Music Midday Energy Boost For 1/6/15: Def Loaf - Try Me (2014)

Image
This is serving as the current inform, smooth song in the urban black young world still admired by the rest of the planet's youth, despite depicting images that would make kids outside America's hoods (including American suburban kids) not want to admire those hoods. It's from Detroit's latest figure to make a dent in the game, and it's actually a female. It's "Try Me" from Def Loaf, mixing a serene beat with hard lyrics from Motown (and Michigan in general) 'hoods. Most people thought it was another annoying guy using autotune or a teenage boy in the mode of Rae Sremmurd. I was one of those people when I heard it being played in the club last month as it gained steady momentum. Instead, what makes this song more intriguing is Loaf being, again, a female. Though she's pointing a gun and hosting a set of bullets on her kitchen table, I'm not too bothered this time by those still hood images that most should avoid. The reason why is

The Flashback Fridays #1 For 10/18/13: Blaque feat NSync - Bring It All To Me (1999)

Image
The funny thing about this song is that it technically featured N'Sync, and specifically, JC Chasez, since he was the only one who even had anything to deal with the song from LeftEye's group. Although he was nowhere to be found in the video or song besides maybe the songwriting. Okay, he was in this version , but not in the video's version.  Actually, it was a good move that he wasn't in the song, since it was kind of awkward for him to say "His thug appeal." Blaque's version by themselves is a lot better, and Vevo really does need to take that off (the 'featuring NSync's label) so more people won't be confused. The page views are not worth the embarrassment. Then again, Vevo is incompetent in the first place as we all know. Your first Flashback Friday choice at The Whole Delivery this week, and hopefully, for many more.

The Flashback Fridays Music Thread #1 For 10/11/13: Xscape- Just Kickin' It (1993)

Image
20 years ago, So So Def Records took off in Atlanta, Georgia, and this is one of those timeless songs in all of R&B and American music despite it being so underrated. A true Georgia classic, the return of Flashback Fridays at The Whole Delivery, it's Xscape with their greatest hit "Just Kickin' It." Amazingly, this song only reached #2 on the Billboard's Top 100 charts despite it's global and long term appeal. The laid-back, Georgia ride still kicks to this day. And it's great to once again have it as a Flashback Friday selection. More to come on the return of The Whole Delivery, in a bit.

Music Thread #2 for 10/20/08- Louis Vutton and Gucci Stop T.I In His Tracks; Don Cornelius Arrested

Image
(Photo from museum.tv)Here's an old school pic of TV icon Don Cornelius, who is in a little trouble with the law Just two quick posts for the night in the music world. When will rappers learn that Gucci and Louis Vutton really don't give a damn about them. Here's the latest example: Although many news outlets reported T.I.'s next single be "Swing Ya Rag," the clip never made it on major television networks. That left fans asking about the video. Recently, Tip spoke openly about the video controversy and more on what fans can still expect from Paper Trail. It seems Louis Vuitton and Gucci were not happy to have their product featured in the video. "We did it, and it came out hot," T.I. told MTV. "Louis [Vuitton] and Gucci started trippin' about it. They were saying we were infringing, in one way or another. They weren't happy about it. They didn't want it to come out. But it's hot, though." As someone said over at DX, it see

Music Thread #1 for 10/20/08- The New Videos (Another Chris Brown Duet Video; Alicia Keys Mediocre Bond Video; Could Trading Places Help Usher?)

First Music Thread Dedicated to new videos. And all are from prominent R&B artist. One is decent, one is ehhhhhhhhhh, and the last one is surprisingly good, and very necessary for that last artist and his struggling album. First, here's another Chris Brown duet with a chick. This time, It's Keri Hilson in the nice, if not cliche, "Superhuman." Then, not the best effort from Alicia Keys, as she teams up with Jack White to create the new Bond song for the new movie coming out. Sadly, it is just a total force. Her vocals sound so weird on this song, and it just fails in my view. Finally, Usher gets a much needed good video, thought it is the typical run of the mill R&B video. Here's "Trading Places." This video could help his massively disappointing album sales. Or maybe not. Another music thread, with news, will come later. For now, Peace!

Music Thread #2 for 10/17/08: The Flashbacks #2- Janet Jackson ("Rhythm Nation")

The perfect video and song at this state of the game, especially with this election. From 1989, the classic from Ms. Janet Jackson herself, here's "Rhythm Nation." People of the world today Are we looking for a better way of life We are a part of the Rhythm Nation People of the world unite Strength in numbers we can get it right One time We are apart of the Rhythm Nation The Flashbacks, every Friday at The Whole Delivery.

Music Thread #1 for 10/17/08: The Flashbacks #1- Ghostface Killah feat Mary J Blige ("All That I Got is You")

The Sleep Time and Rise "n" Shine Thread for 10/14-15/08 (And Music Thread #2 for 10/14/08)- The Limited Beyonce Tv Network on TWD

Now my friend Tiffany (and all Beyonce' fans) is going to kill me for this one, but I'm going to say it for the first time here on The Whole Delivery: I'm not particularly fond of Beyonce'. Now I definitely respect her. and no one can say she isn't as diligent as anybody else in the game. And being spoused up with one of my favorite rappers who, unlike what most critics think, still has not fallen off in Jay-Z helps in the matter of coming nowhere near the animosity some hold for this woman. Nevertheless, there are several reasons why I don't jump for joy over seeing anything new from Ms.Knowles like that. I'm just being honesty. But since we try and give the whole delivery here at "The Whole Delivery", we must acknowledge the fact that renowned figurehead that is "B" has two new videos out now that premiere over the weekend for her upcoming third solo album, "I am." (Seriously, who has not named their album that title, how or

Music Thread #1 for 10/14/08- Madonna Has Some Harsh Words For Palin

Image
Once again, I apologize for not posting a music news thread in a few days. Times get hectic, and that has been the case recently. In fact, it has always been the case, but you catch my drift. Anyway, here is the first of two news threads in the music world today (I promise there will be two). (Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images ) Haha, those Philly fans on Saturday will have a hard time beating Madonna in having the most disgust for Sarah Palin in this country (outside of Alaska and Walt Monegan of course). This is too hilarious : Madonna first banned the governor from the tour. In between sets, she screamed, "Sarah Palin can't come to my party! Sarah Palin can't come to my show!" As the week progressed, Madonna even threatened to "kick her ass." HAHAHAHAHAHA. Maybe the label was so freaked out that they had to say something to the material girl. "It's a metaphor," she said. "She's in the Republican Party, I'm in the Democratic P

Music Thread #2 for 10/10-11/08: The Flashback #2- Telvin Campbell featuring Quincy Jones ("Tomorrow")

Image
Before Telvin Campbell was this sort of weird looking guy who really no on knows about now...... Photo from Tinypic.com ......He was this: A 12 year old boy who had one of the best young voices of all time. To me, seriously, it was on some Michael Jackson type elite status of precociousness. He was that good, that young, and it is a total shame that his career really never amassed to anything legit. No one outside of MJ had anything on this dude as a kid. Immature didn't. Sammie fell off harder than that apple that hit Sir Issac Newton in the head. Usher was a little into his adolescence to really be a "child" star. The same with the wreck that became of B2K. And Chris Brown was 16, which would make him an elder statesmen. (Plus, when you have a song written for you like "Run It", it is not really meant to hit on a deep, personal level.") Only Telvin Campbell really brought that child innocence and vigor into a song, and that is certainly the case with one
