A Special Sports Thread For 1/6/14: Jameis The Famous Prevent Another Malzahn Miracle as FSU are Champs Again

Image
Final Version  Halfime Thread: The signs that are sweeping the nation As long as Freeman and Williams are being used, FSU will be fine after that needed touchdown before the half. Their linebackers though need to get lined up since Fulse and Uzomah will be used by Malzahn for sure.  Auburn must be careful with Whitfield on the return. He is a major threat.  First Version  When Auburn has the ball  OL's Akex Kozan and Reese Dismukes vs DL's Timmy Jernigan and Christian Jones WR's Sammie Coates, Ricardo Louis, and Quay Bray with TE Brandon Fulse vs CB's LaMarcus Joyney, Nick Waisome & safety Karlos Williams and Terrence Brooks When Florida State has the ball OL Josue Matias, Bobby Hart, and Tre Jackson vs DL's Dee Ford, Nosa Eguae, and Gabe Wright WR's Rashad Greene, Kenny Shaw, and Kelvin Benjamin vs CB;s Chris Davis, Jonathon Mincy, and Jermaine Whitehead. TWD Saturday Sports Thread #1 For 11/30/13: The Malzahn Miracle 2: The Sequel (Final Recaps)

Iron Bowl Final: Auburn 34, Alabama 28  Even with maybe the greatest conclusion ever in NCAA football history, Auburn or Missouri may still not go to the BCS title game if Ohio State and Florida State win their respective conference title games next Saturday. It is something that is already simmering heavy in SEC waters, with a major fear of them being locked out of the main title game.  And it will be highly unfair for Ohio State to get jumped by Auburn or Missouri (because South Carolina won't jump anybody) after beating a tough Michigan State team with arguably the best defense in the nation.  But first, let's emphasize how Alabama's lack of a special teams coach haunted them again. It was the right decision for Nick Saban to try and kick the field goal with freshman Adam Griffith spelling a nightmare day for Caleb Foster. But how he didn't factor in Chris Davis great return ability there turned out to bite him in the you know what.  More a...

Sports Saturday Thread #2 for 10/17/09: McCoy's Game Saving Tackle.....Yes, You Read Right, Gives Texas The Red River Win Again

Image
The biggest moment in this game, no question, came in the latter stages, when Colt McCoy threw an interception to the hands of Brian Jackson. The Oklahoma #2 was destined to go to the end zone to give Oklahoma the 19-16 lead, with only McCoy standing in his way. But that was the main problem, as McCoy made a game saving tackle, and possibly, a Big 12 and National Title tackle. You know the rest of the story . Sooner turnovers and Bradford injuries causing problems. Either way, another Red River classic.

Sports Thread For 9/24/09: BCS BS Football- Ole Miss National Title Hopes In Serious Risk

Image
Photo from Mary Ann Chastian Down 16-3 to South Carolina, with Jevan Snead getting harassed all night long and not looking Heisman like at all. And in the end, the pressure of high expectations and national championship hopes has gotten to Ole Miss, as Houston Nutt's side losses a bitter disappointing game to a South Carolina team not one of the most talented around Columbia in the tenure of Steve Spurrier. The 16-10 loss to the Gamecocks was hampered by arguably Jevan Snead's worst performance ever, as that vaunted Rebel offense looked like a shell of itself throughout the entire game. But credit must also be given to the other quarterback in this game, Steven Garcia. Normally prone to hurt his team with a key mistake in a game, Garcia turned in a heady, mistake free performance that will make the "Ol' Ball Coach" happy indeed. Certainly happy is senior linebacker Eric Norwood, who came back to other USC for games like this and showed his quality, leading the G...

Sports Thread #2 For 9/19/09: BS BCS Football- Locker, Sargesian Lead Huskie Upset Over USC

Another trap Pac 10 road game for the Trojans. Will it be a defeat like to Sanford and Oregon State in year's past? Updated : Stanford two years ago, Oregon State last year, and now Washington with Jack Locker's great drive, have upset USC 16-13. They will remember Locker's great drive all day and night up there.

Sports Thread #1 for 12/30/08: Another, Albeit Passionate, Pathetic Attempt To Justify Bowl Games

Image
Photo from google.com Add Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated to the list of people not seeing the big picture with why bowl games, in the total whole scheme of things, are antiquated and assisted in the shameless money making corporations of college presidents and the NCAA. Mandel's lets compulsive nostalgia from his Northwestern days fuel his argument of why bowl games matter : In 1995, I was a sophomore at Northwestern when the Wildcats, which hadn't posted a winning record in 25 years, inexplicably rose up to go 10-1 and earn their first Rose Bowl berth in 47 years. Those of you old enough to remember it don't need me to rehash the details. For those of you who weren't, I would describe the shock level as akin to Appalachian State beating Michigan -- if Appalachian State had completely stunk the year before and also gone on to beat Notre Dame, Penn State and Wisconsin. Obviously, the excitement level on our previously apathetic campus soared with each mounting win,...
