President, as reminded to us by Mr. Moulitsas : Ooops. I guess he forgot to say "except when BP conducts them." Let this whole week forever be a reminder with how unnecessarily stupid an idea that Obama Administration made by trying to be centrist by opening up the option to expand offshore drilling. This is what happens when being centrist can cause bad ideas instead of doing the obvious common sensical right thing. Now David Axelrod (Obama's advisor for those who still somehow don't know) said this morning that BP won't be drilling anymore until they know more about the spill. So despite all of this, BP may drill yet again? If that's the case, then may I recommend the Mississippi River for you BP! I might as well recommend that since you somehow haven't been banned from ever drilling again despite ruining numbers of lives along with the environment because of your wonderful spill. Now can you &q

The Flashback Fridays #1 For 4/30/10: Slick Rick- Children's Story (1988)

Everything has fallen in for the Spurs, form shots to loose balls, while the Mavs gotten rimed out shot after rimed out shot. 4th quarter: The Mavericks have come back in this game.....but will they do it in the final quarter? The final: Well, it comes down to just better coaching. Spurs over the Mavs again.

Sports Thread #1 For 4/29/10: UEFA Europe League Semifinals, 2nd legs

Image
Photo from Getty Images Thanks to another miraculous, thrilling comeback at Craven Cottage, Fulham have adavanced to their first continental final with a 2-1 win over Hamburg on the night. The full review to comeback, but bask in the celebration that Zoltan Gera shows here, as he scored the match and aggregate winner to send some parts of London ablaze in crazy euphoria. But an all-Premier League Final was prevented, as Diego Forlan put another dagger into Anfield hearts with his 102th finish from the terrific Jose Antonio Reyes to send Aletico Madrid to their second final of this season (Copa del Ray is the other final). The full review of a memorable night the UEFA League for both matches. Here is Fulham's unbelievable win and here .

Yesterday's Leftovers For 4/29/10: And Yet, They Are Still Treated As Though They Are Important & Smart

Man, oh man , oh man : In a sane world, Bob Corker would never speak on a financial issue (or any other issue for that matter) again. This clown talks about not being in the politics of this, yet he voted against cloture one on Tuesday and once on yesterday . Oh, and by the way, we sure as hell don't live in a sane world.

Sports Thread #1 For 4/28/10: He'll Be Banned From Barcelona Forever

Image
Photo from Getyy Images The city of Barcelona's worst nightmare is the happiest dream of Jose Mourinho. Inter Milan have defeated Barcelona to advance to the Champions league Final in a night at the Nou Camp that lived up to all the hype for the naturals. Despite losing 1-0 on the night thanks to Gerald Pique's cooly timed goal in the 84th minute, Inter's defense held strong for most of the match at 10 men, as Thiago Motta was sent off with a straight red in 28th minute. The full review here with more analysis later.

The Tube For 4/28/10: Those Ratings You Say

Image
The Nielsen ratings shows all crazy people in this nation still love to watch their Fixed Propaganda. It is still the clear cut #1 as expected of course . However, there is a decline in their numbers. A oooooooooooohhh. It's a slight slip, but it is still a slip. And it could be the start of something Though Fox News remains #1, it is showing some signs of wear and tear: the network was down 19% in primetime total viewers and 13% in the prime demo compared to last April; it was down 17% in total day total viewers and 16% in the total day demo as well. Of course, Fox News is not the only network that's down — CNN is down 40% in primetime and 35% in total day in both total viewers and the demo, and MSNBC is down 6% in total viewers in both primetime and total day — but it is a sign that Fox News' once unstoppable ratings growth has tapered off. Not only that, but the Goldboy crazy one's audience maybe starting to wane bit by bit like the sponsors did in the begi

The Break #2 For 4/28/10: The Gaffe Of The Year Not From Michael Steele

Image
Seriously, this is massive overthere in the technical motherland of the U.S. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been caught on microphone describing a voter he had just spoken to in Rochdale as a "bigoted woman". Sixty five-year-old Gillian Duffy had challenged Mr Brown on a number of issues including immigration and crime. As he got into his car, he was still wearing a broadcast microphone and was heard to say "that was a disaster". Mr Brown later apologised after the tape was played to him as he was interviewed on BBC Radio 2. After listening to the recording, with his head in his hands, he said: "I do apologise if I've said anything that has been hurtful." Now I don't know how strong the word "bigot" is over there and to whether it is seen as a sexist term in comparison to just being called a racist here in the 50 State Union. But I do know this: Brown is fully into damage control right now. Score one big time for David Came

