The 1st Thread For 10/1/10: Proud To Give Money To Republican Wannabes

Image
Bobby Bright isn't just your typical annoying Blue Dog. For this week, Bright has made himself standout as the ideal example of how to just put a "D" after your name to get elected and do almost the exact opposite of what representing that "D" is. A few days ago, Bright was one of 3 Democrats to proudly join the nutcase party to vote against providing 9/11 heroes' needed health . And in his effort to top that hideous action, Bright has released this ad touting how much of a BFF he is to Mr. Tang of all individuals . I don't think even most Republicans would have their commercial indicate how they have an "80% voting record with John Boehner." Yet, because he has that wonderful "D" right after his name, this incumbent from Alabama's 2nd district gets a continued pledge from the DCCC: This is where the whole "Big Tent Party" theory can't even save face here. Here's a classless individual who then has ...

The House News For 9/29/10: 9/11 Responders Health Compensation Bill Finally Passes

Image
Still, some 160 nutcases (157 Republicans to go along with 3 Democrats) really hate people on 9-11 it appears by voting against this non-controversial bill. Despite Anthony Weiner not having to yell at the insane party today, the bill moves to that other house, where the Lords reside to take their sweet old time while the nation is in need of expediency. Update: And here are the 3 Democrats that joined those 157 9/11 loving Republicans in voting against 9/11 heroes. Marion Barry of AK-1st , Bobby Bright of AL-2, and Jimmy Cooper of TN-5th are certainly proud of their votes today. Maybe you should give them a call if you want them to know how you feel about them voting against 9/11 heroes needed health benefits.

The Catch Up Thread For 9/27/10: Civil Liberties Hell Week Continues (Updated: ABC Reports Emmanuel To Leave Administration This Week)

Image
Here's what has transpired since this site was last active: The fallout continues from the Obama Administration horrendous decision to dismiss the ACLU/CCR lawsuit to virtually kill whoever they want in this country without facing any repercussions. The Administration is now to the right of even the most extreme Bush loving, executive power craven advocate in David Rivkin with their choice. And now today, wiretapping what you talk about with your friends on AIM and Twitter is their next goal : Federal law enforcement and national security officials are preparing to seek sweeping new regulations for the Internet, arguing that their ability to wiretap criminal and terrorism suspects is “going dark” as people increasingly communicate online instead of by telephone. Essentially, officials want Congress to require all services that enable communications — including encrypted e-mail transmitters like BlackBerry, social networking Web sites like Facebook and software that allows ...

Yesterday's Leftovers For 7/19/10: The Nutcase Party's Latest Insane Vote In The House, With Stupid Stupak Joining Them

Image
Definitely not reported at all last week by anyone is the "Flood Extension Reform Act" voted on in the House on Thursday. Sponsored by Maxine Waters, the job of this bill is self-explanatory: Flood Insurance Reform Priorities Act of 2010 - (Sec. 3) Amends the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 (NIFA) to extend through FY2015 the National Flood Insurance Program and the Pilot Program for Mitigation of Severe Repetitive Loss Properties. The Nashville flood from this year and the Iowa flood from two years ago are prime paradigms of how important this bill from Walters is, which thankfully passed with ease. Yet, 90 fools in the House thought otherwise about this legislation. The majority of the 90 voting in disapproval came from the nutcase party's side as usual. And that final total of Republicans being insane as they always are was 89, including royal crackpots Marsha Blackburn and Steve King, along with little known but just as psycho John Duncan not thinking the ...

Yesterday's Leftovers For 7/7/10: "Punishment Is Only For The The Little People"

Image
Yesterday, as most many know, Bradley Manning, the leaker to Wikileaks of the infamous US soldiers shouting Iraqi civilians, received criminal charges. The attack on whistleblowers from the Obama Administration is just as intense and reckless as if they were the Cheney/Bush Administration. And the brilliant and intrepid Jesselyn Radack has another massive post over at the Kos, talking about and reminding people how President Obama has clearly changed his stance on protecting whistleblowers like Manning and Tom Drake. Damaging : Protect Whistleblowers: Often the best source of information about waste, fraud, and abuse in government is an existing government employee committed to public integrity and willing to speak out. Such acts of courage and patriotism, which can sometimes save lives and often save taxpayer dollars, should be encouraged rather than stifled. We need to empower federal employees as watchdogs of wrongdoing and partners in performance. Barack Obama will stren...

