2/24/08- TWD's Agenda For The Day: The Political News Runthrough

First post in almost two weeks, but hopefully this WILL BE the restart of the entire site.

To start off, I offer another reason as to understand why some people can't stand journalist these days. In this example that you will see just below, I have an expert from Associated Press D.C. writer Liz Sidoti, who is notorious for being a dishonest journalist. And what is so further egregious about this is, she's a notoriously dishonest journalist who still has a well paying job. . In fact, with her track record of playing it up to Republicans . to call her a journalist is really disrespectful to a myriad of others who actually have earned that job description.

Just look at how she mixes Obama's words here (focus primarily on the bold sections):
Now Kovie at Open Left makes this catch:
He said he would re-institute a pay-as-you-go rule that calls for spending reductions to match increases and would shun what he said were the past few years' "casual dishonesty of hiding irresponsible spending with clever accounting tricks." He called the long-term solvency of Social Security "the single most pressing fiscal challenge we face by far" and said reforming health care, including burgeoning entitlement programs, was a huge priority.
What Obama really said:
Now, I want to be very clear: While we are making important progress towards fiscal responsibility this year in this budget, this is just the beginning. In the coming years, we'll be forced to make more tough choices and do much more to address our long-term challenges, from the rising cost of health care that Peter described, which is the single most pressing fiscal challenge we face by far, to the long-term solvency of Social Security.
And yet, has the Associated Press offered a retraction of Sidoti's horrible journalism?

Nope. No wonder why journalism continues to go down over the years.

Hopefully "Sprinkles" Sidoti (as she is known for in that John McCain video for giving him sprinkle donuts last summer) won't misrepresent (to say it nicely) Obama's words tonight when he talks to Congress.

Chuck Schumer has a message for Republican Governors who want to pick what they want from the stimulus package and what they don't want from it (i.e. Bobby Jindal).

And sadly, to follow up on "Sprinkles" Sidot, yet another example of media dishonesty that makes you question this profession. (via the Midday Open Thread at the Daily Kos).

Peace, for now.
