The 1st Thread For 8/27/10: Your Postracial Society Happily Continues

Image
Little colored boy and girl, you are too dark to be our middle school class President , even in the year 2010 of our first black President. Another great moment in "post racial America", brought to you by the state of Mississippi and this school titled Nettleton Middle School. Thankfully, the long time policy had the needed change . A needed change deep in our "post racial society."

The Friday Fun Thread For 8/20/10 (Special Edition): The End Of A (Blogging Era)

Image
One of the most synonymous bloggers in the rational news online era (the rise of the left blogopshere) has been the always delightful Amanda Terkel. One of many key figures as to why Think Progress has become one of the most powerful news sites on all the net, Ms. Terkel is just a person who, unless you are an Bill O'Liely creepy stalker lackey, is so likable for her assiduity and her warm personality. So news of her announcing her final day at Think Progress just a while ago is certainly something that came right out of the blue . Wherever Ms. Terkel goes to next, hopefully she'll continue being one of the premiere blogging reporters in all of the Internet land. Unless of course, that leads to the Television set as well. Until then, I am just as sadden as those at the Center for American Progress that she has to go. Because they sure know that she was just as special as, if not more than, her reporting. Much love to you Amanda. And from The Whole Delivery, God bl...

The Other Deliveries Thread For 7/29/10 (Final Edition): The ACLU's Powerful Video That Jan Brewer Needs To Probably See

This is a wonderful and powerful effort from the ACLU indeed : More Deliveries : Did you happen to see this wonderful news letter that MoveOn sent out to all of its viewers in the continue "Defense of Social Security" campaign. Via the always delightful Digby, this letter just is a COMPLETE WIN as it can get. It features 5 key myth busting facts to those who hate just helping their fellow American citizens, including... Myth: Social Security is going broke. Reality: There is no Social Security crisis. By 2023, Social Security will have a $4.3 trillion surplus (yes, trillion with a 'T'). It can pay out all scheduled benefits for the next quarter-century with no changes whatsoever.1 After 2037, it'll still be able to pay out 75% of scheduled benefits--and again, that's without any changes. The program started preparing for the Baby Boomers retirement decades ago.2 Anyone who insists Social Security is broke probably wants to break it themselves. It ...

The Other Deliveries Report For 7/26/10: Michele Steele Loves Himself Some Good Old Breitbart!

Image
I guess Michael Steele doesn't mind having Andrew Breitbart be apart of his fund raising event : Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has a party fundraising event coming up in August that is scheduled to feature a very special guest: Conservative media activist Andrew Breitbart, according to a copy of the invitation exclusively obtained by TPM. The fundraising event, billed as an "Election Countdown," will take place from August 12-14 in Beverly Hills, California, and will also feature other politicians such as California Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, and Nevada Republican gubernatorial nominee Brian Sandoval. Steele and Breitbart are scheduled to co-headline a welcome reception on the first evening, August 12. He is just addicted to being a laughingstock, isn't he? Despite how much Freightfart has further reduced himself to the thought of being associated with him is unconscionable, Steele has no second thoughts of removing hi...

Mr. Truck Cosmo Guy Thinks The EPA Is A Non-Government Agency

Image
I guess he didn't talk this one over with his truck : Though he’s considered a potential swing vote on future clean energy legislation and was facing pressure to help block the action, Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) voted in favor of Murkowski’s resolution. In a Cape Cod Times op-ed yesterday, Brown defended his position by claiming that “this action would give an unelected and unaccountable government agency the power to impose restrictive and damaging carbon dioxide regulations that will drive up energy prices and hurt job-creating small businesses in our country.” Brown took a different position, however, on a local right-wing radio show, claiming that “a non-governmental agency” would be empowered: CARR: They’ve been, they’ve been advertising, as you probably know, all over the radio and TV, you know, demanding, the liberals, the moonbats, that you vote for this thing. How do you explain your vote against it? BROWN: Well, I’m looking out for jobs and jobs in Massachusetts and...

The Sleep Time And Rise "n" Shine Thread For 5/19-20/10: Another Highlight From The Steele One

This slapdown from Cavuto today was too funny : Too classic. To Tevin, and onto May 20:

Our Post Racial America

Image
Today's wonderful edition : The San Antonio News reports that a Jefferson High School English teacher has been “removed from the classroom” for singling out a Latino student wearing a Mexican soccer jersey and publicly insulting him. According to the student, Augustine Ortiz, what began as a discussion about Arizona’s new immigration law (SB-1070) escalated to an anti-Latino, racist attack: Ortiz, who was wearing a jersey from a Mexican soccer team, said the teacher told him to sit in the front row. She proceeded to single him out repeatedly, Ortiz said, pointing at him as she made comments like, “The Mexicans with their attitudes are the racist ones.” Continuing to point at Ortiz, she allegedly told the class that Mexicans always “expect handouts” and “soon it’s going to be the United States of Mexico,” according to Ortiz. [...] Most be part of that new Texas curriculum. That curriculum will probably included how California also includes the Baja part that's suppose to...

The Straight Jacket Award Of The Day For 5/12/10: King Of This Award

Image
Iowa's Steven King is always a contender for this award, but has not won it in such a long time shockingly. But no question today, you fans of this nutcase guy need no worry about him getting his rightful award. Here is the latest highlight from this Straight Jacket Hall of Famer......He's kind of hates gay people : KING: And he said, “let me ask you a question.” “Am I heterosexual or am I homosexual?” And they looked him up and down, actually they should have known, but they said, “We don’t know.” And he said, “Exactly, my point. If you don’t project it, if you don’t advertise it, how would anyone know to discriminate against you?” And that’s at the basis of this. So if people wear their sexuality on their sleeve and then they want to bring litigation against someone that they would point their finger at and say, “You discriminate.” …This is the homosexual lobby taking it out on the rest of society and they are demanding affirmation for their lifestyle, that’s at the bot...

