Photo from Getty Image No question about it. What Usain Bolt has done tonight was arguably, for me, one of the greatest things I have ever seen in sports. Probably in my lifetime. It is just unbelievable. Coming into this final, Michael Johnson and Ato Bolton doubted (as did I and many) that he would not break his 200 meter record because of just looking gassed Usain Bolt will not break his 200 metres world record later on Thursday, American legend Michael Johnson said. Johnson, who is here at the world championships commentating for the BBC, said that the 22-year-old Jamaican, who won the 100m world title in a world record of 9.58sec on Sunday, was showing signs of fatigue. "His exertions this week have taken a lot out of him," said Johnson, whose 200m world record was broken by Bolt in Beijing last year in the Olympic final when the Jamaican ran 19.30sec. "He's also been very busy and he looks tired. It is certainly less possible than it was a few nights ago. Also...

Sports Thread #1 For 8/17/09: In Shocker, Yelena Isinbayeva Doesn't Even Model In The Pole Vault

Image
Photo from AFP/GettyImages Oliver Morin It was fascinating and slightly stunningly for Usain Bolt to run 9.58 yesterday. But it was absolutely shocking for Yelena Isinbayeva to do anything but win the event that has made her an international starlet outside the track. That actually happened today, and the aftershock is still stinging her, her fans, and the rest of the athletic community. In the pole vault finals, the Russian superstar looked more than just ordinary in what has made her arguably the most dominant athlete on the planet. In fact, she looked absolutely awful. Isinbayeva failed to clear a single height on this night in Berlin, leaving the gold medal to Poland's and Athens' 2004 sliver medalist Anna Rogowska. Young American Chelsea Johnson took bronze as Poland took the top two models with Monica Pyrek getting the runner up to her countrywoman. Those three fine performances by Rogowska, Pyrek, and Johnson themselves however were a clear second fiddle to the stunning ...

Sports Sunday Thread #1: IAAF World Champions 2009- The Greatness of Usain Bolt Once Again

Oh my God (literally, to the sky I say it to HIM) In Sprint Car, Brian Vickers will win in the Carflax 400.......fuel mileage at Michigan again, but no question, Vickers was fast all weekend. Started from the pole and a clutch win to stay well alive in the Chase. At the PGA Championships, W.E. Yang is leading, LEADING, Tiger Woods after the 15th hole by one. Amazing stuff. This guy, Wang, played on the qualifying level last year, and is now in the big leagues outdueling arguably the greatest golfer ever. Again, Bolt world record with the british commentators.
