The Saturday Open Thread For 7/11/09: Get Fudgeeey Some Glasses Please

Image
Please, let's do. I wish we could start a fun drive to get him some glasses. Kos' hatemail is highlighting the best he has received , so no new gems, but still, great stuff. This will be on Twitter later, but I will say it now so I won't forget it later: Skype is creepy as hell to me. Tomorrow, I'll explain how, in some improbable fashion, Obama has played this whole thing correctly in regards to the stimulus money. In my opinion only, of course. But that doesn't mean at all TWD is done for the day. Oh no it isn't. At all. There is more to come, including from James (hopefully) his prediction for UFC 100 tonight (because I sure as hell don't know what's going to happen or what is evening happening besides Lesnar being in the WWE before). James' threads are always real, informative, and some of the best reading you'll see in terms of sports on TRON hands down (and to me, in general). Love that dude. And did I mention how much I love this commerci...

Sports Thread#1 for 10/21/08- Where has all the boxing gone?

Image
Will the state of boxing be falling down, like Antonio Tarver in this picture only time will tell (AP Photo/Eric Jamison) Attention all TWD readers, I am looking for a sport. This sport has been around for centuries, and up until the mid-90s was one of the most popular sports in the world. Some of the greatest American figures have come from this sport, but now it is a relative unknown. I was introduced to it as some kind of mythical thing, a sport only real men could do. I can recall nights my father would leave to go with friends to go watch it late at night. I remember the first time I was invited to one of these festive events, and how the sport captivated me with the amount of skill and drama this one event possessed. The way it quieted the men’s debates on who was the greatest ever, and made them watch with wonder and awe on how someone could do this as a living. I remember the unity the room was filled with as friends sat, ate, and discussed amongst friends. The sport that I am...

Sports Thread #1 and #2 Combined for 10/19/08: The Inaugural "Clash of Clashes": Colts-Packers

Image
(Photos from NFL.com) Greg Jennings has proven himself to be as elite of a receiver as Reggie Wayne is so far this season Now, the "Clash of Clashes" Segment, where James and I not only disagree with how the spread of the game will go, but even sometimes the outright winner. In even shorter terms,I think it is a guarantee for me, he thinks it is a guarantee for him. That leads to a "clash", and if it is between us, then it has to be the biggest clash of all the clashes That game is the Colts at the Packers James definitely feels that Indianapolis has finally gotten on track for good after their shellacking they gave Baltimore last week. Peyton Manning finally had his usually normal Hall of Fame day, and the defense of Tony Dungy's side harassed rookie Joe Flacco all day last week. But despite the great job Flacco has done in his first year in the league, the Delaware standout is certainly no Aaron Rodgers at this point. Even with a shoulder problem, and a lit...

Sports Thread #2 for 10/19/08-: Week7, Expect Three More Wins This Week

Image
The Jags helped us get to 6-3; Who will help us improve to 9-3 on the season. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski) On the season for guaranteed picks we sit at a record of 6-3, after going 3-0 last week we look to move forward with our winning ways this week. The format of last week will remain the same with the guaranteed picks being placed in an instant message conversation between Andrew and me. The following picks will have not be based on the spread, but will be who we think will win outright. There will be three games with a brief description on how and why they will win, and the rest will just have who is going to win. Now that we have the rules laid out let’s get started. Pittsburg over CINCINNATI : Cincinnati is an absolute mess. Carson Palmer will miss his second straight week with an elbow injury. The Bengals haven’t figured out how to integrate Ocho Cinco into their offense, and their defense was never that good. Pittsburg without Willie Parker should be able to roll over Cincy wi...

The Talk With "YOU" on 10/16-17/08- When Stuff Happens

Image
Over the last two days, terrible luck and finite timing have prevented me from posting an array of things on this site in the last couple of days. The prime culprit of the limited threads, posts, and usual freshness of this site has been the schoool work which I have to do first , because school is the primary priority at the moment .And it sometimes angers me that foolish, unnecessary distractions have also been just as culpable as not having enough time in order to literally (and consistently) provide the whole delivery . From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely apologize if you have been frustrated or annoyed by this. I surely have, because for the first time since this site has been launched, there was no "daily agenda" set. None whatsoever. I will definitely try to not have that occur again without informing you before time. Remember, this site is still in its incipient stages . With James being the only one that has even done posts besides me for TWD (so far that has...

10/13/08- TWD's Agenda for the Day- Our First Hate Mail (And the Miss of the Year in Soccer)

Image
Photo from Deadspin.com You are going to love this one. We won't mention the guys email address, but this in response on Thursday to our NLCS preview written by James . This is "LMAO" type quality, with how irrational it really is: All I needed to see that showed you were completely biased was when your "objective" review concluded that the "on the eyeball test", that the Dodgers bullpen was better than a Phillies bullpen - the best in baseball with a closer who was only the second man in history to not blow a save all year despite 40-plus saves, and had a staff bullpen ERA that was lower than L.A.s despite playing in a cracker-jack box. But you in your infinite wisdom decided this based upon one game, where Lidge DID get the save and where Lidge got two more uneventful saves in the following games that you conveniently decided not to mention. Based upon this same "eyeball test", I have concluded that you are an idiot. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...