The Break/The 1st Thread For 4/28/10: Sandra Bullock Does What She Has To Do

Yesertday Leftovers For 4/28/10: In The Mind Of The Washington Toast, 50 Cent Is Thurgood Marshall

Image
Joan McCarter was the one brave enough to write about the Washington Toast's stupidity today, and Mr. Moulitsas also summed it up nicely in his tweet . But just to talk about it, it weird considering The Post gives a platform to The Root to exist. Now I think this was more of a painful mistake that we can all laugh at, a moment of awful indolence by the editor of the web version. But I know for sure (as you should too, the reader) that The Shrub W. would not have a headline about him juxtaposed under a picture of say, Richard Nixon or Herbert Hoover. And by the way, Malcom X is not the equivalent on "the left" of those two, for all addicted to the madness of the false equivalency. Your liberal media.

Music Thread #2 For 4/27/10: M.I.A- Born Free (2010)

The most controversial video since.......Eryaku Badu's video. But this 9 minute mini masterpiece is really something to witness, even hough no one under 12 should see it. My goodness, is it real and thensome. And I didn't even know she told her label to go screw themselves : Shortly after the British singer-songwriter announced the video's debut via Twitter, she was complaining about her label, Universal Music, railing "FUCK UMG WHO WONT SHOW IT ON YOUTUBE!" She hastily backtracked on her claim, however, and though the clip is justifiably flagged for potential innapropriateness, it's readily available on her own YouTube channel. Enjoy it.

The Break For 4/27/10: The Man Who Killed Malcom X Is Pardoned

Image
Well whoppy damn do : The man who murdered Malcolm X with a 1965 shotgun blast was released Tuesday from prison. Thomas Hagan, who turned 69 this month, walked out of the Lincoln Correctional Facility around 11 a.m., said state corrections spokeswoman Linda Foglia. Hagan was spending two nights a week in the W. 110th St. facility as part of a work release program that he started in 1988 - 23 years after the assassination of Malcolm X inside the Audubon Ballroom.

Music Thread #1 For 4/27/10: B.O.B Album Is Out

Image
With the ill single that is out right now and doing it's thing: And he almost quit too, I forgot about that : B.o.B has forged quite a path for himself during his brief time in the music industry. The promising young MC is set to release his debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, on Tuesday (April 27) after a year that included announcements of alleged retirements, label squabbling and two name changes (Bobby Ray and then back again to B.o.B). Now B.o.B finds himself with the #2 record in the country and his collaboration with Paramore's Hayley Williams following close behind. B.o.B said that he and his fans are finally ready for his full-length effort. Support him folks.

That's S----tty Deal (Goldman Hacks Getting Grilled)

Image
Live by just clicking the Goldman photo at the top or the link right here , since C-SPAN doesn't have embed codes yet. Oh, and this just fully explains how either they don't know what they are doing at Goldman Sachs. Or, as I and everyone else should clearly believe, their mendacity is off the charts disturbing : Updated : Carl Levin just got really really really real just now, reading the emails of Goldman Sachs to their Chairman about describing their shady deals and basically being very disingenuous to their cilents. Levin read an excerpt from the email basically saying in my best paraphrasing, "We sold s----tty deals." And on that line, Levin said "s----ty" constantly, not getting any answer from this chairman. Expect S---- deal to virtually be part of many headlines, including this one, today. Here's the Video of it!

And where all of these serious GOP-er demanding that more time by had on this bill ??? Yup, no where at all to be found, besides probably in the back room yucking it up and having a good time with their wannabe fool Nelson. There is nothing quite like "The House of Lords." Update : And guess who was the first to speak right after the official vote, with Reid voting against it to start debate again.....Mark Begich and Mark Warner, who are both Democrats for those who don't know. Just another great day in The House of Lords.

The Break/Sports Thread #1 For 4/26/10: Ryan Howard Signs Big Contract With The Phillies

Image
Photo from Getty Images Looks like he will be there for the rest of his career : The Phillies signed slugger Ryan Howard to a five-year contract extension on Monday that will run through the 2016 season and guarantees him at least $125 million. The deal, which includes a club option for a sixth year, will pay the first baseman $20 million for the 2012 and 2013 seasons and $25 million for each season from 2014-16. Howard's sixth-year option is worth $23 million and includes a $10 million buyout. Howard's deal also includes awards bonuses and a limited no-trade clause, the Phillies said in announcing the deal. The 30-year-old first baseman is off to a strong start in 2010, hitting .275 with three homers and 16 RBIs so far. Worked on his fielding and has been a class act in the organization. Good for him.

