Photo from CBS And the news just keeps on coming, as Charlie Rangel has cut a deal to avoid an ethics probe : New York Congressman Charles Rangel has reportedly cut a deal to admit to ethical wrongdoing and avoid a potentially humiliating public trial. Harlem friends of Rangel tell CBS 2 they have been told that the details could be unveiled when the House Ethics Committee meets Thursday afternoon. It's the culmination of two years of scandal for the 20-term Democratic lawmaker. At issue is whether the former head of the House Ways and Means committee will admit to any serious ethical wrongdoing. Rangel is being charged with misusing his office for fundraising, failure to disclose income, belated payment of taxes and possible help with a tax shelter for a company whose chief executive was a major donor. Council voted 11-2 in favor of same-sex marriage in the District Tuesday afternoon. It was the second of two required votes on the bill. Mayor Adrian Fenty has said he will sign the bill. The historic vote is of particular importance because it puts the same-sex marriage issue in front of Congress. Same-sex marriages would begin in the city as soon as the bill passes a period of Congressional review. Congress is not expected to alter the law. New Jersey, let's get on it with it before Christe comes into office and ends those hopes there.

The Associated Press have reported that instead of someone killing this man, he killed himself A Kentucky census worker found naked, bound with duct tape and hanging from a tree with “fed” scrawled on his chest killed himself but staged his death to make it look like a homicide, authorities said Tuesday. Bill Sparkman, 51, was found Sept. 12 near a cemetery in a heavily wooded area of southeastern Kentucky. A man who found the body in the Daniel Boone National Forest has said Sparkman also was gagged and had an identification badge taped to his neck. Many, including myself, strongly speculated about whether anti-government forces killed this man. Instead, those vibes were proven wrong here. And hopefully there will be those who felt that same feeling I did to fess up and show more caution next time.

Really Democratic senators that should be following their party line to just allow a vote on a Democratic bill should be standard news. Sen. Ben Nelson announced Friday he will vote for a cloture motion Saturday that clears the way for Senate debate on health care reform. Nelson, a centrist Democrat who holds one of the key votes required to prevent a Republican filibuster, said the Senate needs to "start trying to fix a health care system that costs too much and delivers too little for Nebraskans." Now he will continue to bask in the attention of slowing rather than "starting to fix" of course.

Awful news just to here on Stafon Johnson, and how dangerous the weight room can be in just a blink of an existence. USC running back Stafon Johnson has been injured in a weight room accident at the school. The senior from Dorsey High was lifting weights this morning when he apparently lost control of the bar and it landed on his neck. He was reportedly spitting up blood and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he is undergoing surgery, according to the USC website. Chris Carlisle, USC's strength and conditioning coach, said such an accident was rare. "I've seen players have the bar slip and fall onto their chest, but never in my 25 years of coaching have I heard of someone dropping a bar on their throat," the coach said. Carlisle, who was within feet of Johnson when the accident occurred, said an assistant strength and conditioning coach was acting as a "spotter" for the player.
