The Early Packages For 8/4/10: Ken Buck Represents Them All

Image
I don't know why anybody would be shocked and appalled at what Ken Buck said by now. It's how they all insanely think: Stewart has another field day, reacting to the racist bringing up altering the 14th Amendment: The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon - Thurs 11p / 10c Born in the U.S.A. www.thedailyshow.com Daily Show Full Episodes Political Humor Tea Party I have a hunch, but I guess the next Tea Party march in your local area won't include a march about the 14th Amendment. In the Week before Social Security's 75th Birthday, Democrats in the House, including the Blue Dogs even, are defending the program big time . And it's President Obama's 49th Birthday, so look at how "classy" Michael Steele's lead trainwreck was in their greetings today . Early Packages.

The Break #2 For 5/11/10: The One Time Audit Bill Is Passed, But Grayson-Paul Version Falls

Image
Despite it being just one audit, and it going back to only 2007 (good centrist protection policy), the audit of the Fed has been pass through the House of Lord, I mean, the Senate, by a rousing 96-0 vote. Comprehensive across the board bi-partisanship that will make the White House and David Broder smile, as Bernie Sanders tampered down amendment goes through. But the bi-partisanship didn't extend to an even stronger version of Grayson-Paul's version through the David "Diaper Man" Vitter's window dressing amendment, trying to steal the shine of Grayson and Paul. So him not getting credit for that is the only saving grace of not passing something that should have been passed. And get this key tidbit from the invaluable David Dayen on how scared Blanche Lincoln is right now of Bill Halter : …The amendment passes 96-0. Having that many Senate votes for this level of transparency from the Fed will be a powerful symbol that something’s rotten at the central ba...

Yesterday Leftovers For 4/23/10: What Else Won't They Do?

Image
Gosh these people are so sickening : In case you didn’t think that Republicans have a strategy of delaying and obstructing everything, consider this story : Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) took to the Senate floor on Thursday to blast Republicans for blocking confirmation of nominees who were actually confirmed earlier in the day. The first-term senator castigated anonymous holds on five U.S. Attorney nominees, five U.S. Marshal nominees, and the nominee to be deputy director of National Drug Policy Control. A unanimous consent motion an hour earlier by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, had the effect of confirming those nominees, though. “A lot of states where the people’s business is not getting done because those nominees haven’t been put in place,” Shaheen said. “And the sad thing is the people who have these folks on hold are trying to get back at somebody in government, but the people who are suffering are the constituents in those ...

People Struggling With College Loans, Meet One Jamie Gorelick

Image
Some of you today may have read how Sallie Mae is planning to stop President Obama's Student Loans "Get the middle man" out ambitious plans. Well, meet the one leading Sallie Mae's efforts in trying to accomplished that really shameful action. Her name is Jamie Gorelick. Now, there maybe some of you that know of this lady's history since being the Clinton Administration's Deputy Attorney General and appointee for Tom Daschle's Commissioner for of the 9/11 attacks. I am in the crowd of those who would have said "Who" if you mentioned her name to me this morning. And for those still not privy to any information on Gorelick, this individual has a rap sheet that resembles a cross between Carly Fiorina and a Citibank executive. Her time at Fannie Mae sure was something that should make her eligible for white and black stripes, if you know what I mean. Even though she had no previous training nor experience in finance, Gorelick was appointed...

The Daily Open Thread #2 For 12/17/09: Two Of My Favorite Moments Of The Day

First, everyone's most favorite moment of the day: May Jay Rockefeller proceed to tell Al Franken "to grow up" after this. I sure knew McCain did. And Lieberman may now demand that Al Franken not be able to vote on health care after that one. Second, and almost as good, was how Ms. Jane handled her good old pal and favorite snakeman, Lanny Davis. Oh was it lovely too. Now Davis tries to bring up Jane's past with that "blackface" thing in 06 for Lieberman, which was a mistake in the past that she has admitted to plenty of times. That's over. But Davis as always is a shill, a liar, and wouldn't admit how he was speaking for the drug companies. And boy, it was great to see Jane, and Ed, pin him on that. More to come everyone.

Health Care Reform Chronicles Thread #1 For 12/10/09: The Runthrough

First, NYCEVE is at a free health clinic in Kansas City. It is a deep : Here is live coverage of that Health Care Clinic: Visit msnbc.com for breaking news , world news , and news about the economy Jew Lewison has written something that is probably the realest post today that can be made about the entire process as a whole: I tend to doubt there's any chance of this happening, but I'm thinking it would be smart for President Obama to concede that the Senate health care bill has serious flaws, even though on balance he believes it is a step forward on health care reform. The basic reason is simple: it's the truth, and that's something the public appreciates from its leaders Instead, the only thing you'll here though is "This bill isn't perfect, but it's a good start" or something along those lines. Nancy Pelosi softens her stand on the public option , and that will make fierce House progressives not happy. Apparently, Harry Reid sent more that one t...