The Fun Thread For 4/26/10: You Aren't A Kobe Bryant Fan Like This.........Seriously

Thank goodness that this is fake, but there has got to be someone out there, whether in LA or elsewhere, that thinks like this about Kobe: Miscelleaneous I know people really hate Kanye and all, but I don't know why Kanye made this list . Everything else though was funny, especially this: Few people in this world are more hatable than Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. There simply isn’t one shred of humanity between the two of them that would warrant not hating them, but their being a couple of grade-A douchebags isn’t what gets them on this list. While most of what they do is — on the surface — nothing but a desperate bid for more media attention, it becomes pretty plainly obvious that they are actually and truly stupid people when examined more closely. Watching the video above will make you cringe, and may actually cause permanent damage to the part of your brain that tries to cope with immense stupidity, so watch at your own risk.

This was a funny story that actually

The Straight Jacket Award For 4/26/10: At Least They Didn't Call Him The Devil

Image
Seriously : On Saturday, Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) and several other elected officials boosted Fox News host Glenn Beck at an event at the Oil Palace in Tyler, TX. The day was full of right-wing flame-throwing, including Perry saying that he was “proud” to be in an “army” of anti-Obama Americans. Another prominent theme during the event was that the country has “drifted far away from its founding values”: Gov. Rick Perry, U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, and state Rep. Leo Berman also spoke, all delivering similar messages. Berman told the crowd, “I believe that Barack Obama is God’s punishment on us today, but in 2012, we are going to make Obama a one-term president.” Their punishment, our blessings I guess. Then again, a punishment from God is also a Blessing. Or for them, they should see it that way if they are good Christians. Just for that alone, Rep Berman earns his first........... .....Straight Jacket Award

The Cinema Numbers Review For 4/26/10: Another Big Lose For J. Lo

Image
The backup plan for most this weekend was not to watch "The Backup Plan" A big lost for her, and also thankfully, a "loser" movie : It was a very lackluster weekend for North American grosses and probably will be until the summer movies get going. Tops again, but with the lowest #1 gross so far this year, was the charming but slow-starting How To Train Your Dragon 3D from DreamWorks Animation distributed by Paramount. And it's the 5th weekend in release... How embarrassing for The Back-Up Plan with its horrible concept. It debuted No. 1 Friday but fell to No. 2 Saturday. J-Lo's pic is the 2nd straight loser from newcomer CBS Films which kept delaying the release for obvious reasons: because everyone knew Jennifer Lopez can't open a movie anymore, except Les Moonves. (Sheesh, J-Lo can't even keep a record label...) Before this, J-Lo's most recent rom com, May 2005's Monster-In-Law, opened with $23.1M. Yet a CBS exec emails me that The Bac

Because There Is Always Something Worse Out There

Now we all know how dreadful Mo(u)rning Jo(k)e can be, outside of a few amazing and terrific guests. But one thing about the show's protagonist that I have to give him credit for is the fact that he will call out nutty racism or nutty actions of his own side from time to time. In this pathetic day and age, yes, that is an accomplishment for any conservative : That one moment, and this next one, will remind us that there will always be a morning show even worse and more insane than that of Morning Joe or any other network for that matter. Especially when it's a show where one of his bobbleheads find even a single thing wrong with "The Lou Dobbs Bill." "Nothing's wrong, why is this a big deal" she says. With an unhinged consistent perspective like that, I guess that means Mika Meekness is the muckraking journalist of our times .

Yesterday Leftovers For 4/26/10: Please Stop While You're Ahead Former Governor

Image
When I saw this two days ago, I was like "Whaaaaaat?" Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D) portrayed Andrew Cuomo (D) "as a man whose decisions have often been driven by political considerations and whose worldview has largely been shaped by the culture of Albany," the New York Times reports. Said Spitzer: "Toughness is not the issue. It's easy to be tough if the selection of one's target is driven by politics. The real test is, do you take on the battles that have been unpopular and perhaps seem impossible to win but are important to take on?" Spitzer has done an amazing job at rehabilitating his image by just focusing on his strength, which is slamming Wall Street as superbly as he always does. So astute has been the ex-Governor of New York's job at making people complete forgive his love for Ashley Dupree and other prostitutes that somehow, strong speculation on his soon desire to get back into political office has arisen. All of th

