The Sports Thread #1 For 2/21/14: LeBron Has a Broken Rose (First Version)

Image
The victim of Serge Ibaka reportedly has a broken nose and is a game time decision on Sunday against the Bulls. The preliminary evaluation on James from most said that he had a swollen nose, but looks like he will have to ware a mask for the time in his career again for the rest of the season.

The Miscellaneous Sports Thread #1 For 11/25/13: Derrick Rose is Out For The Season (Final Versions)

Image
Photo from Steve Dykes of USA Today It's the fear that all Chicago Bulls fans have at the moment come to bare, as Derrick Rose is now officially out for the rest of the 2013-14 NBA season. The meniscus tear Rose suffered in his right knee after coming back from his ACL tear in the left knee last season occurred on Friday in the Bulls' loss to the in-form Blazers. It is a devastating blow for him after all that transpired last season and how this happened on his supposedly good knee. Outside of an 6-11 3-point shooting night in giving the Pacers their only loss of the season, Rose was still primarily the same player he was before the knee issues. Still, the Bulls have been bad offensively again, where Luol Deng , Carlos Boozer , and Joakim Noah aren't consistent star men who can carry a team by themselves. With how the Pacers have started along with a certain team in Miami, they were never going to beat both of those teams with him. Other Notable News K...

The Fun Thread For 1/22/13: Real Singers Do Real Things

Image
Because unlike Beyonce, LeBron and DWade do real performances without lipsinging. From the Heat's annual karokee event over the weekend, the #6 sung "Rock With You" and had Wade come on stage to join him in serenading this woman with Shai only major hit, "If I Ever Fail In Love." More from The Whole Delivery later, stay tuned.....

Sports Thread #2 For 7/12/10: The Royal Fraud That Is Dan Gilbert

Image
As Jesse Jackson's "runaway slave" comments get all the attention, it should not lead those who can't stand Jackson for his coutless controversial statements and actions to let Dan Gilbert get off the hook for his insane letter last Thursday once "LeHour Special" left his team. Even worse than Gilbert's immaterial diatribe on paper is the perspective that Gilbert creates to those who don't know anything else about him other than being the Cavaliers owner. He acts like he speaks for the city of Cleveland, and his letter was certainly supported by one sect of people: the people of Cleveland. But sadly, Gilbert has done way worse to the city he is now the proclaimed voice of instead of its now departed (Akron) son. As the man and the legend that is Dave Zirin wrote on Friday, Gilbert's main company has caused more damage to the 216 than LeBron could ever do . Dan Gilbert needs to spare us the moral outrage. Forget about the fact that this is ...

The LeBron Unappreciation Day Thread #3/Sports Thread #3 For 7/8/10: Thankfully, It Is Over

Image
He was going to lose regardless of this decision. Regardless. He felt tight when he said he would go to South Beach, and the pressure of the moment really showed there. The special was pathetic, where when he finally announced the Heat, I did have the disgust that most have generated during the day for him. Initially, I thought it was unfair and ridiculous, those "he has sullied his reputation" quotes from those angry pundits on ESPN in the hours leading up to the decision. But I only would have disagreed with them big time if he had returned to Cleveland. And it turns out he didn't. (By the way, Jim Gray, I continue to have less and less respect for him just like everyone else. His legend of tool continues to grow and grow each and every day.) Now that I think of it, the fact that LeBron was adamant about wanting to win a title after he became more ensconced and loose signified how this was truly a basketball move first and from the heart. LeBron just wants t...

The LeBron Unappreciation Day Thread #2/Sports Thread #2 For 7/8/10: Now The 2nd Most Hated Man In Cleveland Sports Heads To Miami With Wade & Bosh

Art Modell maybe, just maybe, is slightly less hated, even though he still receives most of the curse words.

The LeBron Unappreciation Day Thread #1/Sports Thread #1 For 7/8/10: Now Maury May Have To Get Into This Too

Image
Photo from Getty Images Oh dear : A Washington lawyer has filed a lawsuit in federal court, claiming he is the father of basketball star LeBron James. Leicester Stovell alleges that the athlete and his family have been involved in a cover-up to deny paternity by committing fraud and misrepresentation. In the complaint, filed June 23, Stovell says, "I recently have concluded that a comprehensive, sophisticated and well-funded effort might well have been underway for quite some time, perhaps beginning in its present form as early as when defendant LeBron James was in high school, to frustrate identification of his real father, and that there is a likelihood that the father in question is me." That has gotten so stupid.

