The One Sentence Thread For 9/9/10: Another Valuable Modern Day Life Lesson

If you are a crazy right wing nutcase, you will get a nice phone call from the Obama Administration.

Too Crazy For Even The Crazy Tolerant Associated Press (Updated: The Event of Insanity Is Off)

Image
Yeah, it's still giving this nutcase attention, but it is sort of encouraging to see this : With a fringe Florida pastor’s plan for “Burn a Koran Day” coming under worldwide scrutiny, The Associated Press wire service said Thursday that it would not share any images of a Koran being burned. In a telephone interview, Kathleen Carroll, the executive editor of The A.P., said “there are lots of other similarly offensive images that we choose not to run all the time.” “Most people don’t know that because, of course, we don’t run them,” she said. Mr. Kent’s memo noted that the Koran burning may not take place at all. Should it take place, “The A.P. will not distribute images or audio that specifically show Qurans being burned, and will not provide detailed text descriptions of the burning,” he wrote. Yet.... “With the exception of these specific images and descriptions, we expect to cover the Gainesville event, in all media, placing the actions of this group of about 50 people i...

The Sickos Are Still Out There

Image
And Senator Patty Murray is the latest one to have to endure such insanity : A Washington man was arrested for threatening a U.S. senator over support for health care, prosecutors said Tuesday. Charles Alan Wilson, 64, of Selah, Washington, called Senator Patty Murray's office on multiple occasions leaving expletive laden threatening messages, stating that Senator Murray "had a target on her back" and "I want to (expletive) kill you." Wilson also discussed assisting others in an attempt to kill the senator. His threats were in response to the passage of the Health Care Reform Act. Wilson allegedly made the calls from a telephone line with a 'blocked' phone number, but federally subpoenaed telephone records revealed the calls came from his home phone line. FBI agents were able to further confirm he was the caller. Hopefully Andrew Breitbart won't ask if Murray is making this up.

He Should Apologize Or Resign

Image
Enough is enough. When I saw this tweet from Alan Colmes last night on a thought from Alan Grayson passed to him , it was one of only two resolutions I could see for this ugly situation to end appropriately: With how this shameful story has evolved , the only other thing that should be acceptible from Eric Cantor is to show penitence for his not shocking but, still, very shocking and disturbing actions. Nothing else. It's already deplorable enough that the Sad Obnoxious Party won't take (or are alarmingly slow) any responsibility for their tea partiers dropping coffins, throwing bricks, or leaving chilling phone calls in Democratic officers. But what Cantor (and Jean Schimdt, more on her in a second) did by trying to join his party in the "victim circle", and burden America with another false equivalency nonsense for the media to play with is too much to take. It is highly dangerous what Cantor and his press office are continuing to do by now changing...

The Straight Jacket Award For 3/26/10: Sickos

Image
These people really are just sickening : Unbelivable sickening:

Eric Cantor Shouldn't Show His Face Ever Again

He really shouldn't after this: That would be only true if we have a common sense society in America. Sadly, we don't: Eric Cantor, the second-ranking House Republican, claimed earlier today that his office had been the target of a politically motivated shooting. If you thought Cantor's claim seemed reminiscent of the the bogus "an Obama supporter carved a backwards 'B' into my face" story from the 2008 campaign, you were right. According to AP, the Richmond Police Department now says the bullet that hit an office in the building where he has a campaign office was fired randomly. Thankfully, the only thing that would be a great answer to Cantor shameful, despicable actions of making this another political carnival is for Cantor to resign. And one Alan Grayson is reportedly calling on him to do so.

Add Weiner To The List Of Dem Targets

Image
Though he didn't get a brick through at his office, this is still so very chilling : Law enforcement officials say a package with white powder was sent to Congressman Weiner's Queens office today. A preliminary review shows the letter in part complained about the historic health care legislation passed by Congress this week, according to the source. NYPD and FBI spokesman are only confirming that they are responding to the scene. The package sent to Weiner's office may be the latest in a series of threats directed against Democratic Congress members who voted to overhaul the U.S. health care system. I think it's becoming quite time when President Obama may need to address this situation.

