The Flashback Fridays #1 For 2/7/14: Kanye West ft Mos Def, Freeway & The Harlem Boys Choir - Two Words (2004)

Image
In celebration of the 10 year anniversary of one of the best albums ever in my mind, The College Dropout, it will be a "Flashback Friday" tribute to some of the singles that made Kanye's first release a treasured classic. It's the magical "Two Words" with Mos Def & even Freeway himself staying on beat with disclipine, and the Harlem Boys Choir adding that sensational, icing on the cake to make this such a wonderful gem. And of course, the magical Chicago video had to be directed by the legendary duo of Coodie and Chike with Kanye's vision. Enjoy this special track from ten years ago. (Just look at who was in the video, include Dave Chapelle. It just doesn't get more wonderful than this).

TWD Thanksgiving Black Friday Thread #1 For 11/23/12: TFF- Mos Def, Pharaoh Monache & Nate Dogg- Oh No (2000)

Rawkus Records, which amazingly enough was run by Rupert Murdoch's son James, at least was never tainted before News Corp spread its nasty influence around the place. Here's the 2000 underrated classic with just quality spitting and the Rest in Heaven to one West Coast crooning legend. Happy Black Friday to you all in America, with more coming in a bit, stay tuned at The Whole Delivery.

Music Thread #1 For 9/28/10: The Runthrough, Including New Album Release Tuesday

Image
Some notable album releases today, including Aloe Blacc's "Good Things", Ben Folds & Nick Hornby "Lonely Avenue", and Deerhunter's "Halcyon Digest." Speaking of one of the CD's that was originally suppose to drop this day, here is a great example of the pathetic times in music we live in : T.I. is still hiding out following his arrest last month, but his producer pal Pharrell is promising that his forthcoming 'King Uncaged,' album will be memorable, in spite of label pressure. According to the Neptunes frontman, who worked on the album, Tip is experiencing stress from his record label, Atlantic Records, to put out more pop-friendly songs. "He's got a crazy album. I saw, like, 60 records, and almost every record that he played me was really incredible," Pharell told MTV News. "Then there was the more poppier side of things, where the label kinda puts the gun to your head 'cause they gotta pay their bills ...

Music Thread #1 for 6/17/09: Black Eyed Peas Top The Chart for The First Time (Chart Review)

Image
Photo from MTV.com I'm shocked it has never happened before, but congrats to them Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D." bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 304,000 -- the hip-pop act's best sales week ever. It's also the first No. 1 album for the group , which had previously gone as high as No. 2. Its last set, 2005's "Monkey Business," bowed in the runner-up slot with a then-best 291,000. It had the unfortunate luck to come out the same week as Coldplay's "X&Y," which kept the Peas' at bay when it started at No. 1 with 737,000. Believe it or not, "The E.N.D." is only the second top 10 album for the Peas. While everyone else's sales go down, theirs go up. Eminem is platinum, while Dave Matthews band is well on their way. Mos Def knew his numbers were going to be low, which shows you how people don't know "quality" if it gave them a billon dollars right in your face. But I sure hope Pretty Ricky ...

Music Thread #2 for 6/10/09: He's Still Going To Court This Month

Image
Despite his attorney's best chances, Chris Brown will still have to go to court on June 22 Chris Brown lost a bid to delay a preliminary hearing in his assault case, which his attorney argued should wait for a related California Supreme Court decision. Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, filed an appeal earlier this month to try to delay the R&B singer's preliminary hearing, now scheduled for June 22. Court records show the appeal was rejected Tuesday; no reason was given. And I'm going to say this one more time....it's good to see Mos Def back and making quality music.

Music Thread for 6/9/09: Lot of Stuff To Cover Today

Image
Adam Lambert, the rock guy who "came out" and finished second on America Idol, has signed with 19 Recordings and RCA . Mos Def album is out. Please, at the very least, here it. And that includes myself as well. I guess this is a good move by Atlantic Records . But the really why I'm not all the way praising them for this move is because of how untrustworthy labels how become nowadays. Rapper Max B will appeal the charge of murder he received today . Why Wyclef, why ? Brett Michaels is ok, despite public humiliation and a broken nose staying with him. And Blink 182 is coming back . Besides Travis Barker, I haven't seen those other two guys since Windows 2000 was still the think.

Music Thread #2 for 6/3/09: TWD Condolences To The Family Of Famed Blues Singer Koko Taylor

Image
TWD Condolences are given to Koko Taylor, who passed away today at 80 . Taylor was known as the Queens of Blues, for those who didn't know, and sadly died today of heart complications after surgery. The Chicago Tribune's Greg Kot has a great obituary on her. Pink got really upset over Kanye for his obsession over "fur" in a fashion show, especially with the the vice president of PETA right by their side. DMX copped to a plea deal for his assault charge. Mos Def and Talib Kweli produce a track that's needed to be heard . My Bed-Sty pride is speaking when I say that, but with those two, it is always quality. KRS-One has an upcoming book called " The Gospel of Hip Hop ". And on a side non-music note, "So You Think you Can Dance" is the most subjective show ever.

Music Thread for 5/30/09: The New Videos

The new video for Kanye's single featuring Rihanna, "Paranoid." This video can't hurt your eyes with all the flashes. And I swear, when you watch Rihanna's transformation in this video, you would think you were watching a Sailor Moon transformation. As highlighted a few days ago , here's new Mos Def! YEAH! She is really obsessed with the black and white video (and other things in her videos), but here is "Ego" from Beyonce And for the non Hip Hop/R&B, Urban Pop fans, here's Regina Spektor with "Laughing With." Because we try to provide the whole delivery at TWD.

Music Thread For 5/26/09- Mos Def Is Doing More Than Promoting "Next Day Air"

Quick news and notes: Photo from hitfix Beastie Boys are coming back again with a new album . So I won't get flamed for never giving you any American Idol news, that Adam Lambert dude may revive the careers of Queen. There, I said it. Let the "Free T.I" campaign begin . HAHAHA, Scarlett Johansson actually has a music career ? That's like Billy Crystal having a baseball career . Bubba Sparxxx has really fallen on hard times. Thank the Good Lord that it will be "anti-auto -tune." And rapture is felt from me because Mos Def has a new one!
