The Saturday 1st Thread (Very Late Edition) For 8/21/10: With A Special Edition

Very late edition, but still here: Luda.... With Al Franken continuing the fight against those who threaten democracy online : Franken had choice words for this plan, none of them good. Google and Verizon's scheme empowers the FCC to, "get this—'publish a report'," he dryly commented, while his audience laughed again. "But there's an even bigger issue here. It's that when government will not act, corporations will. And unlike government agencies, which have a legal responsibility to protect American consumers, the only thing corporations care about, the only thing that they have a legal duty to promote, is their bottom line." "We can't let companies write the rules that they're supposed to follow," Franken added, "because if that happens those rules are going to be written only to protect corporations." .....And De La Soul:

The Other Deliveries Report For 7/26/10: Michele Steele Loves Himself Some Good Old Breitbart!

Image
I guess Michael Steele doesn't mind having Andrew Breitbart be apart of his fund raising event : Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has a party fundraising event coming up in August that is scheduled to feature a very special guest: Conservative media activist Andrew Breitbart, according to a copy of the invitation exclusively obtained by TPM. The fundraising event, billed as an "Election Countdown," will take place from August 12-14 in Beverly Hills, California, and will also feature other politicians such as California Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, and Nevada Republican gubernatorial nominee Brian Sandoval. Steele and Breitbart are scheduled to co-headline a welcome reception on the first evening, August 12. He is just addicted to being a laughingstock, isn't he? Despite how much Freightfart has further reduced himself to the thought of being associated with him is unconscionable, Steele has no second thoughts of removing hi...

Yesterday Leftovers For 3/24/10: From A Big Al Franken Win, To The Author Of "Baby Killer" Being Proud Of It

Image
Thanks to Al Franken, Dick Cheney's thugs back down : The high-profile case of Jamie Leigh Jones, a Halliburton/KBR employee who claims she was raped by co-workers in a barracks in Iraq in 2005, won't be considered by the Supreme Court -- at least for now. Lawyers for KBR, who had sought to force her complaint into arbitration as called for by her employment contract rather than being resolved in federal court, withdrew the company's petition for high court review on March 11. KBR invoked the Court's Rule 46, which does not require any explanation for withdrawing a case if both sides consent. Parties often withdraw petitions before the Court acts if the case has been settled. But John Vail, lawyer for Jones, said today, "There is not a settlement," and he expects some of her claims to go to trial in federal court May 2011. Vail is vice president and senior litigation counsel at the Center for Constitutional Litigation in D.C. Instead, Vail said he believes...

Defense Appropriations Act, With Franken Anti-Rape Amendment, Is Signed By Obama

Image
May rapists advocates be angry at this : The White House Press Office sent out a statement today announcing that President Obama signed the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2010 into law on Saturday: H.R. 3326, the “Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2010,” which provides FY 2010 appropriations for Department of Defense (DOD) military programs including funding for Overseas Contingency Operations, and extends various expiring authorities and other non-defense FY 2010 appropriations. Within the Appropriations Act is Sen. Al Franken’s (D-MN) amendment prohibiting defense contractors from restricting their employees’ abilities to take workplace discrimination, battery, and sexual assault cases to court. And yet, expect the likes of O'Lielly to be angry that Franken's amendment made it's way through at the end.

Amnesia! McCain Did What Franken Did In 2002

Image
2008 was the year in which I thought John McCain's hypocrisy could not transcend to a higher level. With all the filth and reversals that the "worst candidate in Presidential history" offered to the nation, I thought maybe in the following year he would scale back on how embarrassing his behavior and comments were to his long shaky image of supposedly being "Mr. Straight Talk". But today, in another classic job of muckracking from the terrific Faiz Shakir, McCain's cries of Al Franken breaking the decorum of the Senate for interrupting his pal, "The Guy Scared Of Rachel Maddow", by following the Senate rules, rings even more hallow then it did yesterday. The reason why? We'll, because he did exactly want Franken did seven years ago . Unfortunately, McCain’s memory is suffering. In fact, McCain has engaged in the very same behavior that he was criticizing Franken for yesterday. On October 10, 2002 — just ahead of the looming mid-term elections —...

The Daily Open Thread #2 For 12/17/09: Two Of My Favorite Moments Of The Day

First, everyone's most favorite moment of the day: May Jay Rockefeller proceed to tell Al Franken "to grow up" after this. I sure knew McCain did. And Lieberman may now demand that Al Franken not be able to vote on health care after that one. Second, and almost as good, was how Ms. Jane handled her good old pal and favorite snakeman, Lanny Davis. Oh was it lovely too. Now Davis tries to bring up Jane's past with that "blackface" thing in 06 for Lieberman, which was a mistake in the past that she has admitted to plenty of times. That's over. But Davis as always is a shill, a liar, and wouldn't admit how he was speaking for the drug companies. And boy, it was great to see Jane, and Ed, pin him on that. More to come everyone.