The Sleep Time/Rise "n" Shine Thread For 10/19-20/09: Firedog Forever!

Image
This specific TSTRNS thread is dedicated to one Jane Hamsher, and her dog Kobe who passed away : Kobe is the one on the left, and though I never asked her how many dogs she has or how many she owned, Jane is clearly a dog lover who went on to knit with her homie from high school to make something in remembrance of Kobe . Loved ya Jane, and so definitely did Kobe. The last and first mail Try giving this study information to a lot in this country who have no pensions anymore, and see how they feel. It probably won't be pretty at all. But speaking of pretty and happy, the recession is not hurting Apple. No, it really, really isn't . With stories like these , no wonder Boing Boing is a very popular blog. Your useless Carrie Perjean news, just one click away ! I guess no more love for the blogger template then ? Sometimes the Internet can just be one scary place with a bad ending . When the college team outdraws the pro team in the pro team's stadium, that's embarrassing....

The Akward Gray Area Of Anonymous Sources Again

Image
Today, John Harwood has felt some heat for those on "Rational online" websites after the White House pushed back on that idiot anonymous advisor who slammed bloggers on this weekend. Now Harwood has told FDL's creator that the advisor was indeed an inside source and not an outsider. I asked Harwood to clarify. He confirmed that the quote came from “an Obama adviser.” He did say that the comments weren’t specifically directed at “the LGBT community or the marchers,” but “referred more broadly to those grumbling on the left about an array of issues including the war in Afghanistan and health care and Guantanamo.” Jane then adds her own two cents This is what happens when journalists allow sources to take cheap shots from behind the cloak of anonymity granted for no good reason. The source doesn’t have to own it if it backfires, and the journalist gets stuck with the reputation for sloppy and erroneous reporting if they decide to dump it on you. Which is exactly what’s ...

10/7/09: TWD's Agenda For The Day- Third Way For The Corporate As Always

Image
One of the real reporters on health care has been FDL's Jon Walker. His reporting and analysis has been immense in this whole thing, and it is a testament to Jane Hamsher again with how she finds these people and how they provide the "on the hill" insider journalism that the corporate media just wouldn't want to give you. Again, Walker displays the BS ways of Third Way, and their status quo, keep the power mentality to screw all of America and real change. Just look all how they basically follow AHIP's talking points/wants and needs: No, their suggestions are straight from the health insurance industry: This policy memo offers four ideas for maintaining a robust coverage requirement while minimizing its burden on the middle class: • Option 1: Instead of assessing a penalty, eliminate or reduce tax breaks for people who don’t buy insurance • Option 2: Allow young people to pay lower premiums • Option 3: Ease the minimum benefit requirement • Option 4: Allow more p...

Firedoglake's Publisher: White House Values Bill "Win" Over

Image
Firedoglake publisher Jane Hamsher just mentioned probably the most telling thing of this whole debate in her latest post. This is important for you to look at right here. But there is an even bigger problem: Davies, the North Carolina speech therapist, said she attended a recent organizational meeting but left "without any clear script or anything to do." Organizing for America "hasn't contacted me with a really clear mission," Davies said. "If they came to my door and said, 'Here are the 10 things we want you to do,' then I'd probably do it." One complication is that activists are being asked to sell an evolving plan; even Obama hasn't committed to details. And Jane adds this: The teabaggers know what they stand for. The White House, in its desire to take credit for whatever passes and call it a "win," has remained deliberately vague. Nobody wants to walk into the right wing meat grinder with a bunch of crazies over an i...

8/3/09- TWD's Agenda For The Day: Now It Goes on The Road

Image
If it already wasn't on the road, health care debate is now on the road. The House is in recess, and the Senate soon will be after they handle some business and vote on Sotomayor (I think on Tuesday) . And already, the hits, attacks, realness, and craziness of this debate is going down now on the road . If you want to know why members of Congress don't want to take the Pledge to vote down a bill that doesn't have a strong public plan, Mazie Hirono finally says it out loud : Ultimately, Hirono said she was a progressive who firmly believes in the public option, but that she was also someone who counted votes and that the White House would be pressuring them to make a deal. The stakes grow each and every day.

