The Gulf of BP Chronicles For 9/13/10: It Dissipated And Disappeared All The Way To The Bottom!

Image
Look at one some folks found ! Scientists on a research vessel in the Gulf of Mexico are finding a substantial layer of oily sediment stretching for dozens of miles in all directions. Their discovery suggests that a lot of oil from the Deepwater Horizon didn't simply evaporate or dissipate into the water — it has settled to the seafloor. The Research Vessel Oceanus sailed on Aug. 21 on a mission to figure out what happened to the more than 4 million barrels of oil that gushed into the water. Onboard, Samantha Joye, a professor in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Georgia, says she suddenly has a pretty good idea about where a lot of it ended up. It's showing up in samples of the seafloor, between the well site and the coast. "I've collected literally hundreds of sediment cores from the Gulf of Mexico, including around this area. And I've never seen anything like this," she said in an interview via satellite phone from the boat. But ...

The Chronicles of BP For 6/15/10: They Even Made Bart Stupak Look Good

I think another part of the punishment for them is to pay Bart Stupak's rent at K-Street: Key sad quote: TILLERSON: The answer to that is that when these things happen, we are not well-equipped to deal with them ... It's the scenario that the MMS and the Coast Guard require us to calculate using their methodologies and that's why it's in there. But to your point, and I think that's all that matters is, the point is, we have to take every step to prevent these things from happening because when they happen, it is a fact that we're not well equipped to prevent any and all damage ... but there is no response capability that will guarantee you will never have an impact. It does not exist and it probably will never exist. THEY EVEN MADE BART STUPAK LOOK GOOD! Just think about that sentence for a second.

Mr. Truck Cosmo Guy Thinks The EPA Is A Non-Government Agency

Image
I guess he didn't talk this one over with his truck : Though he’s considered a potential swing vote on future clean energy legislation and was facing pressure to help block the action, Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) voted in favor of Murkowski’s resolution. In a Cape Cod Times op-ed yesterday, Brown defended his position by claiming that “this action would give an unelected and unaccountable government agency the power to impose restrictive and damaging carbon dioxide regulations that will drive up energy prices and hurt job-creating small businesses in our country.” Brown took a different position, however, on a local right-wing radio show, claiming that “a non-governmental agency” would be empowered: CARR: They’ve been, they’ve been advertising, as you probably know, all over the radio and TV, you know, demanding, the liberals, the moonbats, that you vote for this thing. How do you explain your vote against it? BROWN: Well, I’m looking out for jobs and jobs in Massachusetts and...

The House Of Lords For 6/10/10: They Like To Be Republicans Sometimes It Seems

Image
Photo from AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite So pathetic, even if it failed : The Murkowski resolution of disapproval of the EPA's regulation of greenhouses gasses failed today, 47-53. Blanche Lincoln voted for Murkowski's resolution, the resolution President Obama had vowed to veto, should it pass. Lincoln was joined, surprise, by Evan Bayh, Mark Pryor, Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu, and Jay Rockefeller. So did those great Republican moderates, Snowe, Collins, and Scott Brown. And so it goes. Rockefeller too, showing how much of a fraud he is. Just another day in The House of Lords.

The Straight Jacket Award For 6/2/10: She Wants Her Throne Back

Image
She's a liar everyday, every second, and a nutcase every single time. Nevertheless, she has won this title in a long time, so she definitely deserved it for how desperate she always is to say everything and hope it sticks. It's always funny to see : We may have made a great discovery here. She has found a set of people she hates more than Levi Johnson. And for that dramatic discovery, she retains a long overdue....... ....Straight Jacket Award!

Spill, Baby, Spill!

Image
This early in this month from our current President, as reminded to us by Mr. Moulitsas : Ooops. I guess he forgot to say "except when BP conducts them." Let this whole week forever be a reminder with how unnecessarily stupid an idea that Obama Administration made by trying to be centrist by opening up the option to expand offshore drilling. This is what happens when being centrist can cause bad ideas instead of doing the obvious common sensical right thing. Now David Axelrod (Obama's advisor for those who still somehow don't know) said this morning that BP won't be drilling anymore until they know more about the spill. So despite all of this, BP may drill yet again? If that's the case, then may I recommend the Mississippi River for you BP! I might as well recommend that since you somehow haven't been banned from ever drilling again despite ruining numbers of lives along with the environment because of your wonderful spill. Now can you ...

Music Thread #1 for 7/28/09: Timberlake......And Politics....And Golf Course.....And Eco-Friendly In One? Yup

Image
Yeah, it stunned me too. But it was a pleasant surprise When you think green celebrities, Justin Timberlake probably isn't the first to come to mind. Although he made a donation to a wildlife group founded by Steve Irwin, the boy band icon has not been particularly active in philanthropy or politics. Read more: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/green/detail?entry_id=44340#ixzz0MbDqoySq But Timberlake is an avid golfer, and he purchased a course in his native Memphis to save it from developers, seemingly unaware that he was about to become the driving force behind the first green golf course in the United States. "After we had the golf course, we said why don't we refurbish it and make it even nicer for the community. Then I asked questions about what we could possibly do, and we found out we could actually make it a 'green course,'" Timberlake said. As mentioned in the article, golf courses are among the least eco-friendly things out there, thanks to the tr...
