Corporate Bullying Sure Is Wonderful

Some of you maybe familiar with the story of Newton, Massachusetts news reporter Barry Nolan. If not, here is the runthrough on this individual. Two years ago, while working for CN (Comcast) 8 in Boston, Nolan was upset over the New England chapter of the National Academy for Television in Arts and Sciences giving their Governors' Award to Bill O'Reilly at their local Emmys. So justifiably upset was Nolan, that in the buildup to the event, he both privately and publicly voiced his opposition towards the O'Liely one garnering that award. And he pulled no punches back when he labeled him "a mental case." And on the night of the formal tuxedo event, Nolan decided to dress down for the occasion, citing himself that his slacks and a blazer were accordingly enough for him. In addition, the Comcast anchor (at the time) continued in his temerity by passing out flyers of the Fixed Propaganda blowhard's worst comments ever, including the infamous "I just wis...

The Gulf of BP Chronicles Thread #2 For 5/27/10: Well, I Guess No Top Kill Today

After all of that talk and hype, it will have to wait another day : Ugh : HOUSTON — BP had to halt its ambitious effort to plug its stricken oil well in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday afternoon when engineers saw that too much of the drilling fluid they were injecting into the well was escaping along with the leaking crude oil. A technician at the BP command center said that pumping of the fluid had to be stopped temporarily while engineers were revising their plans, and that the company hoped to resume pumping by midnight, if federal officials approved. The technician, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief reporters, said the problem was not seen as serious. "We’re still quite optimistic," he said, but cautioned: "It is not assured and its not a done deal yet. All of this will require some time." Midnight they say is when it will continue.....we shall see.

The Gulf of BP Chronicles Thread #1 For 5/26/10: They Need To Be In Jail Now

Image
Photo from the Associated Press To put their workers in such danger, leading to their death, is already enough of a case for these monsters to be incarcerated now. But added intentional negligence on their part adds to the punishment they should have already received . A shocking memo has revealed that British Petroleum admitted to congressional investigators that their decision to ignore warning signs hours before an oil rig exploded led to the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Tests indicted that something was wrong on the Deepwater Horizon, yet BP made a "fundamental mistake" in continuing operations, according to the memo released by Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) and Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.). Two hours afterwards, the rig exploded, ultimately killing 11 workers. "The data suggests that the crew may have attempted mechanical interventions," the memo said. "But soon after, the flow out and pressure increased dramatically and the explosion took place....

Even If We Did It, It Isn't Our Fault

it's what classy corporations that mess up the environmental and cause serious national security problems do of course. Real seriously problems that go deeper than creating The Gulf of BP. I'm just going to say that whatever I do wrong, I will not be responsible for doing it. I just won't be held accountable for my troubling actions since BP is more than allowed to say they aren't responsible for creating America's Black Sea.

Their Audacity Is Legendary

It truly is amazing how the nadir of people being certified despicable nutcases can be set each and every day. Today's setter of that accomplishment is one accustomed to that task. Those good old people at Halliburton/KBR that have taken a backseat to Blackwater/Xe as the most "evil corporation against humanity in this world" seem to want to take back their mantle. Your WTF story of the day comes from them petitioning the Supreme Court to reverse the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision in ruling in favor of Jaime Leigh Jones not being protected from being horribly gang- raped like she was : But last week, KBR signaled its intention to continue fighting Jones, no matter how bad it makes the company look. On Jan. 19, it petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision allowing Jones to press her case in a civil court rather than in arbitration. Among its many arguments in favor of a high court hearing: that Jones is a relentless se...

The Daily Open Thread #2 For 9/16/09: Colbert, Standing Up For The Oppressed Corporation

I'm glad DDay brought this great point up, because the corporations are so oppressed, it's totally free market exploitation that we just can't get enough of. More to come, as you ponder about whether you want to stand in line with the corporations.
