Music Thread #1 for 6/17/09: Black Eyed Peas Top The Chart for The First Time (Chart Review)

Photo from MTV.com I'm shocked it has never happened before, but congrats to them Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D." bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 304,000 -- the hip-pop act's best sales week ever. It's also the first No. 1 album for the group , which had previously gone as high as No. 2. Its last set, 2005's "Monkey Business," bowed in the runner-up slot with a then-best 291,000. It had the unfortunate luck to come out the same week as Coldplay's "X&Y," which kept the Peas' at bay when it started at No. 1 with 737,000. Believe it or not, "The E.N.D." is only the second top 10 album for the Peas. While everyone else's sales go down, theirs go up. Eminem is platinum, while Dave Matthews band is well on their way. Mos Def knew his numbers were going to be low, which shows you how people don't know "quality" if it gave them a billon dollars right in your face. But I sure hope Pretty Ricky ...

The Dave Matthews band shows that the music download times and the recession hasn't stopped its fans from buying their album. The group is, not surprisingly, number one on the Billboard charts . Dave Matthews Band strikes again with its fifth-consecutive studio album to debut at No. 1 as "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" bows in the penthouse of the Billboard 200 with a whopping 424,000. Better still, it's the fifth-straight studio set from the group to open with a sales week of at least 400,000. The act's last studio set, 2005's "Stand Up," stood tall with 465,000 in its first frame. The band had the third biggest debut of the year, as only Eminem and U2 had higher first week sales. Speaking of Em, he'll likely go platinum next week. Britney's tour is coming to America. North America that is (because we can't leave out our NEIGHBORS TO THE north, though she didn't put our neighbors to the South though on the schedule. The sad stor...
