The Break For 8/16/10: Marriage Equality On Hold As Stay Is Ruled For At Least 2 Months

Image
Man, just when the good news was continuing to emerge on this issue , gay marriage will not be able to recommence in California this week . In fact, it will be on hold for at least another 2 months, as the Circuit Judges have ruled on the STAY to be extended until more appealing . The denial of rights or gay people continues, as the system takes place.

The 1st Thread For 8/5/10: Axelrod Says That Obama Still Doesn't Want Gay marriage Despite Claiming Equality

Image
Another one of those great moments in centrist "take no positions" thinking ! President Obama remains opposed to same-sex marriage despite a federal judge's decision to strike down a ban on such marriages, a top White House adviser said Thursday. Senior adviser David Axelrod said the president supports "equality" for gay and lesbian couples, but did not address directly Obama's position on Wednesday's court ruling, which struck down as unconstitutional California's Proposition 8, a 2008 ballot initiative banning same-sex marriage in the state. "The president does oppose same-sex marriage but he supports equality for gay and lesbian couples," Axelrod said on MSNBC. Just as egregious as our "National Inability To Just Say Sorry" is our obvious "National Inability To Do The Obvious Right Thing", lead by our newly 49th birthday President yesterday. "Does oppose same sex marriages but supports equality" is so...

Dan Choi Has Been Discharged

Image
Photo from DEAN WRZESZCZ The insane policy has finally gotten to this terrific man. And he was foreign to it despite expecting the inevitable : The gay activist and former Army lieutenant who has been a vocal critic of the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy told Gay City News that he has not received any notice that his discharge under that policy was finalized on June 29. “As far as I know, I haven’t been notified of my discharge except by the Gay City News,” Choi said on July 21. “Obviously, I expected it to happen.” Speaking by phone from Las Vegas a few hours after being released from jail for the arrests that he and seven other members of the activist group GetEqual faced as the result of blocking traffic during a protest, Choi said he learned his discharge was final when Gay City News reported it on July 20. He had no clue even though the end result he had prepared for the moment he has gone public in assailment on one of the most idiotic, asinine, and total dumba-- po...

Schumer Recommends First Openly Gay Male Federal Judge

Image
As the fight to repel "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is currently receiving its deserved growing attention, another boon for equality for the gay community is taking place with the potential news of the first openly gay male judge to serve on the federal court. Chuck Schumer has recommended to President Obama that one Daniel Atler be that individual to make such history. In a statement, Schumer said he recommended Alter because he’s “a brilliant attorney who possesses the knowledge, balanced views and temperament required of a federal judge.” “His outstanding leadership skills, his commitment to justice, and his extensive experience make him an exceptional choice for a position on the federal bench,” Schumer said. “I’m proud to nominate Daniel Alter. Period. But I am equally proud to nominate him because he is a history-maker who will be the first openly gay male judge in American history.” His resume' alone, gay or straight, is seriously impressive: A graduate...

The Read International For 12/9/09: Um, Less Worst?

Image
I guess since the whole "killing you if you are gay" deal is gone : Uganda will drop the death penalty and life imprisonment for gays in a refined version of an anti- gay bill expected to be ready for presentation to Parliament in two weeks, James Nsaba Buturo, the minister of ethics and integrity, said. The draft bill, which is under consideration by a parliamentary committee, will drop the two punishments to attract the support of religious leaders who are opposed to these penalties, Buturo said today in a phone interview from the capital, Kampala. But still very very ugly, and sad.

Rick Warren, Please Shut Up

Image
Mr. Cone of Silence continues his hatred of gays today. After refusing to condemn that disturbing Uganda bill, Warren, clearly bothered by all the heat he's receiving from his non-action statements on this, had the audacity to post this on his Twitter account: Translation: I really don't give a damn about those gay people, especially if they are overseas. For a man who is suppose to love all individuals the same (as everyone should for that matter), and a renowned pastor in this country, it was beyond embarrassing to look at. Warren's behavior breathes the "Who gives a damn about gays" attitude that is deep within his soul, and some other figures who are supposedly the "true stalwarts of upholding Christianity" in this country. As a Christian, this is yet another embarrassing episode on our faith that I have witnessed time and time again. I would love to see a gay Christian come up to Warren, and ask him, "So, how do you love everyone equally whe...

Election Day 2009 Thread #2: Maine To Strip Same Sex Marriage Away

Image
AP's Pat Wellenbach The bigots have won again. Maine is the new California. Safe sex marriage will be repelled in Maine as the majority vote has swung to get rid of it with about 14% of the vote left.

Well, What Do You Know....It's Legal To Be Gay In India

Image
Yup A court in the Indian capital, Delhi, has ruled that homosexual intercourse between consenting adults is not a criminal act. The ruling overturns a 148-year-old colonial law which describes a same-sex relationship as an "unnatural offence". Homosexual acts were punishable by a 10-year prison sentence. Rational thinking in rational times. But will they go the marriage route........like some in America?

Obama's Pandering After Criticism....And Pandering Isn't That Good

Image
To me, he only did this because of the justified rising pressure on him from the gay community I'm sure this will quell rising LGBT anger with the administration... Reacting to a rising tide of anger from gay and lesbian supporters at a series of slights and deferred promises, President Obama will tomorrow extend some benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees. The move, which begins to mirror the policy of many large corporations, will have an immediate effect for many workers, but it is a deeply reactive response to a core Democratic group whose concerns have been festering for six months. The presidential memorandum -- scheduled for signing tomorrow at 5:45 p.m., may in the short term, give Joe Biden something positive to say at a June 25 fundraiser that has seen prominent guests drop out, a host sharply attack the administration, and which is expected to be marked by protests. However, the Defense of Marriage Act prohibits the federal government from extending health...