For those non-sports fans, the Suns are Phenoix which is in Arizona of course. And since we all know what went down on Friday, one fan thought it would be fun to make a sign dedicated to the Suns star player Steve Nash, who is a Canadian. Classic, Classic, Classic. I’d like to point out that this last one is based entirely on personal preference on the part of the follower, and as such is often not a case of Twitter misuse. But even then, it can be a little screwy. Here’s why. For the ambitious social networker, there’s applets for both Twitter and Facebook that allow the cross-pollination of the other service with your messages. In a lot of cases, this

Sunday Soulful For 4/25/10: Eric Benet- You're The Only One (2008)

Even if he will always be known as the idiot that cheated on Halle berry, Eric Benet had some real deep hits that no one can deny. Plus, in the 90's, he went through a lot with a lot of close deaths around him. So, he does get some deserving sympathy from me, even with the idiotic infidelity. And with that being said, here is the Sunday Soulful selection for this week, it's Eric Benet's "You're The Only One" from 2008. Enjoy this wonderful tune from the soulful crooner from Milwaukee.

The Straight Jacket Award For The Week Candidates For 4/25/10: Oh It Was A Week

Image
Okay folks, the Straight Jacket Award of the week, given to the nuttiest individual of the week with the most news impact, will be given later tonight. The two favorites for this award are clearly both Sue Lowden and Jan Brewer, with me favoring Lowden only because we can laugh at her "Chicken Bartering", while we can't laugh at Brewer signing "The Lou Dobbs" Bill into law two days ago. However though, there is one candidate that on other weeks would be a prime target for the prize. I still can't get over how we still give attention to this mean nutcase of an individual named Naomi Campbell .

Sunday Sunshine for 4/25/10: You Do The Right Thing. I'll Just Sit Here.

I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much. -Mother Teresa I have times, as a friend, a mom, a wife, a person, when I don’t want to show up. I want to pull the covers over my head. I want to tell you to f-off. I don’t care that it’s your birthday. I don’t like your kids. And if you touch me again, I’ll kill you. This particular month I have a night when every inch of my body was yelling: NO! DON’T GO! And I desperately want to agree. Stay home. Stay safe. I want to poll my friends until someone echos my sentiment and I can say: YES! I’M SUCH A GOOD PERSON BY STAYING HOME. (I have to say lies really loud in order to convince my stupid conscience.) But I only ask two people. Two people who tell me the truth. And they say: The right thing to do is to go. Do I hate them for telling me the truth? Sorta. But an amazing thing happens. As the voices in my head begin mounting a protest with signs and snappy

Saturday Night Thread For 4/24/10 (Version #1): The Other Avatar Has Its Own Movie Coming Out

You know, that Nickelodeon "Avatar" that really really was one quality mature cartoon . Here is the final trailer of the big movie coming out in July : The Miscellaneous What a surprise that they had such glee in other people's pain : When credit rating agencies downgraded many billions of dollars of mortgage-backed investments in October 2007, Goldman executive Donald Mullen was unabashedly pleased. " Sounds like we will make serious money," Mullen wrote to Michael Swenson, another executive, in one of the e-mails released by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Goldman has argued vehemently that it did not profit from the mortgage meltdown. They are right, for they didn't profit from the mortgage meltdown. They profited, pilfered, and pinched themselves in such glee and happiness. 10 Amazing Inventions that you probably didn't know existed....because I sure didn't. The esteemed Service Employees International Union is set to officially name a new President. And that President is poised to be the first women President in the union's history, as well as the first openly gay leader of the SEIU. With the retirement of current President Andy Stern, the big union groups from across the country have chosen Mary Kay Henry over Stern's preferrer choice Anna Burger as the next person to lead the SEIU (and guarantee her position on the chalk board next week of the Goldboy nutty one). As Ben Smith notes in one of the rare Politico pieces I will ever link in a post coming from me, the SEIU wanted a change from the pace they were clearly on in regards to their focus : Stern turned SEIU into a political juggernaut, with millions of members, an activist tradition, and a willingness to spend more than $30 million electing President Obama the ultimate mark of its emergence as arguably the most important independent political force in America. Gettin’ hotter in Arizona: Immigration hawk John McCain says that if Obama doesn’t like the immigration law, he should send in Federal troops, reports the Arizona Republic. “If the president doesn’t like what the Arizona Legislature and governor may be doing, then I call on the president to immediately call for the dispatch of 3,000 National Guard troops to our border,” McCain said. “And that way, then the state of Arizona will not have to enact legislation which they have to do because of the federal government’s failure to carry out its responsibilities, which is to secure the borders.” McCain not only wants to just stick it to Obama (although he'll always fail in that), but also because of how much trepidation he is feeling from J.D. Hayworth in that nutty pr

