Music Thread For 8/19/10: The Collaboration Of A Lifetime

Image
Your lifetime . I sure do hope Raekwon is getting good money for this : Ye and Bieber corresponded back and forth on Wednesday, before the rapper invited the young singer to appear on a track. He wrote, "I'm honored that you like my Music @JustinBieber!!! You gotta hear the album. Maybe we can do something together. Me, You, and Raekwon." Bieber responded, "Me, u, and the chef 2gether on a song = EPIC. Might sound crazy 2 u but even having this convo is a living dream. Thanks." Because the flack he's catching for even being apart of this is really high today. Thank goodness today is a day I don't have to hear anything about Foxy Brown or her brother being in trouble. Same too for DMX. Erykah Badu gets probation . For all you Kate Perry fans, an interview for her in the NY Times to continue the hype for her second album . And Norah Jones is one of the realest for a reason, other than being born from Brooklyn !

Music Thread #1 For 8/9/10 (Final Edition): The Runthrough

Andre 3 Stacks is back. I repeat, Andre 3000 stacks is back!!!! Justin Bieber gets hit buy a bottle.......but this happened all the week in December and didn't get out until now ? I guess news doesn't travel as fast as it normally does nowadays : Why did Erykah have to have this clown in the remix video....Sigh I already have low expectations for the second video, if there is even a "To Be Continued." I and many others have been burned by that one before. Nelly is still big enough to cause controversy ? Indeed so. Talib and Hi Tek always knew Kanye was the man even before Jay and Dame really did: The comeback of the year in rap is looking to clearly be Camron . But I still say the "Speakin Tungs" video is yet another dreadful effort at visual concepts. The video could have easily be easily in the club and entertaining, but instead is just a lazy piece of crap:

TWD Saturday Song Of The Week For 4/3/10: Erykah Badu- "Window Seat" (2010)

It wasn't even a question, as this Saturday's song of the week is unamiously Erykah Badu's "Window Seat."

Music Thread #2 For 4/2/10: All That Complaining For Basically Nothing

Image
After all that complaining about Erykah Badu possibly facing a year in jail for being naked and all in Dallas for her "Window Seat" video, she got.... The Dallas Police Department is issuing Erykah Badu a citation after someone complained about her stripping naked on the streets of downtown Dallas. The Dallas police said they had no plans to file charges against the singer unless someone complained. Now, a citation will be mailed to Badu. She faces a maximum fine of $500 and can either pay the fine or fight the citation in court. ....Yup, just that.....just that. But hey, it gives her more deserved hyped and attention for New Amerykah 2!

Music Thread #1 For 3/30/10: Big Day In Releases Today

Image
You could say that today is arguably the first big multiple release day of the year, as we all know the two biggest releases. But here are the other notable ones . In stores: There are a bunch of big names on tomorrow's new release schedule: Erykah Badu, Usher and Alan Jackson lead the way, while "Wu Massacre" -- a Wu-Tang Clan faction featuring Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Raekwon -- also drops. Veteran Bay Area rapper E-40 does the double album, separate releases thing with "Revenue Retrievin: Day Shift" and "Revenue Retrievin: Night Shift." And on the indie-pop tip, there's "I Will Be" by Dum Dum Girls and the essential "Black Tambourine" collection. And there you go.

The Sleep Time and Rise "n" Shine Thread For 3/29-30/10: Much Ado About Badu In Big D (Updated)

Image
Earlier today in the Music Wakeup Call, we showed Erykah Badu's terrific new video "Window Seat." And now some people in Dallas, the city where the video was shot, are not very happy with her decision to be naked at video's end in front of City Hall : Earlier this morning, Pete posted the evidence to DC9: Erykah Badu's "Window Seat" video , the latest informercial for New Amerykah Part Two: The Return of the Ankh, in stores tomorrow. Since its release in the wee small hours Saturday morning, the video -- filmed entirely in Dealey Plaza in one take on March 17 -- has become the subject of much controversy, not only because of where it was shot, but because of Erykah's decision to take it off take it all off ( Matt & Kim-style ) in front of Grassy Knoll bystanders on her way to the X-marks-the-spot where John Kennedy was shot to death in November '63. Then, in the end, there's a shout-out to The Organization Man himself, as the word ...

Music Thread For 2/25/10: More Please

Anything that gets the middleman out of the artists' way is a great thing : We recently looked at an example of Twitter collaboration in the music world, but this may be the first case wherein the micro-blogging network was used for mainstream sample clearance. Pitchfork reports on an exchange initiated by Erykah Badu on Twitter, seeking last-minute clearance for a sample from the Wings song “Arrow Through Me.” Looking to connect with Paul McCartney, she appealed to anyone who might help connect her to him or a closer contact in the chain. Following the stream of tweets, it looks like Badu got a hookup to Lenny Kravitz, who knows McCartney’s daughter Stella, who then connected her to Paul. He approved the sample clearance and she thanked her “Twitter fam” for making the clearance come together. Now if they can get the first dubs on royalties for their albums, then thing swill really change. But this is a nice start.

Music Thread #1 For 2/1/10: The Notable New Tracks

Image
I said that Stephen Colbert was the biggest winner for the Grammy's last night (even though I had no clue that he was actually hosting the travesty of an event it is), but the real winner of this all is this now star individual: And what do you know? D'Angelo has a new song out, called " 1,000 Deaths ". Let's just say that it takes a while to even have a clue what the hell is going on this song. The same could be said of this Erykah Badu song featuring Lil Wayne called " Jump In The Air. " Clarity is hard to find in what hopefully will be a throwing track. DJ Khaled feat Young Jeezy, Piles, and Rick Ross with " Put Your Hands Up ", through it's produced by the Runners. It's really for the South, if you couldn't tell. Nothing special, nothing new. Joe Budden " Downfall ". It is another song that goes on....and on....and on from him. For more new tracks (though just Rap and R&B related), you can go here .
