Oh, By The Way, No Charges For Bush Administration For Thrashing The DOJ

Image
What a surprise, what a surprise, what...........a........sur...........prise : The Associated Press has learned that the Justice Department will file no charges after a lengthy investigation into the Bush administration's firing of U.S. attorneys. A person close to the case says career prosecutor Nora Dannehy has concluded her two-year investigation into the Bush-era scandal. Dannehy was investigating whether political considerations played a part in the firings of U.S. attorneys who were dismissed in 2006. The firings, coupled with other allegations that Bush administration officials may have misled Congress about the reasons for the firings, became a distraction for the administration and contributed to the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. The AP's source spoke on condition of anonymity because the Justice Department has not announced the closure. I wonder how many times Eric Holder told Nora Dannehy to never keep look back, and back, and back. Un...

Jail For Them.......Now

Image
Photo from AP's Andres Leighton Because when you are the President of the United States and you know people are innocent, yet you decide to torture them, that is the only sufficient reward : George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld covered up that hundreds of innocent men were sent to the Guantánamo Bay prison camp because they feared that releasing them would harm the push for war in Iraq and the broader War on Terror, according to a new document obtained by The Times. The accusations were made by Lawrence Wilkerson, a top aide to Colin Powell, the former Republican Secretary of State, in a signed declaration to support a lawsuit filed by a Guantánamo detainee. It is the first time that such allegations have been made by a senior member of the Bush Administration. Colonel Wilkerson, who was General Powell’s chief of staff when he ran the State Department, was most critical of Mr Cheney and Mr Rumsfeld. He claimed that the former Vice-President and Defence Secretary kn...

The Straight Jacket Award Of The Day For 2/18/10: The First Day Of CPAC 2010

Image
Oh the crazy was in abundance today at the always annual CPAC in D.C. The highlights were so plenty that we have to sum it up in the Top 10 moments . 10. Dick Armey "The number 1 biggest problem in America is the physical size of this government" 9. That same aptly named man, laughing at the uninsured again with "Armey mocks the idea of a "crisis in health care" 8. This Jason Mattera sure has some manners. More to come from him later. 7. Some nut named David David Keene said "ACU chair Keene says CPAC has "Barack Obama honorary teleprompters" 6. The royal pig that is Erick Erickson said the unsurprisingly..."We got Fox News." 5. Erickson was not done, finding time to be obsessed with and poke fun at Media Matters 4. The voice of the "Demon Sheep" ad somehow thought it was rational to say Obama "probably" planning to use Gitmo to imprison Breitbart and Coulter." Wait, conservatives and rati...

Sunday Crap Shows Highlights For 2/14/10: One Maddow Is Greater Than Two Cheneys

Image
They are back! The worst father and daughter combo known to modern day man returned to these crap shows. And it was fun to see the deluded lies and crazy they spoke: To his credit, ABC's Jonathan Karl was much better than most thought he would be in this interview, getting Cheney to admit things he didn't want to admit, such as his Administration wanting Richard Reid to be tried in a civilian court instead of a military commissions . You know, just like the Obama Administration and all is doing with Abdul Mutallab. Still, he got a chance to lie and spend truth like he did though, as well as still support his position of wanting to torture people like Abdul Mutallab with waterboarding: One more thing...the networks love saying it's a giant exclusive interview . Isn't it? And not to be far away is his favorite puppet daughter, Lizzy! She really called out John Brennan today, didn't she? As you also see, Liz then has the nerve to blame Civilian courts f...

Tony Blair's Painful Lies On Iraq Being Revealed

Image
Remember earlier in the week when the British began their independent inquiry into Iraq ? Well, this massive tidbit that few will notice in this country, especially our corporate media, was dropped today about Tony Blair. He bullied his Parliament thanks to his lies about Iraq it appears An explosive secret letter that exposes how Tony Blair lied over the legality of the Iraq War can be revealed. The Chilcot Inquiry into the war will interrogate the former Prime Minister over the devastating 'smoking gun' memo, which warned him in the starkest terms the war was illegal. The Mail on Sunday can disclose that Attorney General Lord Goldsmith wrote the letter to Mr Blair in July 2002 - a full eight months before the war - telling him that deposing Saddam Hussein was a blatant breach of international law. It was intended to make Mr Blair call off the invasion, but he ignored it. Instead, a panicking Mr Blair issued instructions to gag Lord Goldsmith, banned him from attending Cabine...

