The Gravel #1 For 7/8/10: See, Martha Coakley Is Great At Something

DOMA is ruled unconstitutional in Masschusetts : Today, U.S. District Court Judge Joseph L. Tauro ruled that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional with respect to claims brought by seven married same-sex couples and three widowers from Massachusetts. Under the ruling, the plaintiffs are entitled to the same federal spousal benefits and protections as every other married couple. The ruling stems from GLAD’s lawsuit Gill et al v. Office of Personnel Management et al, filed in March 2009. “Today the Court simply affirmed that our country won’t tolerate second-class marriages,” says Mary Bonauto, GLAD’s Civil Rights Project Director, who argued the case. “I’m pleased that Judge Tauro recognized that married same-sex couples and surviving spouses have been seriously harmed by DOMA and that the plaintiffs deserve the same opportunities to care and provide for each other and for their children that other families enjoy. This ruling will make a real differenc...

The Final Poll: Massachusetts Special Election For Senate Seat

Image
It is looking bleak for Coakley right now, as she is not performing strong enough in the places where Brown is overperforming. Early numbers seem to indicate that Brown could win this by possibly 5 percentage points. Update 1 : 60% of the vote in....52.8% to 46.2%, looking ugly for Coakley right now. Update 2 : 65% of the vote in....Brown still up by 7. As Howard Dean said on air, if Boston has already been tallied, then it is over. But if it isn't, this will go down to the wire. Update 3 : Chris Cizilla of the Washington Post is reporting that Coakley has called to concede to Brown. Update 4 : It is over.....Scott Brown can bring his Truck in to DC. He is the Senate in Massachusetts. Update 5 : It is over ......Senator truck nude man is in the Senate. And his press conference was something to behold.

Conflicting Democratic Perspective On Health Reform Passage If Coakley Lose

The health of the health reform bill if Coakley losses tonight has produced a few strong feelings from prominent or renowned Democrats on the fate of health care. To my mind, only Anthony Weiner has been the one to declare the bill's chances of passage "maybe dead" if the Massachusetts Attorney General losses. Everyone else however, from Nancy Pelosi to Alan Grayson, has said that health reform will still pass regardless of tonight's result. Now what type of health reform bill, or model of health reform bill, will pass is a whole different ball game. Weiner said that he would have a hard time passing the Senate bill as the final bill overall. And if he says that, than there is a justified belief that House progressive/liberal figures won't help the push for 218 for a much maligned bill (despite always the tendency of them founding to the pressure of the times). That belief is further raised if the antiturst exemption and national exchanges aren't given...

They Really Are The Same Person

First, the idiot that is Sally Quinn, on "Cosmo Nude" potential Senator . "Scott Brown is 'a hunk" and "posing semi-nude helped him." And she also added "He's really cute." But you thought her vapidness was world class, she is not to be outdone by Reagan's favorite lover outside of his wife. Get a load to this extraordinary moment on the "diverse panel" that was Mo(u)rning Jo(k)e this morning. Peggey Noonan tells us how Brown truly does "look American." Elitist, brain dead, and attention whores. They really are the same person, aren't they?

Obama To Stump For Coakley On Sunday

Image
To give her a final push that should have never been (and yes, that is a link to Politico, Martin broke the story): President Obama will campaign for Massachusetts Senate candidate Martha Coakley on Sunday, POLITICO has learned, a sign that Democrats are deeply worried about her prospects and the party’s 60-seat majority. And yes, it will be in Boston on Sunday after him and the first lady go to church.
