The segment that stood out the most for me in MSNBC primetime tonight on Elena Kagan was not Ezra Klein and Jonathan Turley on Countdown, nor the potential growing (and hopefully respectful spat) between Glenn Greenwald and Lawrence Lessig. Rather, it was the third segment on Rachel Madoow's show that highlighted the main perspective that I harbor for today's well-bantered nominee for the highest court in the land. It displays for my eyes that Kagan, despite her tremendous credentials, just doesn't have the strength to keep to the court to the left like the terrific predecessor she hopes to replace, John Paul Stevens. Now besides Roberts being a virtually classless arrogant a-hole like he normally is, Maddow strikes the right point on Kagan being able to fight, something that Diane Wood would have provided in my opinion (and certainly Dawn Johnsen would have bestowed if need be.) It takes a really special stupid and/or mendacious person to basically make Rachel Maddow very very upset on her television show (or anyone else for that matter). They are back! The worst father and daughter combo known to modern day man returned to these crap shows. And it was fun to see the deluded lies and crazy they spoke: To his credit, ABC's Jonathan Karl was much better than most thought he would be in this interview, getting Cheney to admit things he didn't want to admit, such as his Administration wanting Richard Reid to be tried in a civilian court instead of a military commissions . Well the news of the last 15 hours is dominating. A lot of people hate the terrible timing of this, obviously. Now to be fair, I feel Maddow jumped a little too hard on Jared Bernstein last night , making her opinions being felt instead of having Bernstein tell the whole info and then delivering her perspective, especially on the "across the board freeze" issue. But I leave it to the terrific Bill McBride to say this clear: This is an important issue, but I'd rather wait to address the deficit until after we see clear signs of a recovery. Why even cater to the Evan Bayhs and Judd Greggs of the world? Just why?

Liz Cheney says that Keith Olbermann, Ed Schultz, and Chris Matthews are scared to debate her. And suddenly, the "Liz Cheney Fan Club" has started online web ads to make it appear that Olbermann, Schultz, and Matthews are "TEH SCARED" of the "Puppet of the Year!" Just take a look : What makes this even more funny is this fact: Cheney never mentions that Rachel Maddow is scared to debate her. Even more utter hilarity is the other fact that Maddow and her producers have asked Cheney to appear on their show. But, there has been nothing but silence from her and her fan club on doing that interview. Surprise! Steve Benen adds his usual great two cents : To borrow a phrase, why doesn't Liz Cheney want to talk substance? Why doesn't she want to debate the issues? Because she is intimidated and frighted at being interviewed by the nicest, smartest person arguably in all of American news television. I guess being smart and nice is intimidating nowadays. E...

I talked to a conservative friend yesterday. She was angry, saying that "It's not fair that we get labeled bad things if we criticize Obama for everything, yet, when Bush was President, it was okay to slam him for everything though?" First off, no one rational slammed Bush for everything, but for many obvious things. Second, there will always be people beholden to a President no matter what they do, good or bad, just because they are stuck on the Kool-aid of that President. And third, it is yet another silly conservative straw man that fails to look at the bigger picture. Thanks goodness for sensible people.
