Your Morning Coffee Spill For 12/15/09: Bush Emails Won't Be Release Until 2022

Image
Protecting your predecessor continues(AP Photo/Ron Edmonds, File) May you not spit out anything at your computer screen after you read this. One of the few pieces of good news yesterday has now turned so damn laughable, it should be given its own half hour show on HBO. But if you think the news means we're finally about to get the full story on the Valerie Plame leak, or the deliberations that took us to war in Iraq, think again. Many of the roughly 22 million emails secured through the deal likely won't be made public until 2022. And even the ones that can be released sooner won't see the light of day for around three years. The emails will be turned over to the National Archives, where they'll be treated, initially at least, as presidential records, Anne Weismann, a senior lawyer for CREW, one of the groups that had sued over the emails, explained to TPMmuckraker. That means that, under the Presidential Records Act , they won't be made public for five years. But...

The Break For 12/14/09: Bush Administration 22 Missing Emails Recovered

Image
Big story breaking right now : Two nonprofit groups say that computer technicians have found 22 million White House e-mails from the administration of President George W. Bush. The two groups say the electronic messages were previously mislabeled and effectively lost. An announcement Monday by the two groups is the latest development in a controversy that surrounded the failure by the Bush White House to install an electronic recordkeeping system. As always, Marcy Wheeler goes even farther than the reports: That list includes almost all of the most suspect dates when email was missing, most notably the period (between September 29 and October 7, 2003) when Dick Cheney and Scooter Libby were working on a cover story in Jackson Hole. This is the period, remember, when Libby told Cheney the story he was going to tell the FBI–that he had learned of Plame’s identity from Tim Russert, not from Cheney himself. And it is also the period during which we know Fitzgerald was seeking emails, but ...

Dana Perino's Amnesia Problems Continue

The level of short term memory loss (or just outright lies) of Dana Perino is quite staggering to this writer's brain. I thought she couldn't top last week's loss memory of how her former boss let her witless self attack NBC relentlessly last year . But she certainly did just that . The transcript for those who had the fortune to miss out on hearing this mess PERINO: That was a coordinated, calculated attack. It was unbecoming. And if you look at some of the coverage of what mainstream media covers when, for example, somebody like a Hugo Chavez shuts down television stations, he calls them illegitimate. Now, I’m not suggesting that this White House believes that they are going to come over here and shut down Fox News. But they are defining a narrative in their first year, and it’s going to be very hard to recover from it. [...] Through our State Department, we are trying to help emerging democracies get journalists and government officials to talk to one another, because fr...

"Impossible" Is The Same Word, And Spelled The Same, As "Accomplished"

Image
It must be in his mind Bush also said that he regretted appearing in front of a “Mission Impossible” sign in 2003 during an address about the Iraq war. Of course, the sign actually said “Mission Accomplished.” Maybe “Mission Impossible” would have been more appropriate. (HT: Raw Story ) His brain. not mine. Or maybe he read this last night before speaking to try and do his own sad version of revisionist history. Or maybe he thought he was Tom Cruise last night.

Second To None In Hypocrisy And Stupidity

It's like they don't think people will do research for these things. The outcry and attacks on the Obama Administration continuing to tell the basic truth about Fixed Propaganda has conservatives all across the nation angry and relied up again. And the comedians on Fixed are in full frontal fight back as expected, even releasing their own poll on " Who would win this battle ?" Including this lovely morsel from Insanity: With their amnesia problems once again flaring up as always, the nutcases forget so easily that they were full steam ahead with the Cheney White House in their assault against NBC. From forgotten Bush counsel figure Ed Gillespie's angry letter to NBC and MSNBC calling them bias to this video below from Dana Perino, it is somehow mystifying how short term memory lost can happen so easy in the right-wing's feeble brains. At least CNN can claim no one is going after them, making them truly the best political team on television !

8/30/09: TWD's Agenda For This Sunday- Don't Ever Let Them Forget

Don't ever let them forget......don't you ever forget.

Thanks For Telling Us Now Tom Ridge

Image
Screwed the country over , no surprise here Tom Ridge, the first head of the 9/11-inspired Department of Homeland Security, wasn't keen on writing a tell-all. But in The Test of Our Times: America Under Siege...and How We Can Be Safe Again, out September 1, Ridge says he wants to shake "public complacency" over security. And to do that, well, he needs to tell all. Especially about the infighting he saw that frustrated his attempts to build a smooth-running department. Ridge also tried to block Michael Brownie Brown from heading of FEMA apparently in that linked piece. But he didn't try to block how he screwed the country royally over for Bush and Cheney. Lovely.

