The Thread For 2/10/14 (First Version): Cantwell to NFL, Redskins - EIther Change The Name or Possibly Lose Your Tax Breaks

Image
Maria Cantwell showed no signs of wavering from ordering Daniel Snyder and Roger Goodell to get rid of the Redskins' name in a really great talk with her former "employee" Ari Melber and the rest of The Cycle today. Cantwell is the first Congressional figure to possibly force the NFL to get rid of the name or face the consequence of losing its absurd tax-exempt status. It really was a great talk with the Washington senator, who has served on the Indian Affairs Committee for years, talked with great strength against a powerful enemy like the NFL. Cantwell and Oklahoma Republican Rep. Tom Cole wrote a terrific letter that was inspired after Goodell went full steam ahead at the Super Bowl with how Synder and the league will keep the name. It really was quite wonderful, and refreshing to see. Hope this leads to both the name being gone and the NFL losing their tax exempt status for good. More to come in this thread, in a bit. Stay tuned at The Whole Delivery. ...

The Break/Sports Thread #1 For 4/21/10: Ben Roethlisberger Has Been Suspended For At Least Four Games (Now It's Officially Six Games)

Image
Roger Goddell has reportedly suspended Ben Roethlisberger for at least four games and maybe up until 6 games for the start of next year's NFL season. Now the details of the suspension will come in full, but it could be reduced based on good behavior. Does that mean it will be two or not is in the details and only Goddell's head. Updated : Now it's officially six games ladies and gentlemen .

Sports Thread #3 For 9/3/09: Vick Reinstated By Week 3

Image
I can't believe I'm saying this, but a really good move by Roger Goodell. More on the developments, but there is no other developments needed. The NFL would look more hypocritical than it already is if they continued to make money off of Vick's jerseys (especially those bizarre asinine dog jerseys) while suspending the former Falcon quarterback. So why even risk such a thing.

Sports Thread #2 For 9/1/09: Why The NFL Really Doesn't Care About Its Fans At Days End

Image
Because damnit, if you aren't going to go to our games, then we aren't going to let you see your teams. Roger Goodell says it'll be a challenge for the Jacksonville Jaguars and some other clubs to avoid television blackouts this season. The NFL commissioner visited the Washington Redskins players and coaches. Speaking about the Jaguars, who the Redskins play on the road Thursday in their final preseason game, Goodell said the club is "one of the markets where we're seeing some challenges from ticket sales coming into the 2009 season." Yeah, some thing with the economy may be a reason and all Goodell said the league has been working with clubs to find more creative ways to entice fans to the games during the economic downturn. Yes, creative ways in order for him to end these potential local blackouts to these teams and their fans. Their fans who have nothing to do with this negatively, who still love their teams but will get punished because Goodell and his b...

Sports Thread #1 for 7/9/09: NFL Bans Twitter Usage During Games

Image
Roger Goodell and company were scared of Twitter the minute Chad Ocho Cinco said he was going to use it in halftime. They made sure that would not happen, based on. ..... "We already have a rule that prohibits the use of cell phones or other handheld devices in the bench area during games," Aiello told us via e-mail. Yes, but the league will be very quick to use Twitter to help continue to get its profits. Now the whole betting thing is the main reason why this was slapped down, as well as the cell phones and other devices. And Goodell and the league was not going to let that even come into play at all.

Sports Thread #1 for 10/14/08- You Call This A Suspension, Roger Goodell?

Image
Mark J. Rebilas / US PRESSWIRE Unlike ESPN's Mike Mosley, who is leaping praise on NFL Comissioner Roger Goodell for indefinitely suspending Adam Jones when Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones didn't do a single thing, I don't hold the same sentiment. In fact, if Goodell told Adam Jones last year that this would be his last straw if he does anything wrong in this league, for good, then why the hell do you only suspend him indefinitely, which is actually just four games? Four games for the man who you shaped into a mindset and belief that if he gets into any trouble, or violates his promise to you, that he would be gone for good? Instead, you go ahead and suspend him actually just four games, where he has the chance to actually come back? There will be more on this tomorrow, because Goodell didn't lay the hammer down here when he should have.Because "no tolerance" was suppose to mean "no tolerance", if Jones did something that he wasn't suppose ...