Department Of Defense Encouraged A "No" Vote On The Amendment Bill

Image
Two weeks ago, everyone had a field day on the Sad Obnoxious Party becoming " The Raping Party " for mostly voting "No" (outside of the female Republican Senators obviously) against the Al Franken contractors-related employee abuse amendment. That amendment would required defense contractors to allow their employees access to U.S. courts in cases of rape or sexual assault if signed by the President after being merged with the House bill (oh what fun that will be to see those in the House voting against that). Well, encouraging ALL senators to say "No" to such an amendment on the day of the vote was none other than the........Department of Defense. The reason why the Department of Defense took the risk at being called "The Department that doesn't mind rape at all" and joining "The Raping Party?" Get this : "The Department of Defense, the prime contractor, and higher tier subcontractors may not be in a position to know about suc...

Stop Calling Others Clowns, Clown

Image
He's the one who needs to be in the circus Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) extended a nasty welcome to his newest Senate colleague, Al Franken, last week, telling the Tulsa World, “I’ll tell you what a lot of people are thinking, and that is it looks like things are going to be over and we are going to get the clown from Minnesota. … I don’t know the guy, but…for a living he is a clown.” Inhofe is now rushing to defend himself, pointing out that he and Franken “physically embraced” when they ran into each other on Tuesday. However, he still insists that Franken is a “clown”: But believe me, he knew. He kind of looked like a clown when I was talking to him,” Inhofe said. Thankfully, Franken had the perfect response back: “I don’t know how Sen. Inhofe regards clowns, but it might be an incredible compliment.” Lovely .

On A Much Lighter Note........

Your newest Senator And Republicans stupid video: As Keith Olbermann said tonight, Norm Coleman used the same video in his campaign against Franken, and lost. Only that party would do such a silly thing.

Another Memorable Headline From TPM

Image
Thank you for C-SPAN indeed. Well, O'Lielly can you know what on this. I'll let you guess of course.

I Guess O'Liely Meant To Say "Loofah America"

A jealous and bitter loser is who he is, I guess. I just can't give Al Franken a bigger high five if I could right now.

Franken's Still Funny Because He "Lost His Sense Of Humor"

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News , World News , and News about the Economy I heard Franken wasn't unbelievably funny on SNL, but who cares. He gave a perfect answer to how Meredith Vieria wanted to start something with that opening question.

The Daily Open Thread For 7/2/09: Fixed Propaganda Pissed Over Franken Win

More to come.....peace.

Finally!!!!!!.............Hopefully For Al Franken

Via Atrios , let's hope so for Minnesota and this nation PIM has now heard from two sources on different sides of the Minnesota U.S. Senate race recount scene that the final Minnesota Supreme Court ruling is expected to arrive tomorrow, Thursday, June 18th. The ruling could arrive between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., a shift from the earlier deadline of 5 p.m. I wonder what the sore loser has to say about this.

He Just Won't Let It Go

Image
Original photo from USA Today The sore loser continues to be a sore loser : Norm Coleman makes it official: He's going to sue to keep his seat. And here he is, just not letting how stupid he looks for continuing this go.

1/6/09- TWD's Agenda For The Day: Sore Losers Still Remain Sore Losers

Image
Photo from TPM For those of who still in the blue with this Minnesota Senate race and what is going on, well, it is another sad example of the conservative media and Republicans not moving on for the sake of the country. It's really embarrassing with how petty they are. Al Franken has won this contest. Hell, even the passive Henry Reid has stated that Coleman needs to give this up. Sadly, not only is Coleman in petty denial, but so are the conservative television all stars. From yesterday, here's MSNBC Joe Scarborough making himself look like a fool again, citing a one-sided, nutty Wall Street Journal editorial that Josh Marshall handily exposes : Not wanting to miss out on the fun is nutcase Rush Limabuagh, ranting ridiculously (as always) that Franken somehow stole the election. Petty and stupid: When will these people grow up. The agenda's Pending Schedule is back for 2009, and will be up at 2:05. Peace.

Early Christmas Gift To Franken, A Lump of Coal To Coleman, And A Perfect Pic From TPM On This

Image
Look at Talking Point Memo's great pic up on its site as this thread is getting posted. Just look right below. The pic says it all. It looks to be Al Franken Senate seat for Minnesota now, as it has been revealed that the Minnesota Supreme Court has slapped down Norm Coleman's lawsuit of alleged doubled counted ballots in their never ending, until maybe now, battle. A sweet Christmas gift for sure for Al Franken. And "Bah Humburgness" indeed for the incumbent Coleman.

Hard to Stomach (Minnesota Senate Race An Example of A Still Terrible Voting System)

This video really shows how, despite the history of November 4th, I wouldn't call anyone crazy who thought that the night still failed. Especially for these unfortunate individuals, including the paraplegic man.