Bob Etheridge: The A--Hole Of the Week

As Atrios said : Not surprisingly, he was embarrassed at how much of an a---hole he was here : "I have seen the video posted on several blogs," says Etheridge. "I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction, and I apologize to all involved. Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina, I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse." Real embarrassed.

The House Of Lords For 6/10/10: They Like To Be Republicans Sometimes It Seems

Image
Photo from AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite So pathetic, even if it failed : The Murkowski resolution of disapproval of the EPA's regulation of greenhouses gasses failed today, 47-53. Blanche Lincoln voted for Murkowski's resolution, the resolution President Obama had vowed to veto, should it pass. Lincoln was joined, surprise, by Evan Bayh, Mark Pryor, Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu, and Jay Rockefeller. So did those great Republican moderates, Snowe, Collins, and Scott Brown. And so it goes. Rockefeller too, showing how much of a fraud he is. Just another day in The House of Lords.

The Laugh Of The Day

This was a great laugh :

Awwwww, We Hurt His Feelings

Image
It takes a very, VERY special situation for anyone rational to link to a National Review article . The following is one of those situations. And making it even more special is the fact that it comes at the last paragraph. And the politics of the issue are pretty rough. “This has really reached an unhealthy stage,” Stupak says. “People are threatening ethics complaints on me. On the left, they’re really stepping it up. Every day, from Rachel Maddow to the Daily Kos, it keeps coming. Does it bother me? Sure. Does it change my position? No.” HAHAHAHAHAHA. Those damn mean old lefty hippies have done it again. Those hippies who help exposed a lying non-rent paying religious nutcase for the fool that he is. Why must they she full light on this fraud of an individual? Because when people like this think they can get away with being the center of attention and impose their childish, selfish, and irrational views, and figure they can be slick about it for their own benefits, they des...

Yesterday's Leftovers For 3/10/10: How An Amendment That Helps Needy Families Failed In The Senate

Image
An amendment with undeserved little attention that failed to be placed into the Tax Extenders bill (which has the cloture label now and looks set to pass) yesterday is the Temporary Assistance For Nerdy's Emergency Fund. The amendment, submitted and proposed by Washington Dem Senator Patty Murray, was co-sponsored by the likes of Harkin, Boxer, Begich, Burris, Levin, Dodd, Gillibrand, Kerry, Schumer, Wyden, and Casey. It's purpose was to extend those invaluable items to families who definitely need them as well as help offer jobs to the youth during summertime. Now with the filibuster in tact, this amendment always was going to have difficulty getting passed into the final bill (especially with everyone present in the Senate actually yesterday). And it did fail by a 55-45 vote. But four Democrats had to somehow joined the 41 Republicans in voting against this very important and underrated emergency fund. Not a surprise that among those four include Ben Nelson. But w...

AFL-CIO Drops Lincoln, Commits $3 Mill To Halter

Image
This broke late tonight , as the momentum from the base for Bill Halter grows. Add Richard Trumka and crew to those glad that he wants to make Lobbyist Lincoln go to real full time job. A labor source confirmed to TPMDC tonight that the AFL-CIO voted to back new Senate candidate Lt. Gov Bill Halter over Sen. Blanche Lincoln in the May 18 Democratic primary in Arkansas. Three unions within the umbrella group have committed to a $3 million independent expenditure on Halter's behalf. All day long, the Rational Online Community has poured in the obvious support since the great news well back at the crack of dawn. And in the night time stage of this 1st day of March, the big unions are ready to going in on the fight against the establishment, which includes the White House. They, like everyone else, are sick of Lincoln: The backing of the AFL-CIO is an important one for any Democrat. For Halter, it signals that the unions are prepared to put their money where their mouth has be...

