How dare Abramson asked for the same pay as her male predecessor Bill Keller? That what was clearly expressed in the thoughts of Arthur Sulzberger, the paper's publisher and proud member of the powerful white male union still presiding over our gender pay gap ethos. You can understand if the pension wasn't the same as Keller had, as the size of many workers' pensions (or if they even qualify for a pension in the first place) is dependent upon years spent at a profession. The New York Times has no problem marketing this book You have to love their continued persistence to great journalism integrity and not succumbing to shady advertising ruining their ethics. Especially in regards to promoting the book of one of the war criminals who certainly used their article to go into the illegal war that we need know of. What would Judith Miller think if they did?

Federal authorities have decided to indict Roger Clemens on charges of making false statements to Congress about his use of performance-enhancing drugs, according to two people briefed on the matter. The indictment comes nearly two and half years after Clemens and his former trainer Brian McNamee testified under oath at a hearing before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, directly contradicting each other about whether Clemens had used the banned substances. It truly is amazing how we have time to indict Clemens on steroids by can't find the millisecond to get our powerful government and corporate crooks.

Real dumb : Phil Corbett, the latest standards editor at the Times (maybe the greatest job in the world?), has issued a proclamation! Yesterday, the following memo went out, asking writers to abstain from the invented past-tense and other weird iterations of the magical noun-verb "Twitter." His case isn't terrible, actually—and he offers this terrifying vision: "Someday, 'tweet' may be as common as 'e-mail.'" Oh dear. Well, read for yourself and decide. It makes no sense whatsoever to make even a fuss about this. There are many analysis one can draw from this, but to me, this just makes the New York Times look more old, scruffy, and elitist. The program mirrors one carried out in the spring of 2008, when the paper erased 100 positions in its newsroom, though other jobs were created, so the net reduction was smaller. Tisk Tisk Tisk The NYT has deleted from an online gallery photos it had published on Sunday in its Magazine by Edgar Martins, images of abandoned real estate projects. Charges have surfaced that the images were digitally altered. We are checking on this with the Times. A blogger, who spotted the photos at Metafilter, claims to have tipped them off. The Times' brief notice reads: "The pictures in this feature were removed after questions were raised about whether they had been digitally altered." More later.
