The 1st Thread/Yesterday's Leftovers For 9/9/10: The Love Of "Looking Forward" Continues With This Administration!

It certainly sure does : A sharply divided federal appeals court on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit involving the Central Intelligence Agency’s practice of seizing terrorism suspects and transferring them to other countries for imprisonment and interrogation. The ruling handed a major victory to the Obama administration in its effort to advance a sweeping view of executive secrecy power This case was based off the ACLU's successful win from a 3-judge ruling from the 9th Circuit against the Obama DOJ trying to preserve the power of the executive branch of government willingly bringing the law in the "all that is holy National Security", a move candidate Obama vehemently criticized the Bush Administration from doing. This disturbing reversal by that same circuit with a full judge lineup by the 6-5 margin continues our dangerous precedent at giving unlimited power to our President without facing the consequences of illegal and immoral practices. To fittingly sum it up, ...

Jail For Them.......Now

Photo from AP's Andres Leighton Because when you are the President of the United States and you know people are innocent, yet you decide to torture them, that is the only sufficient reward : George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld covered up that hundreds of innocent men were sent to the Guantánamo Bay prison camp because they feared that releasing them would harm the push for war in Iraq and the broader War on Terror, according to a new document obtained by The Times. The accusations were made by Lawrence Wilkerson, a top aide to Colin Powell, the former Republican Secretary of State, in a signed declaration to support a lawsuit filed by a Guantánamo detainee. It is the first time that such allegations have been made by a senior member of the Bush Administration. Colonel Wilkerson, who was General Powell’s chief of staff when he ran the State Department, was most critical of Mr Cheney and Mr Rumsfeld. He claimed that the former Vice-President and Defence Secretary kn...

But Who Cares About More Lies About An Illegal War Coming Out

Image
You wouldn't know if all your source of news came from the American television media, but the two month British inquiry into the illegal Iraq war hit another dramatic point today, as Tony Blair took the mic to explain his lies . The statements that Blair made where truly outrageous: In a robust defence of his decision to back war, Mr Blair said Saddam was a "monster and I believe he threatened not just the region but the world." He said Iraqis were now better off and he would take the same decisions again. Yes, the country that you invaded along with The Shrub and his boss Cheney is left better off despite the killing of hundreds of thousands Iraqis and the countless millions that are refugees in that nation. It is a shame that most in America won't have any clue of the crimes there were committed under the last Administration. And though this inquiry won't lead to any prosecution of these war criminals that have taken apart in this questioning, at leas...

Tony Blair's Painful Lies On Iraq Being Revealed

Image
Remember earlier in the week when the British began their independent inquiry into Iraq ? Well, this massive tidbit that few will notice in this country, especially our corporate media, was dropped today about Tony Blair. He bullied his Parliament thanks to his lies about Iraq it appears An explosive secret letter that exposes how Tony Blair lied over the legality of the Iraq War can be revealed. The Chilcot Inquiry into the war will interrogate the former Prime Minister over the devastating 'smoking gun' memo, which warned him in the starkest terms the war was illegal. The Mail on Sunday can disclose that Attorney General Lord Goldsmith wrote the letter to Mr Blair in July 2002 - a full eight months before the war - telling him that deposing Saddam Hussein was a blatant breach of international law. It was intended to make Mr Blair call off the invasion, but he ignored it. Instead, a panicking Mr Blair issued instructions to gag Lord Goldsmith, banned him from attending Cabine...

11/24/09: TWD's Agenda For The Day- Something That You Won't See In America

Photo from Al Jazeera When someone still brags about the United States being the beacon of democracy and transparent government, it would behoove you to point them to the latest example of that belief being a very questionable one (and that's being nice about it). Today over in London , a public inquiry is being conducted by the British population into why on Earth their country was a protagonist in the misery that is the Iraq War. With how the "we must look forward" phrase continues to go in circulations in Washington D.C., our version of what is going on in the UK capital probably won't be taking place at all. One-time senior officials from the foreign and defence ministries will outline Britain's policy towards Baghdad in early 2000, as the five-member committee investigates what lessons can be learned from the US-led war. John Chilcot, the inquiry chairman and a former civil servant, said he was confident of producing a "full and insightful" account ...

What Crimes They Didn't Commit?