Arizona Signs Control Immigration Law, Replaces Virginia As Insane State Of The Month

Image
We should all call this bill " The Lou Dobbs Bill ." Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer today signed into law an immigration bill that gives the state toughest law in the nation, making it a state crime to be in the country illegally and requiring local police to enforce federal immigration laws. Brewer said she signed the bill in response to "the crisis the federal government has refused to fix.'' Hispanic leaders addressing the hundreds of protesters at the Capitol immediately vowed to wage a legal fight. The new immigration law will require anyone whom police suspect of being in the country illegally to produce "an alien registration document," such as a green card, or other proof of citizenship such as a passport or Arizona driver's license. Dora the Explorer, Rodrigo Lopez and his fellow Latino teammates on the Arizona Diamondbacks, and everyone else brown should watch out now. You may be deemed way too brown for some people's likings. Sports Thread #1 For 4/23/10: 2010 NFL First Round Review

Clearly the most touching moment last night in the 1st round was Gerald McCoy hugging Roger Goodell after he was selected by Tampa Bay with the third overall pick: McCoy's mother passed away in his red shirt freshman year at Oklahoma. To see him drafted with all that on his mind was a site for everyone, even non-football and/or non-sports fans, to see.

The One Sentence Thread For 4/23/10: Overreaching Of The Federal Government

President Obama's decision to weigh in on Arizona's new potentially racist immigration policy is the oppressive government overreach on state's rights again!

The Straight Jacket Award #2 For 4/23/10: Why Do We Still Give Her Any Attention?

Image
She could smack someone in the face, and she still would get a camera and proper attention . It's truly amazing that in the always prevalent discussion of the "angry black woman" that seems to forever be ubiquitous no matter the time frame that she never is mentioned as a true proponent of that. Maybe simply because she's just an attractive individual (and British) that she will never get lumped into the asinine narrative and sentiments thought of towards her African-American counterparts in gender and race. But if there is one case for just an ungrateful, selfish, and consistently classless individual, no matter the color or the group, "Nasty Naomi" certainly is at the top of the list. At least she's always consistent though, with her meanness. And with that said, she is a deserving winner of...... ...The second Straight Jacket Award of the day. I guess those anger management classes over the years just haven't worked out well.

The Cinema #1 For 4/23/10: First, Giving Love To Last Week's "Kick Ass"

Since there was no The Cinema last week thanks to technical difficulties, much love has to be given for how great the praise has been for the movie "Kick-Ass." It does everything to represent its title more than any other movie, for it does kick-ass. Besides the near consensus love for it that you can read for sure, here is a review from the legends at Spill that truly represents its quality ( viewer and listener discretion is advised ): High quality fun movie.

Gosh these people are so sickening : In case you didn’t think that Republicans have a strategy of delaying and obstructing everything, consider this story : Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) took to the Senate floor on Thursday to blast Republicans for blocking confirmation of nominees who were actually confirmed earlier in the day. The first-term senator castigated anonymous holds on five U.S. Attorney nominees, five U.S. Marshal nominees, and the nominee to be deputy director of National Drug Policy Control. A unanimous consent motion an hour earlier by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, had the effect of confirming those nominees, though. “A lot of states where the people’s business is not getting done because those nominees haven’t been put in place,” Shaheen said. “And the sad thing is the people who have these folks on hold are trying to get back at somebody in government, but the people who are suffering are the constituents in those

What a mentally deficient person .........seriously. BROCKPORT, NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- A Brockport, New York man was arrested on Thursday for advertising the sale of his children on the classified advertising Web site Craiglist, state police said on Friday. Joshua A. Stagnitto, 24, was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with one count of Falsely Reporting an Incident in the 3rd degree, a misdemeanor. A subsequent investigation by the New York State Police and Brockport Police Department revealed the source of the Craiglist post to be Stagnitto. Stagnitto was issued an appearance ticket to reappear in Sweden Town Court on May 3, 2010 at 6 p.m. EST.
