The Gulf of BP Chronicles Thread #1 For 5/26/10: They Need To Be In Jail Now

To put their workers in such danger, leading to their death, is already enough of a case for these monsters to be incarcerated now. But added intentional negligence on their part adds to the punishment they should have already received .
A shocking memo has revealed that British Petroleum admitted to congressional investigators that their decision to ignore warning signs hours before an oil rig exploded led to the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

Tests indicted that something was wrong on the Deepwater Horizon, yet BP made a "fundamental mistake" in continuing operations, according to the memo released by Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) and Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.).

Two hours afterwards, the rig exploded, ultimately killing 11 workers.

"The data suggests that the crew may have attempted mechanical interventions," the memo said. "But soon after, the flow out and pressure increased dramatically and the explosion took place."
I just can't stop harboring back to what Duncan Black said a few days ago on what the Obama Administration should be saying on this whole episode of Big Oil not giving a you know what:
More than that, someone needs to get on the teevee and point out that no, it is not ok for any actor - state, big corporation, or terrorist - to destroy the coastlines and economies of several states. You don't just get to say 'woopsy' and move on. Gigantic fuckups need to have consequences for the perpetrators, even though these days that seems like an amusing notion.
These people just don't give a damn because they know that despite all the public castigation they are currently enduring (and will endure so more), at the end of the tunnel they will return to their regular lives of doing whatever out of control insanity they usually do thanks to just getting a simple "slap on the wrist."

Something like this just cannot be tolerated AT ALL. The outright neglect to ignore doing the right thing (at the behest of the safety of their now perished workers) is a testament to how emboldened they are with their power, fully believing that they won't be held accountable for their idiotic and pestilent risks.

In a sane world, BP executives would be in hand cuffs right now, handed for a long, long period behind bars. But we are as far from a sane world as Rand Paul is to having a black friend.

But this latest disturbing news out of "The Gulf of BP Chronicles" led me back to one tweet yesterday from the invaluable lady that is Lizz Winstead, and how she perfectly captures the frustration of the times like she always does.
So real, that it almost inclined me to wish that they do get "Oil Boarded" down the line. But most likely, we shall be seeing is them gladly focusing on their profits again and whatever fuel deals they have with our military forces.