Yesterday's Leftovers For 2/24/10: Why Do House Republicans Hate Native Hawaiians

Image
You would think that House Republicans would have no problems with giving Native Hawaiians the same respect that Native Alaskians and Native Americans (Sports team's monikers withstanding) receive? Simple issue, simple solution, no need to make it partisan at all. But these House Republicans, please. The Akaka Bill , as it is nicknamed after the Hawaii Rep. Daniel Akaka authored the bill, has been demonized unsurprisingly by the nutcase wing. The bill clearly shows that Native Hawaiians are not recognized as Native Americans, preventing Native Hawaiians from opening up casinos. However, Republicans always have some sort of a reading comprehension program : Republicans, on the other hand, are fiercely opposed to the Akaka bill. They argue that it actually does recognize Native Hawaiians as an Indian tribe – something they say Congress does not have the power to do. Congressional Republicans believe that Native Hawaiians are a racial group instead and that the Akaka bill wou...

The Break For 2/9/10: Craig Becker Nomination Fails (With Roll Call)

Image
And guess who joined Ben Nelson and the Republicans? One Blanche Lincoln. The vote's final total was 52-33, and the roll call for you in a second. Update : And here is the final roll call vote : YEAs ---52 Akaka (D-HI) Baucus (D-MT) Bayh (D-IN) Begich (D-AK) Bennet (D-CO) Bingaman (D-NM) Boxer (D-CA) Brown (D-OH) Burris (D-IL) Cantwell (D-WA) Cardin (D-MD) Carper (D-DE) Casey (D-PA) Conrad (D-ND) Dodd (D-CT) Dorgan (D-ND) Durbin (D-IL) Feingold (D-WI) Feinstein (D-CA) Franken (D-MN) Gillibrand (D-NY) Hagan (D-NC) Harkin (D-IA) Johnson (D-SD) Kaufman (D-DE) Kerry (D-MA) Klobuchar (D-MN) Kohl (D-WI) Lautenberg (D-NJ) Leahy (D-VT) Levin (D-MI) Lieberman (ID-CT) McCaskill (D-MO) Menendez (D-NJ) Merkley (D-OR) Mikulski (D-MD) Murray (D-WA) Nelson (D-FL) Reed (D-RI) Reid (D-NV) Rockefeller (D-WV) Schumer (D-NY) Shaheen (D-NH) Specter (D-PA) Stabenow (D-MI) Tester (D-MT) Udall (D-CO) Udall (D-NM) Warner (D-VA) Webb (D-VA) Whitehouse...

He Wasn't Getting His

Image
Greg Sargent picks up probably the tip point point for Parker Griffith finally officially made himself a Republican today. But here’s a funny nugget buried in Politico’s report . It appears one reason he switched is that he was upset that the President took away his missile defense pork: The Obama administration’s decision to scrap plans to build a missile defense shield in Eastern Europe further frustrated Griffith, according to GOP sources, because his district contains the base for Boeing’s ground-based missile defense research. Angry that the administration made a clearly good foreign policy move that he didn't want happened helped in the ire of him to make the decision he made today. May he have fun with that primary he is going to be facing . Hilarious that the party he is joining now ran tough ads on him in the past. And they were pretty hard : And here too:

Calling Her Out

Image
TPM's valuable newest acquisition from the hell whole that is the Washington Times, Christina Bellantoni, has reported that Corporate Lobbyist supporter Senator Lincoln got a rude awakening in an online chat about her public option opposiition in an online chat last night. "Just deserts" certainly is the cliche' phrase to perfectly label what happened in this chat to a sellout Senator "We are terribly disappointed that you have caved in to the insurance industry and failed to support the public option for health care. It may very well affect our vote for you in the next election," Ray and Judy told her on the chat, which is posted online . "Unfortunately the insurance companies opposed the bill I supported in the Finance Committee. There are many ways to provide greater options and choices to individuals, including non-profits, a state plan, and a co-op plan," Lincoln wrote back. Lincoln certainly had a lot of nerve being unfazed in the assailment...