Sports Thread #3 For 6/4/10: Danny Ferry Is Gone From Cleveland

Image
Photo from AP Not his fault at all that he finally made the moves. But it surely was not enough for Dan Gilbert* in their quest to keep LeBron : Danny Ferry resigned Friday as general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers after five seasons. Ferry's departure comes two weeks after the club fired coach Mike Brown following the team's second-round loss to the Boston Celtics in the NBA playoffs. The team said assistant GM Chris Grant will take over for Ferry, 43, who was in the final month of his contract. And that is what it is. * Update: Just caught this just now, before the great Peter Rothberg gave me the needed shoutout, and somehow wrote bench gunner Dan Gibson instead of owner Dan Gilbert. Goodness gracious indeed. Properly fixed.

Sports Thread #1 For 5/24/10: Mike Brown Has Been Fired...........Finally

Image
Photo from Jesse D. Garrabrant/NBAE via Getty Images It should have happened before Game 6 with how they played so pathetically in Game 5 . It's unfortunate, but it wasn't surprising, not after the Cavs got run out by the Celtics in the second round, two rounds before they were supposed to be in the Finals. With everything at stake this summer with LeBron James, such an implosion couldn't occur without someone paying the price, and because there's no one left to trade, and no cap room to sign a big-time free agent, this was the last card the Cavaliers had left to play. There is only one question Dan Gilbert, who gave Brown the news Sunday in Detroit -- where Brown was watching his son play in an AAU tournament and where Gilbert lives -- can ask James Monday: Who do you want? Phil Jackson? Larry Brown? Pat Riley? Give me a name and I will try to get them. If Larry Brown comes to the Cavs (because I think Jackson will either stay with the Lakers or retire while Ril...

Sports Thread #1 For 5/14/10: It Starts And Ends With The Coaching

It's really facile and lazy for one to say "LeBron James choked again, LeBron James showed that he is overrated and will never be Jordan" comments that have certainly emanated from last night's latest and arguably most devastating blow to a Cleveland sports fans psyche. But anybody who has watched the Cavs the last two years, knows the NBA deeply, and isn't on their obsessive "Hate on LeBron just because I will hold him to the Jordan mantle" perspective will know full well that Mike Brown was the reason why the Cavaliers are not even advancing to the East Finals, let alone winning the title like they should have done this season. Now there were several factors causing the Cavaliers to succumb to the pressure and crash out to a Boston team, though fully restored to their championship pedigree best, should not have defeated them in this series. The play of Antawn Jamison, supposedly the #2 that LeBron needed to get over the top, was just simply atr...

Sports Sunday Thread #2 For 4/25/10: 2010 NBA Playoffs, Day 9 Day Session- All About The King & Flash

Image
Photo from NBA.com I still thought before this game that Dwayne Wade was still slightly better than Kevin Durant at this stage, meaning that he was still apart of that Super 3 with Lebron and Kobe. And maybe now for those who believe that Durant is better than Wade, they will think a little differently about that sentiment. Not to be outdone however was "The King." Man, did he put on a display today at the United Center : It's LeBron year folks.

Sports Thread #3 For 2/17/10: Antawn Jamison To The Cavaliers

Image
Give the Cavaliers the title now : Amid reports of a three-way trade between Washington, Cleveland and the Los Angeles Clippers, Wizards forward Antawn Jamison has left the arena right before Washington's game with Minnesota. Washington would reportedly receive Cavs center Zyundras Ilgauskas and a first-round draft choice from Cleveland, along with forward Al Thornton and forward/center Brian Skinner from the Clippers. Jamison left the arena as the game was starting and declined to comment to reporters. After how nutty the Caron Butler for Josh Howard deal was for them, it made perfect sense for the Wizards to just blow up the team instead of insulting Jamison by letting him stay on a sorry team and deny him his first legitimate chance at a ring. But for Cleveland, this was the deal that everyone pointed to that they needed to make after Stephen Jackson was traded to the Warriors to the Bobcats. Jamison is more versatile than Amare Stoudamire and compliments LeBron James b...

