Music Thread #1 For 7/12/10: Not A Good Idea

To jump on stage at a music concert if you're a fan, especially at a G-Unit concert. Start it at 1:38 to save yourself sometime. Pharell is the main composer of "Despicable Me's quality stuff. Will Hayley Williams be to Paramore what Gwen Stefani was to No Doubt ? I kind of feel so despite her being a bigger , different singer.

Music Thread #1 For 12/9/09: Susan Boyle Is Platinum In Two Weeks

Image
Last week, after the news of Susan Boyle's wonderful first week sales, I said this : Boyle is on the road to going platinum in three weeks here, and it wouldn't be foolhardy to think she could push 300K in her second week (though I don't think it will happen). I really thought at day's end this week, Boyle would be within a whisker of going platinum. I was wrong. By a long, LONG shot. She has sold over a million in two weeks : usan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" album continues its hold of the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 527,000 copies (down just 25%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. After two weeks of release, "I Dreamed a Dream" is now the 10th biggest-selling album of the year with 1.23 million sold. Just wow. Doyle, as I talked about last week, is a testament once again that, if marketed right and/or capable of making quality music that can't be denied, music artists of any shape or size can sell CD's just like the 90...

Music Thread #1 For 12/2/09: Susan Boyle Wows With Massive First Week Sales

Image
I always love an underrated story...and man, that is certainly the case with one Susan Boyle. I (and many others I might add) didn't expect this. But I am pleasantly surprised YouTube sensation and former "Britain's Got Talent" contestant Susan Boyle's debut album "I Dreamed a Dream" opens at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with 701,000 copies sold in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan -- the best sales week for an album in the U.S. this year. 2009's previous high-water mark came when Eminem's "Relapse" sold 608,000 in its opening week. In fact, Boyle's sales frame is the best the chart has seen since AC/DC's "Black Ice" bowed with 784,000 upon its release in October 2008. 700K copies! And get this great stat The arrival of "I Dreamed a Dream" also marks the best opening week for a female artist's debut album since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. Boyle beats out Ashanti for t...

Music Thread #1 For 10/29/09: The Runthrough

"This Is It" cashed in 2.2 million on its premiere night . Meanwhile, MJ has made $72 million after his death . Joe Budden continues to score in the "lose" column . Shakira's time has past in my mind. Younger pop artists have basically taken over her own her lane in the game, and that single she has out right now just isn't generating anything. 50 Cent's album has leaked.....here is one link to the "Psycho" song from Eminem . And for that album, which has been planned way before even the rushed "Curtis" album, "Before I Self Destruct" isn't generating really any buzz at all. Quietly, Jay-Z and Black Eyed Peas albums went platinum last week, and both are over the 1.1 million threshold . Disappointing numbers for Mariah Carey though, and Whitney Houston will probably need a second single if she is to go platinum by year's end. And I guarantee you that this will be the worst rap album ever . This guy is not even good...

Music Thread #2 For 9/30/09: Jay-Z Gets Under 50's Skin Again

Image
Now I don't if Jay-Z did this own purpose (he probably did just to do it, knowing it was going to elicit a response), but when he said that Kanye would have did to 50 Cent or anyone else what he did to Taylor Swift at the VMA's, that of course brought Mr. Curtis Jackson to the mic. “It wasn't 50 Cent [who made the comments],” 50 told Angie Martinez. “Hip-Hop has cool punk and Jay is the coolest punk in Hip-Hop. He’s big. And his take on it is [he’s] bigger than the art form and he won’t actually and compete. Battling has been a part of the culture.” Well, I don't know what battle 50 Curtis would want. 50 loss to Kanye two years ago in that forgettable album deal battle, and if you been engrained in hip hop in a while, you know Jay-Z isn't scared of 50 of course. That's why he said what he said so freely. The funny thing about this latest comment that Curtis had to offer to Angie Martinez is this statement about Mr. "I'm ma let you finish." The ra...

Some are concerned over 50 Cent coming to chill at a South Jamaica, Queens big park party. This is just horrible to read about. Sam Ferguson, a writer for New York based urban publication Don Diva Magazine, was gunned down on the Florida Turnpike on Friday, August 14. After being shot multiple times and crashing into the concrete divider, Ferguson was pronounced dead on the scene. A native of Miami, Ferguson was brought onto the Don Diva team only a few months ago to increase the magazines presence in South Florida. Ferguson was also named the president of Don Diva South. “He was involved in all aspects of our operation,” Tiffany Chiles, Editor-in-chief of Don Diva Magazine told the Miami Herald. “He was helping us gather relevant stories. He was doing interviews, distribution -- he was really trying to market our magazine in Southern and Central Florida.” Oh my, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift may have it out!!!!! Drake fans...... he has set his date for his knee surgery. If you didn...

Music Thread #2 for 7/2/09: In Other News.....

.....Drake's overhyped, dumb but fun and smart video wasn't the only thing that happened in music today (the MJ stuff will be covered separately). Not a bad effort from Eminem. Finally, a moment of clarity from an artist who really needed it, badly. Not behind his friend Em with a new video is Curtis Jackson And um......that's about it for me for the music thread.