Technically Irrelevant People Are Making Irrelevant News Today

Let's celebrate the relevancy of the irrelevant : In a huddle with reporters moments ago, I asked Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) for her thoughts on a public option compromise that would allow states to opt out of a national government insurance program, and her answer could slow down the proposal's considerable momentum . "I don't support that," Snowe said. It gets better ! I love when the irrelevant drive the news.

DNC Ad's on Dicky Dick

Not bad At least it wasn't a happy go lucky ad. Wish they would say the word torture, but the fact they put McCain's soundbite from Sunday is pretty good in my mind.

So, Is Liz His VP?

Image
Look who is getting more momentum for a 2012 bid. At first, it seemed like a joke. Wall Street Journal columnist James Taranto opined on Monday that -- if the 2012 election were to turn to national security -- "it's hard to think of a better candidate... than Richard B. Cheney." But while his headline -- "Cheney for President" -- provoked guffaws in some quarters, several of the party's most well-regarded strategists and pollsters are actually taking the idea deadly seriously. Amazing isn't it. It seems like he would be a great president, but Sammy Stein reminds us that there are a few little things stopping a President Cheney Administration from happening Of course, speculating about a Cheney presidency is ludicrous for many reasons. For starters, it's three years and several months until the general election. Moreover, the former vice president's age and health remain a major issue (as they did when he was picked to be VP nine years ago). And...

McCain Says "Interrogations Were In Violation Of The Geneva Convention," But Blames Obama DOJ For Investigation

The up and down nature of John McCain. This came after Dicky Dick said what he had to say to defend his disgraceful self. Well, at least his daughter wasn't a puppet for him this time like she always is.

What Crimes They Didn't Commit?

Seriously:

He Sure Does Love The Attention Now

Image
Via the terrific Greg Sargent, take a look at how our former disgraced Vice President has suddenly now been on TV more than Apple and Dos Equis commercials. (If the image is too small, just click on it) And the networks have all been willing to let him spew his aspersions and delusions. Only our "liberal media." (Thanks to the great Pew Research group for their terrific journalism). Update: Via Washington Monthly ace Steve Benen : After Obama's speech in Cairo this morning, the "Morning Joe" crew began its analysis. Apparently concerned that Liz Cheney hasn't been on the cable networks nearly enough lately , "Morning Joe" invited the former Bush administration official to offer more obligatory criticism of the president. Former VP's daughter tells MSNBC she "was troubled by the extent to which I heard moral relativism." Whatever. Liz Cheney's disappointment is of no real consequence. It's neither surprising nor interesting....

Fine, Let Her Run

Not a surprise this great journalism interview was done by Fixed Propaganda's softball specialist Greta van Susteren. With that last name, and all the stuff that she has said over the last few weeks, why not? Let her run. And we shall she who is foolish enough to vote for her. And with how voting went in 2000, 2004, and even 2008, there will be enough fools out to do just so.

He Almost Slip A Fast One By Us.........And He Actually Did

Image
Yesterday, the disgraced former Vice President made an appearance at the National Press Club yesterday, and generated headlines from his quote that gay marriage should be allowed. Though he said that states should decide and not the federal government, Cheney's quote resonated as the standout moment of his unbearable press conference yesterday from most of us, including Mr.Marshall . However, if it wasn't for henry porter at the Kos , we all would have missed this one. And this is a REAL BIG ONE that sadly will go by the waste side. Cheney Says There Was No Iraq Link to 9/11 Attacks So your eyes ren't lying to you, let me just bring you the headline: Yup, though Cheney now says, NOW SAYS, the blame is on others, like the CIA and Richard Clarke. But that's not unexpected from an ultimate torture, war crime breaking advocate that is Cheney. And just as disturbing is the fact that it isn't unexpected that this went more unnoticed than ants in Times Square.

Campbell Brown Returns!.......................And Welcomes Liz Cheney On Her Return. Sigh

Image
CNN has been hyping all week the return of 3rd place 8PM anchor Campbell Brown to the television set. Brown had been absent form her show after having her second child with husband Dan Senor. Anyway, to celebrate her triumphant return minus the "No Bias, No Bull" stupid label to her show, Brown introduced a "Great Debate" panel for the first time on her show (ok, they framed it as the first time on her show, though it's the same idiotic "Let's here both sides debate" type of discussion). And who was apart of this fascinating, wonderful discussion besides Democratic strategists Paul Begala? Who????????? Dick Cheney's little girl, Liz Cheney. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. The perfect person to bring credibility to your struggling show. And CNN, you are a little late in the "Liz Cheney media shame tour." Sadly, it is another area where MSNBC beat you in, again.

