Our Horrible Centrism Media Thread For 12/3/12:

Image
Photo from Pete Souza In reminding our indolent and arrogant colleagues in centrism American media once again that only one side is to blame for this wrongly labeled 'fiscal cliff' nonsense, intrepid Greg Sargent this morning displays the latest reason why Republicans are fully incapable of ever being rational or honest again . As always, there simply isn't any equivalence here. Even if you think the Democratic offer is too light on spending cuts, the basic fact remains that Dems have made a substantial proposal, while Republicans haven't. Now it's just important for most to recognize here, especially rational people in this country (which consist of liberal Americans who pay attention, who know who they are dealing with in regards to all current political figures, and/or who are not knee jerk pessimists or polemics), this salient point in my view: Deep down inside, Obama knows a majority of Republicans in these modern times just will never agree to ever ...

Yesterday Leftovers For 4/23/10: What Else Won't They Do?

Gosh these people are so sickening : In case you didn’t think that Republicans have a strategy of delaying and obstructing everything, consider this story : Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) took to the Senate floor on Thursday to blast Republicans for blocking confirmation of nominees who were actually confirmed earlier in the day. The first-term senator castigated anonymous holds on five U.S. Attorney nominees, five U.S. Marshal nominees, and the nominee to be deputy director of National Drug Policy Control. A unanimous consent motion an hour earlier by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, had the effect of confirming those nominees, though. “A lot of states where the people’s business is not getting done because those nominees haven’t been put in place,” Shaheen said. “And the sad thing is the people who have these folks on hold are trying to get back at somebody in government, but the people who are suffering are the constituents in those ...

The Bunning Senate Takeover Is Over........Sort Of

Image
Reporters are now allowed back on the Senate elevator ! Under increasing pressure from Democrats and members of his own party, Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) Tuesday night abandoned his one-man filibuster of a one-month extension to unemployment benefits and other programs. In the end Bunning agreed to a deal allowing him one vote on an amendment to pay for the bill’s $10 billion cost. That proposal was offered by Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) last Thursday at the start of his filibuster, but Bunning rejected it because he feared his amendment would not pass. And what about the nominations that he also pledge to block a few hours ago ? To ensure the deal is enforced, Bunning has placed a hold on all the items included in the nightly “wrap up,” which normally entails a unanimous consent agreement to pass noncontroversial nominations and bills, a GOP aide said. Once the votes have taken place that hold would be lifted, the aide explained...

Attacking Their Former Close Allies

Image
Mitch McConnell and Kit Bond today did something that you would have never thought a Republican would even dare think of doing. Make fun and slander the Federal Bureau of Investigation. First, it was the Missouri senator showing how reckless he could be whenever he opens his mouth by announcing that he thought the information of Umar Farouk Abdulmuttalab's cooperation being made known public was dangerous and that it somehow went against what FBI Director Bob Mueller promised him in regards to " keeping his cooperation quiet ." Bond said the "release of this sensitive information has no doubt been helpful" to Abdulmutallab's "terrorist cohorts around the world." Bond's absurd desire to publicly make an example of the FBI was not dismissed at all by Gibbs when Tapper asked him about it: Gibbs said "no briefing is done here or anywhere in this administration where classified information is used in a place where it shouldn't be....

Holder to McConnell, SOP: STFU

Image
Attorney General Eric holder, tired of the idiots that represent the idiot party right now, wrote a letter to their hapless Senate leader in response to their complaining about us trying to uphold to the values of our laws and Constitution. In a letter filled with a straight formal request to stop embarrassing the country, the most stringing point from Holder to McConnell was this: As to whether or not Abdulmutallab should have been allowed access to counsel, Holder offers a doozy: Some have argued that had Abdulmutallab been declared an enemy combatant, the government could have held him indefinitely without providing him access to an attorney. But the government's legal authority to do so is far from clear. In fact, when the Bush administration attempted to deny Jose Padilla access to an attorney, a federal judge in New York rejected that position, ruling that Padilla must be allowed to meet with his lawyer. Notably, the judge in that case was Michael Mukasey, my predecesso...

9/16/09: TWD's Agenda For The Day: Legitimizing Their Irrelevance

The plan that has been catered to them, they still say "No." So, as Rachel Maddow so eloquently said last night, would Baucus than put back all the other stuff, including the public option, and then leading to something she probably will say tonight, House Leader (or lack there of) Reid shoving reconciliation down their throats? It is what it is. The lobbyist want you to bend over backwards, and the SOP have done what they needed to do for a 13% party. You have got to give them credit. They have officially become the most powerful irrelevant party in American history. (And you can think your corporate media for that as well.)