The 1st Thread For 3/25/10: This Continues To Get Uglier

Image
And Scarier. Plus, just to make sure you definitely know, they are doing it : According to Politco.com, the coffin was left on Carnahan’s lawn after a prayer service held by the local Tea Party organization .

Jaw.........On The Floor

And not in a good way : Nothing but terrorists. Nothing but .

The Poignant For 3/24/10: The Painful Lesson Bart Stupak Learned This Week

12 days ago, Bart Stupak had enough of the left calling him out for his mendacity or poor reading comprehension skills. If you forgot already what he said to the National Review nutplace site (because it's easy wanting to forget whatever Stupak says), he explained how those mean old lefties like the Daily Kos and Rachel Madddow were "stepping it up on him" on pushing back his fantasy interpretation of the Senate health reform bill. "This has reached a really unhealthy stage" is what the Michigan Congressman uttered that day, almost a fortnight ago. If you were a casual, ardent CNN watching follower of politics in this nation, you would have thought Stupak was basically getting harassed by a bunch of unhinged, awful people. Fast forward all the way to today, and Stupak (along with his family probably) is now faced with this from another set of people totally opposite from before: Truly amazing, isn't it? If the left made Stupak feel that current t...

Straight Jacket Award For 3/23/10: Domestic Terrorists...........That Some Still Won't Call Terrorists

Image
Sadly not surprising, but utterly disturbing and scary: Vandals have struck the Tuscon office of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), the Monroe County Democratic Committee headquarters in upstate New York, Rep. Louise Slaughter’s (D-NY) Niagara Falls office, the Knox County Democratic headquarters in Ohio, and the Sedgwick County Democratic Party headquarters in Wichita, KS. The local Rochester ABC affiliate now has more information on the upstate NY vandalism, including an assassination threat against the children of lawmakers who voted for health reform: No one was inside when the brick was hurled through the Democratic Patry Headquarters on University Avenue. Attached was a note quoting conservative Barry Goldwater: “Exremism [sic] in defense of liberty is no vice”. [...] [Rep. Louise] Slaughter has been at the center of the push for reform. Last Thursday she received a chilling recorded message at her campaign office. “Assassinate is the word they used…toward the children of la...

The Straight Jacket Award Of The Day For 2/22/10: In The Mind Of Steve King, The IRS Almost Got What They Deserve

Image
This should be denounced by someone in the Republican Party pronto (though I don't expect it to happen anytime soon). Because it's more than Steve King just being the absolute lunatic he is : Not only is King basically excusing the now dead Joseph Stack for his insane actions last Thursday, but he is also attacking the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with no thought of caution at his mind. The calls for getting rid of the IRS and reconciling with Stack's motives from this man is plenty chilling stuff. King's comment is so pernicious and harmful that it may have already won the Straight Jacket Award for 2010 in just February. It will be a top contender at year's end at the very least. Normally it is worth a laugh when someone wins the Straight Jacket Award. But for today, the award is given out to a beyond frightening moment.

This Will Not Go Away For A While

Image
And with reports like these for ABC , It just will continue to grow. And more anti-Muslim hysteria will build up because of it .

The Social Protocol For 10/1/09: Just A Juvenile

Image
The nutcase that put up that assassination poll on Obama. Just a kid. As many of our commenters speculated, fortunately, there was not. The Secret Service has since been able to identify the person responsible, and is it turns out, it was a juvenile. According to the AP, the Secret Service met with the child and his parents, determined the poll was nothing more than a prank, and will ultimately not file charges. Now a kid nowadays can range from someone who is, say, 8 years old, to one that is, well, 17. Either way, no rational kid any age would do that. And really, was it just a joke, or was that a coverup for real anger? Who knows except that kid and his family.