Rudy Giuliani Is Still A Jerk. Not A Surprise

The most arrogant mayor ever says another brainless and insensitive thing: (thanks for the video to Firedoglake )

The Daily Open Thread For 7/17/09: Why Is A U.S. Seantor Scared Of The People She Represents?

Because she's knows that someone is on to her lobbyist loving ways. TRONN (The Rational Online News Network) legend Jane Hamsher , in her fight for meaningful health care reform can happen, has put the fear in her Senator, Diane Feinstein, so much that she is barred from meeting with her or even her staffers. Just watch (as she is accompanied by the wonderful NYCeve ). More to come indeed.

Marcy Wheeler Tells The Honest Truth, And Her Legend Grows

One of the best journalists in the country gives a classic month to us all Lovely.

The Daily Open Thread #2 For 7/9/09: Jane Hamsher Is A Certified "G"

Firedoglake's one and only Jane Hamsher delivered a smackdown and "Woodshed 101" lesson to clueless Jill Bandes of Townhall.com. You don't mess when Jane on this issue........and you don't mess with Jane at all.

I Love You Guys And All But............

FDL blogmistress and TPMCreator, this ad gets in the way sometimes.

While TWD Was Silent........This Has Been Happening on TRONN (UPDATED with correction from Kagro X)

Image
Thanks to Jed, here's video of the authorities confirming that James von Bunn had an illegal gun. The NRA, of course, has no comment on this, although no one asked them, to be fair: Crooks and Liars has video of the WHO saying the swine flu is a "pandemic." Jane Hamsher over at her site Firedoglake says that Rahm Emmanuel is forcing pork in the conference report titled Cash for Clunkers. Now to make sure things are straight instead of doing Campbell Brown like journalism, Obama never said that pork barrel spending would all be gone. He said that wasteful projects would be cut. But we'll see, and it appears so, that the pork Emmanuel is pushing is wasteful. David Waldman reports that Joe "Smug" Lieberman got his wish. His amendment stays thanks to some in the House. UPDATED : David has corrected me, the Lieberman amendment is still OUT. Media Matters makes Newt Gingrich look stupid again. Also, they show that sometimes, Joe isn't as dumb as he thinks. We...

6/9/09- TWD's Agenda For The Day: No No, "We Told You"

Image
Crazy how memos get started by the Fudge Report. Yesterday, I highlighted this after he placed this on his junk of a website previewing the interview Sean Insanity was going to have with Alaska's wonderful governor: And of course, his "family" over at the Fixed Propaganda channel hyped up the interview: Firedoglake endured editing the highlights of her interview with Insanity And you think the next headline would come from the Trash that is the Murdoch's Post. But it came from the New York Daily News, further showing how the paper is almost no better in being a failure to royal journalism as well. No, "We told you" that the outlet for her to comeback wouldn't be hard. And we'll tell you more later.

The Sleep Time and Rise "n" Shine Thread for 5/21-22/09: The Rational Online News Network and Telvin Campbell

Image
Via the terrific Greg Sargent , here's the terrific Marcy Wheeler (research her after you view this) of Firedoglake delivering a smackdown on the ineptly named Fackcheck.org in regards to their poor job in chronicling Nancy Pelosi-Porter Goss- CIA "chronicles." If you haven't checked this brilliant blog, please do so after you check this link . Yes, it may look like nothing, and its posts are about as short as those guys in the upcoming "Hangover" movie winning a fight against Mike Tyson (or almost about anybody). But it is well worth it. And speaking of world class bloggers, here's the incomparable Meteor Blades once again refusing to submit to President Obama's "Let's look forward and not look back" malarky. Certainly, if one trolls around enough, there can be found a few people who "would almost never put national security over transparency," just as Obama says. But how very few they are. And, with all due respect to the...

The Rational Online News Network For 1/6/09

Image
A look around our friends at these others sites that consist of The Rational Online News Network, and some of their content on this day. At TPM , their always fabulous 100 seconds: Also (and thankfully), Jed Bush will not run for the Senate in Florida. At Think Progress , they have video this morning of The Shurb saying that Donald Rumsfield did an "outstanding job" Think Progress also has several other goodies to read from today: from Levi Johnston, the father of Bristol Palin's baby, quitting the job that Sarah Palin corruptly help him get to the lamest duck President even using taxpayer's dollars for his new security gate in his soon to be new Dallas home. At Firedoglake , Jane Hamsher gets a smile out of some of the "establishment" not pleased about Obama picking Leon Panetta for CIA, saying that the "intellectual left" has played a part in Obama choosing ideology over competence for the first time, as Chuck Todd so ridiculously stated toda...
