Music Thread For 9/21/10: Bruno Mars Arrested, While Kid Cudi & Wale Won't Be Collaborating With Each Other Anytime Soon

Image
Photo from Las Vegas police department Bruno Mars caught with coke is surely a way to blunt his momentum that he has built for his album release . But at least he smiled in his mug shot. Wale certainly does not like Kid Cudi for certain reasons . The rock group Pavement had a big show here in Brooklyn this past Sunday . New songs: 1. Pharrell, Gucci Mane, and Nicki Minaj with "Haterade" , a song with a title that should have been done by someone a long time ago. 2. The intro song off of Lil Wayne's new upcoming album "I'm Not A Human Being" with Drake called "Gonorrhea" . The runthrough.

TWD Song of the Week: Chrisette Michele Feat Eve- Fragile

Well deserved is this selection from one Chrisette Michele. Probably just as impressive is the fact that she produced this track herself along with with two others here, and the individual quality rings true. Some have thought Wale did okay, or didn't fit the song here. But he doesn't at all come close to ruining the quality that is Michele on this track. So, without further ado, here is TWD Saturday's Song of the Week, "Fragile from Chrisette Michele.

Music Wakeup Call For 2/10/10: Chrisette Michele feat Wale- Fragile (2010)

Underrated song of our times, here is Chrisette Michele featuring Wale with "Fragile", your morning wakeup call for this February 10 day.

Music Thread #1 For 11/19/09: For The 2nd Straight Week, No Urban Albums In The top 10

For the second consecutive week, there is no Rap or R&B album on the Billboard Top 10. Added insult to injury is the fact that "The Blueprint 3" is the only album in the Top 20 in the urban category (and that's if you don't include Michael Jackson's "This Is It" album at #4). More sobering news is the fact that Wale, who I documented earlier this week his weird shipping situation/strategy , is the ONLY other rapper in the Top 100 (28,000 sound on his first week). And for final insult to injury, Maxwell is the only non-Beyonce' R&B artist even in the Top 100, at #86. Poor or mishandled promotion (in the case of Wale) and/or mediocre to worse songs is more of a cause for this then downloading in my mind. You enhance the values of downloading by furthering the progression of just unexciting music. Club hits just don't translate anymore. And really, playing big money to producers just isn't smart economics in these miserable times for sal...

Music Thread #1 For 11/17/09: This Is Part Of A Bigger Goal For Wale?

Image
It really says something about how labels don't give a damn about their artists when Wale gets only 30,000 copies of his album shipped out. “This is my biography. It’s honest. Raw emotion. It’s close to me,” Wale detailed. “That’s why part of me will be a little offended if it doesn’t get heard. I don’t want people to take lack of sales as me taking a hit. This is something different. My label is letting me put out an album with a single that released seven months ago. We’re not going for first week sales. We only shipping out 30,000 of them. We’re going for that grind. We’re showing people that you can build a fanbase the old fashioned way.” Now I can understand from what Wale is saying there that this is a long term process for him, and he is immersed in "the grind." He doesn't want to flash out and be gone from the game in an instance like almost every newcomer has today. But I can't picture this at all happening to an artist in the pop or rock field signed to ...

Music Thread #1 for 7/6/09: Wale ft Lady Gaga, "Chillin" And More

I'm a month late with this one, I know, but first time I saw the video yesterday. Shot in Boston just as much as it was in D.C., so lying is going down right now. Very good effort for sure. Memo to HipHopDx.....Jonathan Stewart isn't a star.....yet. The Game is such a loser. He really is. Now BET regrets that Drake and lil Wayne "Every Girl" performance. “BET Networks deeply regrets the performance by Young Money [click to read] at the BET AWARDS,” a BET representative told AllHipHop.com. “Elements of the performance were unplanned and should not have happened.” Now they do. But I won't hold my breath on any regrets for that Toya and Tanya garbage they are airing.
