The Tech For 8/16/10: The Lovely Hypocrisy Of AT&T

Image
Loving what Google and their growing bitter rivals Verizon conjured up last week in their secret little deal, those folks at AT&T have decided to chime in their two cents of making sure telecom power remains another example of corporate domination in America. It is definitely the opposite of what Al Franken thinks . Policymakers can help by reallocating more spectrum for CMRS use and, even more importantly, by protecting wireless broadband networks from onerous new net neutrality regulations. The latter is vital to the continued growth of the industry. In order to provide consumers with the high quality wireless broadband services that they demand, wireless carriers must to be able to dynamically manage traffic and operate their networks in an environment free from burdensome, arbitrary and unnecessary regulations. Oh wonderful, another example of corporations hating regulations in your full peripheral. Does their excuse words of "provide the consumer with the high qu...

The Tech For 5/10/10: Apple Stays With Their Love Affair With AT&T With The I-Phone

Corporation global dominance of the day . It was speculative before given the lack of independent confirmation, but now apparently Apple has gone on record to confirm that the original deal signed with AT&T for iPhone exclusivity back in 2007 was a five-year deal. That means at least some legal hoops would need jumping through if we’re ever going to see that oft-rumored Verizon iPhone before 2012. Engadget reports that court documents filed by Apple in a California class-action suit confirm the original AT&T exclusivity deal had a five-year duration. The suit, ongoing since 2007, claims that Apple and AT&T were exerting a monopoly over iPhone service by surreptitiously locking iPhone buyers into renewing contracts with AT&T once their initial two years was up. On the flip side, there are a number of reasons such a contract might be amended or canceled, so it’s not exactly a total given that the iPhone won’t appear on another carrier before 2012. But given the origi...

Saturday Fun Open Thread For 12/12/09: Verizon Is Running Circles Around AT&T

It isn't even close right now, and they are getting under AT&T skin in a big way. This one was fun too: And this one is just terrific: And, as you probably have seen, AT&T's responses are just downright douchy and sucky . There not worth even embedding. Now it maybe hard to see that I'm not taking a side in which is better, though AT&T has played a big part in support warrantless wire tapping for the government to your phone, making my sympathy for them getting ponded by Verizon in these commercials all the more less. But even if you didn't know that, the general consensus is that Verizon is scoring big punching points with these commercials. Fun (And not so fun) stuff : The police in Seattle helped a man steal a totem pole . The year in review for video games from XBox 360 . But we knew there was a black hole all along ! Oh boy for Nick Hogan . 5 things you didn't know about James Cameron ........... unless you are following him all the time. My alu...

The Tech For 8/3/09: AT&T Latest Move With The IPhone

FISA supporters making up for a past mistake Three months after Apple wowed Mac fans with the iPhone 3GS unveiling--and AT&T simultaneously disappointed the same masses because its iPhone users would not be able to take advantage of one of the devices most-touted features, MMS, or multimedia text messaging --AT&T now says it will enable iPhone MMS on September 25. Happiness for I-Phone users, but AT&T and Mac of course have happiness for their own reasons....obviously.