Sports Thread #1 For 10/29/09: The Runthrough

Image
Daniel Gibson runs into Chris Bosh, as the Cavs have run into an 0-2 start to their season (Photo from Associated Press) The Cavaliers are really lacking the versatility that is needed for a championship team outside of course of LeBron James. It's only two games, but the Cavaliers haven't looked good for the last 7 of the 8 quarters they have played so far. Mo Williams isn't strong enough of a distributor , Shaq and the rest of the bigs aren't versatile enough to truly execute pick and roll, and here is just no guy right now on that team besides James that you can picture taking over a game deep in the postseason. I picked them to win the title this year, though when them making a move in the mid season though. Because there is no way with this current lineup and roster that they will win the title. The most shocking statistic in the NBA last night for me.......The Warriors rookie Stephen Curry only took one three pointer last night in their 108-107 season opening ...

Sports Thread #2 For 10/7/09: LeBron Wins- Braylon Edwards Is Traded To The Jets

Image
Gregory Shamus/Getty Images The man gets people not even in his own sport traded out of town. But it had of course much more to do with Edwards wearing out his time with the Browns. We know all about the drops last year, but Edwards to me even lose a gear on his speed at some point last year. He just didn't seem to strike fear into defenses at all, and his effort diminished significantly in 2008. Now part of Edwards' rapid decline was (and still is) because of the Browns' irrational obsession, first with Romeo Crennel and now with Eric Mangini, to play Brady Quinn over proven starter Derek Anderson. It wasn't a coincidence on Sunday that the Browns finally play well when Anderson was in the lineup. At all. Simultaneously though, Edwards lost his cutting edge, and his hard hands that plagued him in at Michigan reared their ugly head last year. The off the field stuff were the final straw for him to egress Cleveland, but Edwards' production was of course the main fact...

Sports Thread #1 for 7/22/09: Um, LeBron And Nike, You Wild Out Over This?

Image
Nothing. Really nothing. All that stress over this? OVER THIS? And TMZ stays winning, which makes me think. Did Nike plan this out, since they supposedly had embargoed every video in that building that day? Maybe so. Update: Here's a VASTLY superior version to TMZ crappy video.

Sports Thread #1 for 6/25/09: Shaq & Kobe=Title, Shaq & DWade= Title, Shaq & LeBron= ?

Image
Yes, the "Big Whatever You Want to Call" Him is all around his twitter today talking about his trade to LeBron @ the Cavs. He actually said that he didn't know the trade went down until he saw his Twitter. Funny, but I still don't believe him there. I still believe the Cavs need one more player though, even with Shaq good year last year for the Suns. They need another athletic young big guy to go along with maybe one more confident shooter at the 2 spot. Either way, if Mo Williams becomes a number three option instead of a number two to LeBron, well, the Cavs will be in great shape next year. And maybe "The Big Cavalier" will be that number two option, along with shuttering down Dwight Howard. Either way, it's probably title or bust for coach Mike Brown. Scratch that last sentence. It's title or bust for Brown.

A handshake is just a handshake Is it really that serious? By Riebeil Durley-Petty

As the final seconds slowly ticked off the clock for what had to seem like an eternity the usually exuberant head and shoulders slumped over, dragged down by sullenness. The realization the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise record 66 win season, 39-2 best home record and a phalanx of other personal accolades and accomplishments were abruptly irrelevant and come to an end set in. As the clock read triple zeros, the confetti fell from the ceiling and Orlando Magic players jubilantly jumped and hugged in celebration LeBron James simply walked off the floor, dipping without acknowledging the Eastern Conference champs or answering questions during the post game conference. Over the last few days Bron actions have caused mass hysteria and vehement emotions from a wide spectrum. Thousands of hoop fans have called in voicing their opinions on radio talk shows, the majority of which flamed him and analysts have demonized Bron ranging from ESPN to Fox Sports. For starters, if you put on a prepostero...

Sports Thread #1 and The One Sentence Thread for 6/3/09:LeBron Must Be The Only One iN history To not Have Sportsmanship

(Thanks to sometimes contributing writers James Eddy and Riebeil "Sheed" Durly-Petty, who will probably have more on this later) LeBron James must be the only one who doesn't have sportsmanship, because Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, and everyone else in the history of sports shook their opponents hands all the time, DIDN'T THEY? (That's no excuse for what LeBron did, but I, like many others, are just saying)