Michigan Senator Levin Basically Calls A Boldface Liar: The Reaction All Around "TRONN"

(For those who don't know what TRONN stands for, it means The Rational Online Network of Networks). First, the story that broke the afternoon it occurred, as Senator Carl Levin of Michigan, the Chairman of the powerful Armed Services Committee in Congress, basically called Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz's claims in the media recently far "from the truth." This all basically started from beachmom's post over at the Kos As you recall, Levin released a report on the treatment of detainees which was signed off on by the Republicans on the Armed Services Committee as well, which was quite damning of the Bush Administration and the regime Dick Cheney created. In short, Levin has done the research and knows what he is talking about. When former Vice President Cheney said last week that what happened at Abu Ghraib was the work of "a few sadistic prison guards" acting on their own, he bore false witness. And when he said last week there was no link between t...

Politico's Roger Simon Askes The Stuipest Question Of The Day..............And His Answer Is Even WORST

Image
Roger Simon, the Politico columnist and part of Chirs "Tweety" Matthews buddy buddies on his show, is by all intensive purposes, a world class idiot. And he has done something that I thought was certainly impossible to even attempt. No, not a 1080 slam dunk (because a 720 has already been accomplished), but as the title of this post indicates, he has accomplished just that. Now what was the stupid question, and how was he able to even top that level of daftness? The question was this: Yes, it was so unbelievable that Simon, especially in this current political climate, would even ask that question. Just to make sure that he and Hackio were in full jest and being totally facetious, I had to just click on (and give these fools more traffic) that link. And then, this is what the page showed: Okay, okay, I'm thinking that maybe I shouldn't judge a book by its cover, and read the article to see if there was any possibly that Simon would at least answer his dumb question w...

5/22/09- TWD's Agenda For The Day: Puppet of the Year

Image
Never would I have thought that I would be calling for the presence of Meghan McCain (still pissed her father didn't win) or think that she isn't as annoying as she always is. Because Liz Cheney clearly makes her feel tolerable. The field of journalism and the sense of justice has been damaged again just with the mere presence of her not only on television, but the lamest interviews conducted with her. It really does say something when Norah O'Donnell of all hack journalists gives the strongest interview to this nutcase of a legacy defender (though Anderson Cooper really stumped her with this one last night , I'll give him that.) Yesterday, after her father was spewing his acerbic poison, this pathetic session done by Chuck Todd (continuing to eviscerate any good moments of him during last year's primary season) gives more ammunition to combating those still willingly to believe that the media is fully liberal. Todd mentions the now dubious Pentagon report that wa...

A Hell of A Point

The Daily Kos' tireless video editor Jed Lewison makes a point that many (outside of Keith Olbermann, Josh Marshall , Jacob Heilburn ) have missed. That point is the fact that the last Vice President today still continues to link 9/11 and Al Qaeda with Iraq. It is pathetic desperation at its highest (and absolute saddest as well). That Cheney would once again lie about Iraq is no big surprise, but the fact that he told those lies once again during today’s speech should raise even more questions about the veracity of his torture defense. The man is a pathological liar, and there is no reason to believe a word he says. Sadly though, there are still a good bit that not only believes what he says, but even if they don't believe, don't mind at all giving him the time of day to spew his extreme bile in the face of this nation.

12/18/08- TWD's Agenda For The Day: Their Denial Continues

Image
Photo from Think Progress As many on the Rational Online News Network continue to focus on Obama's pick of Rick Warren for the invocation at his inauguration still ( including Obama himself ), the agenda for a second consecutive day will focus on the The Denial Administration continuing their aspersion and shameful dishonesty: The worst Vice President in history comments to the conservative Washington Times released today : Cheney stridently defended the Bush administration’s torture policies, saying, “I feel very good about what we did. I think it was the right thing to do.” He added emphatically that he would “do exactly the same thing again.” Most audaciously, Cheney specifically defended the morality of torture, suggesting that it would have been immoral for the United States to not torture: “In my mind, the foremost obligation we had from a moral or an ethical standpoint was to the oath of office we took when we were sworn in, on January 20 of 2001, to protect and defen...