MoveOn Not Backing Down, Will Run Ads On Baucus, Conrad And Lincoln

Image
Bill Nelson and Tom Carper voted for the Schumer amendment, and are a little fortunate that they aren't in the ad as well, especially after voting against Rockefeller's better version. Still, no backing down from MoveOn . The Plum LineGreg Sargent's blog MoveOn Unleashes Ads Hitting Dem Senators Who Voted Against Public Option Okay, this is getting good. In a clear sign that the left will not hold back from targeting fellow Dems in the final stretch of the health care wars, MoveOn is going up on the air today with new radio spots slamming the “centrist” Dem Senators who voted against the public option amendments yesterday, a MoveOn official confirms. The ads, which haven’t yet been announced, will target Senators Kent Conrad, Blanche Lincoln, and Max Baucus in their home states, the official confirms. All three voted against the public option amendments pushed by Senators Jay Rockefeller and Chuck Schumer in the Senate Finance Committee yesterday. The MoveOn official sends ...

Ben Nelson Can't Count

Image
Photo from Omaha World-Herald It seems like everyone is doing teabagger math these days : One thing that’s driven many health care reform proponents nuts about Senator Ben Nelson is the sheer arbitrary nature of many of the hurdles he keeps laying in reform’s path. The latest: Nelson now says health care reform should have the support of 65 Senators to have credibility with the American people. Nelson also says he will actively oppose any efforts by Dems to do reform alone through the “reconciliation” process. Nelson made the claims to an audience in his home state of Nebraska, reports the Omaha World Herald. Even more telling is this headline from the Omaha World Herald about how Nelson loves himself some status quo behavior: Bipartisanship math is just like teabbager math these days. As John Aravosis said yesterday over at his great blog , "How can a bill be even 'bipartisan' with just one Republican vote anyway?" Or with just a handful of votes from the Sad Obnoxi...

9/18/09: TWD's Agenda For This Friday: Fox, Can You Chyron Them The "Wrong" Party Too?

Image
Remember yesterday when Fixed continued their Chyron 101 fails and actually got it right with the guy who let's lobbyist write his bill ? Well, they need to get ready to do this to these other Republicans who lie about being Democrats : And if Arkansas Senators are lying to their constituents, then you know their neighbors in Louisiana are too. I guess no wonder why Landrieu is go friends with her border buddies. And also bordering those Arkansas Senators is one Missouri Senator who will always have the possibility to disappoint. But hey, at least we knew where Baucus, lying salesmen Midwest salesmen Conrad and Nelson, and the independent A-hole Lieberman stand. Might as well make them Republicans too.

Fitting

Image
The clowns really did get this right, through they can be accused of not reading their Chyron 101 book again: This time through, maybe they got it purposely right.

While Hoyer Says He Will Support Public Option, Lincoln Says She Opposes One

Image
Lobbyists money loving ones they are. First, Hoyer flipping flopping self House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told cheering and jeering constituents Tuesday he still supports a public health insurance option as part of a health care overhaul. Previously he's said there's room for compromise. "If the question is do I plan to vote for a public option with or without Republican support, the answer is yes," Hoyer said. Yeah, where was the tone a few weeks ago Majority Leader ? One person consistent with acting like a Republican is one Ms. Lincoln . ( via TWI ) ’m not going to vote for a bill that’s not deficit-neutral, and I’m not going to vote for a bill that doesn’t do something about curbing the cost in the out years, because it would be pointless … I would not support a solely government-funded public option. We can’t afford that. Too expensive, huh? Yeah, it's too expensive that Ms. Lincoln gets all that insurance money to act un-Democratic it seems. Pretty sad tha...
