The Whole Delivery

Personally speaking, my #1 track of the 14 from this classic album. No matter the definite drama on if she did write all the lines, from singing throughout and her spittin' on verse 2, this was Lauryn Hill at her PEAK all throughout. And while "Doo Wop" took all the glory and "Ex-Factor" is in current day stories, this fully showed the quality she brought in 98. Every line, both sung or rapped, was tremendous in this one co-produced by Johari Newton. So, it's "Everything in Everything", as the celebration of Lauryn's 20-year classic continues.

It's now time for the 20 year anniversary that is the iconic classic He Got Game, and of course, it's time for the main song/soundtrack that defines it completely. Of course it's Chuck D and Flava Flav, with the underrated Sterling Stills on the title song of the movie's soundtrack. Produced Keith Shocklee, Hank Shocklee and D.R. Period, it's really one of the memorable beats ever for a record. Not overcomplicated, but effectually poignant to combine with Chuck's usual blunt, in depth lines. So, it's the 20th anniversary of Spike Lee's memorable Coney Island basketball tale, and the anniversary for its title song. Enjoy:

It's happy 4/20 day, and because of that, it's only fitting on this Flashback Friday to play the two songs that fittingly go with the vibe the best.  It's of course the legendary track from Afroman, it's "Because I Got High."

In wake of Black Thought once again producing one of the best a cappella freestyles ever in music at HOT 97 on Wednesday, take it back 15 years ago to this still smooth effort from his crew and fellow Philly standout Musiq Soulchild. Besides the two main singles from "Songs in A Minor" debut, this for me is still the best overall track from her. With her and Dirty Harry doing the great crafting of words and beat, this one from a decade ago at this time is still so superb. And it definitely took away from how stale some of her tracks have been since then. This week's first Flashback Friday choice this week is a look back 15 summers ago to the top song that summer. In fact, it truly was the summer of Nelly that year. Both "Dilemma" and "Hot In Here" represented a 14, FOURTEEN, straight week reign at the top of the Billboard charts overall. And it is still Kelly Rowland's biggest single ever. In the end, "Dilemma" spent 10 weeks as #1 and was the biggest hit of 2002, along with Ashanti's "Foolish." Patti LaBelle's own classic "Love, Need and Want You" of course was the sample for this Ryan Browser produced sample. So, your first Flashback Friday choice this week, it's Nelly and Kelly with the 2002 memorable hit, "Dilemma." This is The Whole Delivery.

Sunday will be the 25th anniversary of the Teddy Riley produced "Right Here" for SWV, and the debut single for the classic early 90s R&B group. Now though the remix, sampling Michael Jackson timeless "Human Nature" hit produced by Quincy Jones, was the better song and had much bigger success, this was the introduction of SWV to the world. The rest is history. So, you're second Flashback Friday selection, it's the 25th anniversary of SWV's "Right Here." This is The Whole Delivery. 

15 summers ago, Pusha T and Malice debuted with Pharrell and Chad Hugo making the memorable beat that some of you all banged on cafeteria tables with. And with Virginia obviously in the news over the last week for other insane reasons, this one is a good one always for the state. It's of course "Gridin," the first single for this brotherly duo no longer doing tracks together. Your first Friday Flashback for this week. This is The Whole Delivery.  

Though his career is currently sort of a real mess at the moment, no question that this Baltimore native had some real high points. And though "Let Me Love You" and his first single "Just A Friend" charted much higher than this one, no question in my mind this was his actual best track. All of the views it has on Youtube show why, even if the music video could have always been done much better. But anyway, here is the Stargate superbly produced track from 10 summers ago, "How Do I Breathe," your first Flashback Friday choice this week. This is The Whole Delivery.

As the unfortunate passing of Chester Bennington still hits for many all over, this week's Flashback Fridays is a look back on Linkin Park's peak from their start. It's of course their major hit on their debut album, Hybrid Theory, "In the End." The Whole Delivery will continue. Stay tuned. 

