The Break For 7/28/10: Judge Blocks Portion Of SB 1070 (Updated)

Image
The news is breaking in on the Judge blocking some parts of the controversial SB 1070 law, including this : That portion of the law is not going into effect. Violation of federal control of the law was the key determining point in this controversial issue, as the 11 Amendment looks to be the key determining factor. CNN's Jeff Tobin has indicated that this looks destined to go to SCOTUS next year. Update: Clearly not happy over Susan Bolton siding with the Obama Administration, Arizona's insane leader lashed out and said "The Fight is not over." Here is the full decision if you want to read folks .

Our Post Racial America

Image
Today's wonderful edition : The San Antonio News reports that a Jefferson High School English teacher has been “removed from the classroom” for singling out a Latino student wearing a Mexican soccer jersey and publicly insulting him. According to the student, Augustine Ortiz, what began as a discussion about Arizona’s new immigration law (SB-1070) escalated to an anti-Latino, racist attack: Ortiz, who was wearing a jersey from a Mexican soccer team, said the teacher told him to sit in the front row. She proceeded to single him out repeatedly, Ortiz said, pointing at him as she made comments like, “The Mexicans with their attitudes are the racist ones.” Continuing to point at Ortiz, she allegedly told the class that Mexicans always “expect handouts” and “soon it’s going to be the United States of Mexico,” according to Ortiz. The Break #2 For 5/12/10: By A 13-1 Vote, Los Angeles Boycotts Business With Arizona

Image
I wonder who the lone vote was to not boycott : Here's the full story . Los Angeles on Wednesday became the largest city yet to boycott Arizona over its tough new law targeting illegal immigration in a move that likely will affect some $8 million in contracts with the state. The City Council voted 13-1 to bar Los Angeles from conducting business with Arizona unless the law is repealed. "Los Angeles is the second-largest city in this country. An immigrant city, an international city needs to have its voice heard," Councilman Ed Reyes said. The vote followed an emotional council discussion during which many members noted that their ancestors were U.S. immigrants. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa already has said he would approve the boycott.

The Most Immature 73 Year Old Person In Human History

Not a surprise he chooses to fight like he is still in 2008 thanks to his fear of losing in 2010 and defend the "Lou Dobbs" Bill . Especially after the appropriate comments from the President yesterday . Gettin’ hotter in Arizona: Immigration hawk John McCain says that if Obama doesn’t like the immigration law, he should send in Federal troops, reports the Arizona Republic. “If the president doesn’t like what the Arizona Legislature and governor may be doing, then I call on the president to immediately call for the dispatch of 3,000 National Guard troops to our border,” McCain said. “And that way, then the state of Arizona will not have to enact legislation which they have to do because of the federal government’s failure to carry out its responsibilities, which is to secure the borders.” McCain not only wants to just stick it to Obama (although he'll always fail in that), but also because of how much trepidation he is feeling from J.D. Hayworth in that nutty pr...

Arizona Signs Control Immigration Law, Replaces Virginia As Insane State Of The Month

Image
We should all call this bill " The Lou Dobbs Bill ." Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer today signed into law an immigration bill that gives the state toughest law in the nation, making it a state crime to be in the country illegally and requiring local police to enforce federal immigration laws. Brewer said she signed the bill in response to "the crisis the federal government has refused to fix.'' Hispanic leaders addressing the hundreds of protesters at the Capitol immediately vowed to wage a legal fight. The new immigration law will require anyone whom police suspect of being in the country illegally to produce "an alien registration document," such as a green card, or other proof of citizenship such as a passport or Arizona driver's license. Dora the Explorer, Rodrigo Lopez and his fellow Latino teammates on the Arizona Diamondbacks, and everyone else brown should watch out now. You may be deemed way too brown for some people's likings. McCain forced to campaign in Arizona on Monday. I bet he wishes he could spend the evening in Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Florida. Not on that, but spending time in your own state the day before the last date of voting. Geez Louise. The home state is already the straw showing how terrible McCain's chances are at this point. But factors in Georgia and North Dakota , traditional and usual Republican, Red State strongholds, also indicate ominous signs for the POW.
