The One Sentence Thread For 10/26/09: Mean Old Partisan

Harry Reid is a big ultra-partisan meanie after all for hurting Olympia Snowe's feelings.

President/Empress Snowe, Shove It!

Image
"She is a good Senator, but I'm disappointed that she has been frightened on a public option." "Hopefully Senator Snowe will see the wisdom of a public option." Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAhahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You hear that Senator Snowe???? Your BS FAILS. No matter how hard you (and yes, you too "Trigger Man" Emmanuel) tried to push the Trigger idea down people's throats, no one RATIONAL wants this corporate give away for your corporate masters. If gave Harry Reid of all people spine, then it says how much your ability to deceive the American people isn't even good to pull a fast one to make him cave to you and your horrendous thought of a dishonest idea. The nation DOES NOT want your, Wellpoint, Cigna, BlueCross and all the rest of your immoral cronies damn trigger. Of course the fight is only going to get more fierce from here. And celebrat...

Hearing opt-outs ......shame thought that employee mandate somehow was deemed too rational to take out though . But he will also put it on the floor for a vote . Oh my.

Maine Knows Something Obama Doesn't Know About Snowe

That he's the president and Snowe is the Senator Simple as that......I wish it was for the White House instead of making this complicated.

I Wish These Sources Revealed Themselves (Updated)

And I wish Obama would say or either say you want the Senate bill coming to the floor to have a public option or not : "They're skeptical of opt out and are generally deferential to the Snowe strategy that involves the trigger," said one source close to negotiations between the Senate and the White House. "they're certainly not calming moderate's concerns on opt out." It all wouldn't be the case if they just showed courage and say "If they REALLY want it or not." It's great that you support it all , but do you really want the public option at day's end president Obama? Do you? And these sources, again, make the well respected great outlets like TPM look as knee-jerky as the idiot ones like Politico look the same. This source said this, so we'll report it! Knee-jerk reactions that would not be happening at all if Obama just came out and said whether he wants it or not. Update : Marc Ambinder gets a White House official on record ...

Technically Irrelevant People Are Making Irrelevant News Today

Let's celebrate the relevancy of the irrelevant : In a huddle with reporters moments ago, I asked Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) for her thoughts on a public option compromise that would allow states to opt out of a national government insurance program, and her answer could slow down the proposal's considerable momentum . "I don't support that," Snowe said. It gets better ! I love when the irrelevant drive the news.

After thinking it was completely dead a few weeks ago, our favorite "T" word pushed by President/Empress Snowe has come back to life. Like the public option, it has (unwelcoming) had its Lazarus moment too, thanks to "Trigger Man" Emmanuel and his fellow "out of touch" willing accomplice. If you need more proof of how Gosh Awful the Trigger would be in conjunction with the many that have been said as time has pasted, just take a flashback to 6 years ago. And think of the phrase "Medicare Part D." Snowe, shockingly, lied about that with her own revisionist history yesterday morning on CNN's pathetic fest of an AM show. She pulled a clear fast one on Kieran Chetry, another network anchor who is dreadful at doing any sort of political coverage, about how the Trigger was never intended/needed for Medicare Part D. Now, before you see the mendacity displayed by the "de facto head of State", get this from BuzzFlash.com's Meg White. O...

10/14/09: TWD's Agenda For The Day: So Now She Has Voice?

Image
Olympia Snowe's cabinet should definitely consist of those on the Finance Committee Just two weeks ago, Olympia Snowe didn't have the courage to speak when the time came to explain why she didn't want a public option. All she said was her "No" vote and that's it. Nothing. Not one damn word from her (or Blanche Lincoln for example) about why she was against it. But we all know why, so let's not get into that. It is just a moment to highlight how no one in the corporate media (surprise) has not uttered one single word about Snowe herself not uttering one single word on the characteristic that will truly bring historic health care reform. That is, without question, a smack to the face of the people of this nation when President Obama keeps saying "We are one step closer to historic reform." Because it is not. And the fact that they continue to somehow freely giving an opening to the insurance lobby despite slamming it over the AHIP nonsense yester...

Pelosi Slaps Down Trigger, Calls It "An Excuse To Do Nothing

Image
Man, oh man. In another possible sign that a real showdown is looming over the public option, Nancy Pelosi offered some surprisingly harsh condemnation today of the idea of a public option with a “trigger,” denouncing it as “an excuse for not doing anything.” A Pelosi aide sends over a transcript from her presser today: Continuing PELOSI: We’re thinking and deciding about it. And the evidence seems to point, at this caucus that I just went to, that a trigger is an excuse for not doing anything. But everybody is open to listening to what people have to say. The point was made over and over again that for one reason or another the trigger was not effective in the Medicare Part D bill. Sargent makes a very salient point here: It’s hard to see how she could support it later if she believes it’s tantamount to doing nothing. No question about this, and again, it highlights the external roller coaster ride but internal consistency that the House Speaker has shown on this issue. One day stand...

Maybe to insure that the status quo stays and stays long and well. The Senate has been fairly clear that they cannot pass a healthcare bill including a public option, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel asserted Wednesday evening. Emanuel professed pessimism that healthcare reform would include a strict public (or "government-run") option, though he signaled an expectation that House liberals may still push for the prized reform. "I think Senate's been clear about the prospect there is," Emanuel told PBS's Charlie Rose when asked if healthcare can pass with the public option. "That doesn't mean in the House they're not going to come to the table and demand it." Yeah, real sweet for the "Triggerman". He is such a cape crusader of defending the status quo and the corporate lobbyist destroying a good bit of the Democratic Party after it has basically ended a rational chance at getting anyone from the Republican Party to act wit...

Roller Coaster

I knew giving her praise yesterday would be temporary. You just had to feel it : Pelosi's spokesman, Nadeam Elshami, pushed back against recent news reports that Speaker Pelosi was going to drop the deal that she had made with the Blue Dog Democrats not to have the public option be pegged to Medicare plus rates in order to be competitive. Here's what he said below: Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami emailed us late last night to assert that no final decisions have been made on the shape of the public option: “It is inaccurate for anyone to assert that the Speaker or the Leadership has determined the form of the public option. How we move forward on the public option will continue to be discussed by the Leadership and the Caucus, which will meet on Thursday." Yeah, what a surprise. And notice the phrase "form of the public option." Will she cave or not is just the answer that will suffice. A civil war will probably happen if she does .

9/23/09: TWD's Agenda For The Day- The Civl War Brewing

Mike Lux said is so very right here. The love for President Snowe and the insurance lobbyist triggers is so crazy, but there is something even deeper brewing here . The AFL-CIO, Howard Dean and Democracy for America, bloggers, MoveOn.org, progressive media figures, and the tens of thousands of people coming to Obama rallies and cheering wildly for a public option will figure out quickly that this trigger proposal is a farce specifically written to kill any chance of a public option. The Congressional Progressive Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus already are angry at having legal immigrants thrown under the bus by Baucus, all will explode. As someone who spends every single day working hard to build and strengthen the bridge between the progressive community and the White House, I feel like the White House is triggering a bomb to blow the bridge up from under me (pun fully intended). This trigger will never trigger a public option, but I can tell...