Music Thread #1 for 6/24/09- The Rundown, Including Jay Sean Working With Lil Wayne

Image
Photo from MTV News He's been waiting a long time to release this album, and now 50 cent is saying "Before I Self Destruct" is perfect . We'll see Another career down the drain? Maybe so rapper True Life Former Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam artist Tru Life turned himself in to authorities last night (June 23) to face a charge of 1st degree murder, according to reports. The charge is possibly tied to a brutal stabbing incident last week that left one man seriously injured, and an 18-year old teen dead. Drake co-signs Soulja boy, and I wholeheartedly agree “Soulja Boy is the smartest artist of our generation, I think period and I think out of anybody.Whoever it is, whether it’s him or his team or the people around him, whoever has the thoughts to do the things he does, is genius and I’m so happy for him.” Today's edition of "Failed music artists or figures becoming reality TV show people." Jay Sean has been getting a lot of buzz from all my Indian and Desi friends...

Music Thread #1 for 6/2/09: Anthony Hamilton's Welcomed Quick Return

Image
Okay, this is the thing with the Eminem-Bruno situation: Though Eminem was told before hand that some prank was going to go down with Sasha Cohen, he didn't know that it would get to that extent. Simple as that, and a reason why he, nor MTV have probably hasn't release a statement yet. He knew, but he didn't know the whole details. Better news for Em though, as he was apart of a star-studded event with Hova , Travis Barker and DJ AM for Activision's newest game DJ Hero, the spin off to the megahit Guitar Hero series. HAHAHA After 722 days on the market, 50 Cent has taken his Farmington, Connecticut mansion out of the running for a new resident. The Hartford Courant reports that the 50,000-square-foot home’s asking price of $14.5 million was too much to attract potential buyers. "The house is not worth $1[dollar] over $5 million," Prudential Premier Homes agent Rob Giuffria told the newspaper, as he joined local real estate agents in alluding to the mansion...

Music Thread for 1/6/09- Contrary To Reports, Hudson Will Not Sing At Obama Inauguration

Image
Photo from SOHH The Whole Delivery's long overdo first "music thread" of 2009, the always real perspective on exposing the BS of the music industry, as well as providing you with wonderful sentiments from the music news given to you. Despite every rumors indicating that Jennifer Hudson was going to sing at President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration, the opposite is the actual truth . She won't be singing there instead. TWD sends its condolences for the death of Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton . The Listen Interscope Records maybe happy to see Eminem and 50 Cent have new songs, but in today's "The Listen", they aren't much to gloat about at all. Dre comes a little okay in Em's "Crack A Bottle", but both songs are respectively lower versions of their more acclaimed hits. "I Ge It In" wants to be "In Da Club", and "Crack A Battle", for him having a long layoff, just doesn't stick out for a single. It w...

Music Thread #1: Good Bye TRL (And Good Riddance)

Image
Photo from MTV.com Thank goodness that this show is now over. The big finale was on Sunday. Shareem reid, as usual, paints the happy narrative for his fellow co-workers . (and employer): Sure, the "TRL" finale was definitely live on Sunday night (November 16) — live, as in you saw exactly what happened, when it happened, and it was one helluva extravaganza — but it's not that type of party. More on this later.

Music Thread for 9/30/08- Janet Spends Two Days In Hospital: DMX Spends Two Minutes in Court

Image
Photo by Scott Gripes of Getty Images, via VH1. The run through in the world of instrumental rhythm that we simply call, "music." At least it was only 2 minutes , the total duration of the time spent today in court by DMX. But someone at DX made a great point. Where are his fellow "Ruff Ryders?" You know its true when they say "you have no friends in this world" because I love DMX and he is one of the realest people in hip hop and it is sad what happened to him but where the f--- are his peoples??? I don't hear anything about Eve supporting him, no Swizz Beats, not even Jay-z coming to help this man out. Nobody showing up for his court dates or visiting him in jail. Its f----- up. I guess its true, you find out who is really with you when your locked up. MTV and Diddy will continue their annoying and warn out happy marriage by the network giving him another self-propaganda show . Let's see who will be the latest dumb sap (or saps) to get pimped ...

Music Thread for 9/29/08- Rap City Joins TRL on the Shelf (And the Economy Has Nothing to do with It)

Image
Photo from ATLNightLife: Thanks to it being an original, most impressive chain, Sean Kingston became the latest person in the urban music world to have his chain jacked. Quick News thread run through. Some good, some bad, and some that is quite frankly, deserved Especially the first two stories. Rap City is done. BET is pulling the plug on a show that long ago should of have been pulled out. No one was watching it anymore, and even if Q45 tried his best after the failure that was Madd Linx, the writing was on the all. At least they can put on another mediocre black sitcom on their afternoon block. Here's looking at LL Cool J's "In The House." Hahahaha, that's what you get for spending half a mill on a chain. Sean Kingston $500,000 chain has been stolen from the mail. The teen rapper, best known for his Summer 2007 hit “Beautiful Girls, had his sister FedEx the gawdy chain from Los Angeles to New York but when the package arrived on Sean’s doorstep (a day late...