It's the 20th year anniversary of this memorial film that came out in July 2, 2017. And of course, its main song had to be celebrated here. So, your first Flashback Friday choice this week, it's Will The Thrill with "Men In Black", with SWV's Coko on the chorus and the legendary Trackmaster's Pone and Tone on the beat. Believe it or not, Amerie (now her full name Ameriie) is still in the game, and still putting out decent work. She's even finishing up an anthology book. But take it all the way back to when she came into the game, 15 summers ago, with her debut single "Why Don't We Fall in Love," your Friday flashback choice this week. This is The Whole Delivery.

Continuing the focus on Jay-Z's "4:44" release , here is another look back, from a decade ago, with Kingdom Come's underrated nature. It's the lead single to that 9th album from Sir Carter. The Just Blazed produced, with Danica Patrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr featured video, "Show Me What You Got." This The Whole Delivery. 

As the 13th solo album of one Shawn Carter Corey is released today, with him filming the lead single last Friday here on Marcy, here is a look back 20 years ago to his third single of his most underrated album to date, his second album "In My Lifetime, Vo.1." It's the Teddy Riley and Chad Hugo (yup, that Chad Hugo) produced classic with Blackstreet's vocals, "The City is Mine." Jay-Z feat. Blackstreet - The City Is Mine from The CF on Vimeo . As always with what I try to do with The Flashback Fridays, celebrate songs from half a decade to decades ago period, meaning from 2017, a look back primarily on songs from 2007 or 1997 unless for a special reason. So with that said again, it is another flashback to 2007, with the massive song from the late Amy Winehouse that propelled her to stardom here in the United States. Though the original "Rehab" came out in October 2006, it didn't reach American shores until March 2007. The remix with Jay-Z added more terrific popularity to the growing Winehouse wave in the early stages of the 2007 summer. It established the Southgate, London native to a bona fide name in the music game. With star pop beat making Mark Ronson's production, no question this was the full arrival of Amy Winehouse. So, your first Flashback Friday choice this week, it's Amy Winehouse and Jay-Z with "Rehab (Remix)."

This week's Flashback Fridays first choice is another throwback to a decade ago at this time. Take it back to 2007 when 18-year-old Hurricane Chris came on the scene. And though his first single would be the highest point of his "one-hit wonder" career, it still is a memorable (despite being just 28 now). So anyway, it's the Phunk Dawg produced debut (and only) hit from Shreveport, Louisiana native Hurricane Chris, "Ay Bay Bay", your first Friday Flashback song and video this week. Take it back a decade ago, with the album and the single that was the turning point for Ms. Fenty's career. It was the lead single for her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, and she just celebrated the 10th anniversary of her turning point album being released on Instagram a few days ago. And it's only more fitting that this is a Flashback Friday choice this week, with her being at NBA Finals Game 1 and Kevin Durant having to slap down that staredown rumor hard (damn you Robert Littal). Anyway, it's your first of several Flashback Friday choices this week. It's Rihanna and Hov with the Tricky Stewart/TheDream/Kuk Harrell produced classic, "Umbrella."

It's current weird, strange times for these two of late, but today it's a flashback to their second of their 2 big hits during this time period. It's "Ain't It Funny", from J-Lo and Ja Rule, produced by Cory Rooney and Dan Shea, where "It Must Be The......" Flashback Fridays, once again, for you to enjoy. This is The Whole Delivery.

Yes ladies and gentlemen. It is the 10 year anniversary of a song that truly did change the world at the time. Back in 2007 at the time, a 16-year old named DeAndre Way from Atlanta came on the screen and, with his own beat made on Fruit Loops Studio, produced a tone that would later pave the way to international success and recognition for him. Way would go by the name Soulja Boy Tell 'Em, and the rest is history. "Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)" was the dance craze that took over 2007 and has etched itself as one of the most memorable dance song hits of modern times. Of course as we all know, Soulja Boy failed to replicate the highs of his first single at such a precocious age, but has continued to put out some decent tunes from here and there on the hip-hop level. And even though he spends his time more as a Love and Hip-Hop reality star, at just 26, there is still time for Soulja to still regain some prominent shine. So, in a special edition of The Flashback Frida...

This week's first Flashback Friday choice is from this song that got big 10 years ago at this time. It served to be the only hit in their careers, as they have struggled to get any other fame or notoriety since then. Nevertheless, the beat from Jason "Pit" Pittman is so memorable and for that, it deserves a Flashback Friday choice for us all.