Bush Targeted Liberal Groups, And No One Is Covering This: What A Surprise To Both

Image
Sadly, unsurprising In a blow to the notion of meritocratic government, applicants to the Justice Department's internships and Honors Program were widely rejected if their resumes included the names of liberal groups on a departmental blacklist, the Washington Blade reports. According to an internal Justice Department report from 2008, while the policy was in place from 2006 to 2007, "candidates to the Honors Program whose applications indicated liberal affiliations were rejected at a high rate, around 55 percent, as opposed to candidates who had conservative affiliations, who were rejected at a rate of about 18 percent," the Blade states. 55% is bigger than 18%, for anyone that needed to know. Maybe those liberal applicants could have lied and said they were conservative, even though it probably wouldn't have worked though. But hey, the last eight years was a lie. So why not try and join the party, if I might kindly ask?

What Crimes They Didn't Commit?

Seriously:

A Lovely Gift: The Bushes Disgraceful Slap In The Face To The Obamas

As reported on MSNBC's Countdown tonight, Margaret Carlson told Keith Olbermann the pathetic story of how the Bushes lied to the Obamas about the Blair House being booked before January 16th. The Obamas had asked to move into the Blair House after their vacation before the inauguration into the White House but where told last month by Laura Bush's spokeswoman that the house would be available on January 15th instead, based on it being "historically the case." Only that it wasn't booked. At all. And disgraced former Australian Prime Minister John Howard is staying in there instead. Just take a look. The pettiness President ever. The worst President ever.

12/18/08- TWD's Agenda For The Day: Their Denial Continues

Image
Photo from Think Progress As many on the Rational Online News Network continue to focus on Obama's pick of Rick Warren for the invocation at his inauguration still ( including Obama himself ), the agenda for a second consecutive day will focus on the The Denial Administration continuing their aspersion and shameful dishonesty: The worst Vice President in history comments to the conservative Washington Times released today : Cheney stridently defended the Bush administration’s torture policies, saying, “I feel very good about what we did. I think it was the right thing to do.” He added emphatically that he would “do exactly the same thing again.” Most audaciously, Cheney specifically defended the morality of torture, suggesting that it would have been immoral for the United States to not torture: “In my mind, the foremost obligation we had from a moral or an ethical standpoint was to the oath of office we took when we were sworn in, on January 20 of 2001, to protect and defen...

Isn't She World Class At Denial?

Image
Photo from innercitypress.com I told you it wasn't going to last long. (To get this line, this click on the link, and read the title of this post as well.). Oh Ms. Denial soon to be Ex-Secretary of State : During a press conference yesterday in New York, a reporter asked Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to “look philosophically” at the state of diplomacy after eight years of the Bush administration and to think of “lessons we can draw out.” Rice then took the opportunity to polish up her boss’s record with the United Nations: RICE: I think that the United States, under President Bush, has actually used the mechanisms and the councils of the United Nations more than they’ve been used maybe ever, whether it is insisting that Security Council resolutions that have been passed be respected, [or] whether it is seeking to deal with human rights and tyranny cases like Zimbabwe or Burma. Just say it for me Ben: Indeed, the Bush White House has been spending a lot of time lately try...

12/17/08: TWD's Agenda For The Day: The Continuing Lies

Denial, denial, denial, from this administration. It is what they do. First, here's Bush for the 10th millionth time, not taking any responsibility for Iraq . In his latest exit interview, President Bush continued to shirk any responsibility for the problems in Iraq or for the severe economic recession. When CNN’s Candy Crowley asked whether the problem with pre-war intelligence was “a matter of interpretation” or “a matter of just bum information,” Bush admitted “it was just bad analysis” — done by others, not himself. In fact, he lamented the bad intelligence not because it led to a misguided war but because it made it harder for his administration to promote the war: It gets better. In that same interview, with Crowley not even daring to challenge him, guess who he blames for the whole economic downturn. Deregulation proponents like himself? Big CEO's on Wall Street doing the same shady deals that they usually do, and not doing a damn thing to stop it after being forewarned...