The Social Protocol For 9/28/09: Embarrassing

Image
Um, facebook, this was up for a while (click on to see the madness): Would be a good time to be a little faster next time taking loon stuff like that down. And oh, delete that persons page.......forever. Update : Greg Sargent is reporting that the Secret Service told Facebook to take down that poll. Betting this won't be in there movie .

TWD Exclusive For 9/24/09: Media Forgets Kids Were Being Indoctrinated To Praise Bush!

It's like the term "research" doesn't exist to those idiots. At all . Oh, and there's more creepiness here: Now speaking , as a Christian here speaking, this is unbelievably embarrassing . It may contribute to some non-Christians (or non-religious individuals) potentially hate all Christians more without knowing the crucial difference that all Christians, just like all people, aren't the same. That second video is literally like a Crusade cult training camp. And yet, this was really no where to be found on Fudge's website and all the right-wing loons when this was going down. And it won't come on Dreck Beck's show either now, will it? I highly doubt it. Those videos are frightening, especially to this Christian here. And I wonder how these children are today after all that has transpired in there lives over the course of short time. But back to the focus here. The right-wing and all other middle loons are screaming how disturbing that Obama video...

John Hagee Has Nothing On This Guy

There's another problem beyond just these atrocities of human beings given a chance to spew their dangerous insanity. "A sentiment that not everyone agrees with." I think even more disturbing than these lunatic, pestilent people is the fact that this newscast in Arizona 15 gives balance, BALANCE, to the story. Instead of discrediting and not giving a damn iota about these nuts, it is reported like a regular story. Pretty pathetic and sad.....Journalism in this country rolls in its grave again.

TPM Exclusive: Who Needs Satan When You Have A Pastor Like This

Image
How Christian like this pastor is Chris Broughton, the man who brought an assault rifle and a handgun to the Obama event in Arizona last week, attended a fiery anti-Obama sermon the day before the event, in which Pastor Steven Anderson said he was going to "pray for Barack Obama to die and go to hell", Anderson confirmed to TPMmuckraker today. The sermon, which was titled "Why I Hate Barack Obama" and also contained virulent anti-gay themes, continued: Yup, TD Jakes has nothing on this guy. As a Christian here, it is a shame that people even attend this man's church. But when you have crazies out there, they will do their damnest to embarrass anybody, especially the name of Christianity. And especially anything rational.

Compliment Of The Highest Order

Image
It seems almost a daily given that Greg Sargent writes a post at his Plumline blog that you find so unbelievably ridiculous that it has to be made up. (Un) Luckily though, in this political reality that we live in, the ridiculous is virtually a main part of the current events of our times. At a health care town hall thrown by little known Republican House member Wally Herger in Redding, California this past weekend (Friday to be exact), read this if you may . As a staunch advocate of no public option (what a surprise indeed), Rep. Herger was certainly receiving accolades from the heavily partisan crowd of skeptical government viewpoints in the town hall. So extreme were these people that the town hall included this fascinating moment that the local paper includes (once again, through via Sargent's post). Herger said the federal government does have a limited role to play in health care noting, “We do lots of things that are not in the Constitution.” “There are things we can do wit...

A View From Europe On The U.S: Looks Like Civil War Is Brewing

Image
Photo from AP's Jack Krutz A perspective you just need to read : The photo of a man carrying an assault rifle to a health care reform protest in Arizona was jarring. It smacked of images from the truly oppressive cultures. It's the type of picture that usually accompanies a story on people getting beaten for demonstrating. The person is usually described as part of a 'citizen militia' or shadowy 'security force'. In Iran, it's the Basij. Russia has the Nashi. Gaza, Hamas. (America, the NRA?) Everywhere, it seems these people with the gun are more ready to debate the philosophical purity of their cause, rather than any practical reason for bringing a gun to a public political event. (Perhaps they thought someone might bring a knife?) What type of person thinks their argument is better made if holding a gun? A dangerous one that will cause a potential start of bloodshed for this country. Thank God it hasn't happened so far. And hopefully, it won't hap...