They Can't Even Say It Anymore

Their favorite phrase they don't even want to embrace anymore : So funny how ridiculous and insane events change an insane party's audacity.

The You Can't Make This Stuff Up Thread For 4/15/10: Who Knew Crooked Bankers Were Good MC's

Image
Because it's too funny and infuriating at the same time : Politico reports that two years earlier, with WaMu at the center of the expanding subprime-mortgage bubble, company lenders gathered at a retreat in Hawaii to celebrate their wealth — by rapping. In a “Karaoke-style ode to greed – complete with faux WaMu rappers tossing play money into the crowd,” lenders re-mixed the 1992 hip-hop hit “Baby Got Back” into their own “I Like Big Bucks”: “I like big bucks and I cannot lie/You mortgage brothers can’t deny,” sang the WaMu rappers. The presentation, which included cheerleaders moving in time to the music, and choreographed moves by the singers, continued: “That when the dough roles in like you’re printin’ your own cash/And you gotta make a splash/You just spends/Like it never ends/“ Speechless am I. I have got to see if Sir Mix-A-Lot got some money from the bailout, even if Lehman Brothers is long gone. Better yet, did Sir Mix-A-lot get paid by WaMu for them even doing h...

It's Not Just Him.........It's How They All Feel

If SOP Missouri idiot Congressman Roy Blunt had his way, adults would still be discriminated on the basis on them having a pre-existing condition. Now I don't know if that is a great move for trying to not be the party fully aligned with fighting for the heart and souls of the wonderful people at the health insurance companies. But at least he's nuttiness was fully open to his constituents and the local media for all to see ! All of us (and I just don't mean the folks apart of the rational online community, I mean everyone) should know by now that this is how all the Republicans feel about their fellow citizens. A feeling of nothing for them. Nothing at all. Blunt doesn't give a single thought of consideration on raped women or anyone else denied coverage for even the simplest of things. And it is just the latest shocking example of how unshocking these insane psychopaths are.

Only For This President....

....Does he have to receive billboards slamming him like this : Only this President.

The Straight Jacket Award For 3/26/10: Sickos

These people really are just sickening : Unbelivable sickening:

Gosh, It's Like He's Immune To Intelligence

It just doesn't dumbfound the soul enough : It just doesn't.

Straight Jacket Award For 3/23/10: Domestic Terrorists...........That Some Still Won't Call Terrorists

Image
Sadly not surprising, but utterly disturbing and scary: Vandals have struck the Tuscon office of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), the Monroe County Democratic Committee headquarters in upstate New York, Rep. Louise Slaughter’s (D-NY) Niagara Falls office, the Knox County Democratic headquarters in Ohio, and the Sedgwick County Democratic Party headquarters in Wichita, KS. The local Rochester ABC affiliate now has more information on the upstate NY vandalism, including an assassination threat against the children of lawmakers who voted for health reform: No one was inside when the brick was hurled through the Democratic Patry Headquarters on University Avenue. Attached was a note quoting conservative Barry Goldwater: “Exremism [sic] in defense of liberty is no vice”. [...] [Rep. Louise] Slaughter has been at the center of the push for reform. Last Thursday she received a chilling recorded message at her campaign office. “Assassinate is the word they used…toward the children of la...

Yesterday Leftovers For 3/19/10: Who Knew The Word "Respectful" Changed Its Definition

In the minds of anyone rational, Bret Baier is a hypocrite, hack, liar, and a perfect example of the Clown Network's "down the middle" anchors/reporters : And it makes me chuckle further when he calls what he does "respectful" The audacity of arrogant stupid people with crazy agendas. I can never get enough of it.

Richard Shelby (Sen-Airbus)

Image
As you have all heard by now (or read by now) the news of Alabama Republican knucklehead Senator Richard Shelby providing another reason why the Senate is broken by holding "Up or Down" votes on President Obama nominees, "Thee" emptywheel points to the key reason why Shelby is being an annoying jerk as usual The key issue is that Shelby wants the Air Force to tweak an RFP for refueling tankers so that Airbus (partnered with Northrup Grumman) would win the bid again over Boeing. The contract had been awarded in 2008, but the GAO found that the Air Force had erred in calculating the award. After the Air Force wrote a new RFP ( TWD note: RFP means "Request For Protocol" ) in preparation to rebid the contract, Airbus calculated that it would not win the new bid, and started complaining. Now, Airbus is threatening to withdraw from the competition unless the specs in the RFP are revised. Essentially, then, Shelby’s threat is primarily about gaming this b...

The Regular Runthrough For 1/4/10

Image
Busy today with stuff.....the run through is quite long and entertaining: Even if they are the leaders of racists, why give racists the time of day. We know they are stupid people, so why bother with stuff that was almost a year ago ? Hope the salient point I have stayed has been made after seeing that. Even if they used Google , they probably wouldn't be able to read it properly. Just like with Dreck with his appendix, I guess Blowbaugh likes the SEIU union socialized medicine hospitals. The chants of a second stimulus will continue to exist . Yemen is letting it be known now that there will be no foreign intervention into their country in dealing with Al Qaeda. Not a belief that I will go to Vegas and bent the 40 acres on. Another future Minnesota nutcase to hear from in the future? That George Soros-Hillary Clinton line has been taken into the new decade I see. What a surprise. I will thank the Lord if this slowly fades away from our vapid corporate media's eyes . I wi...

Health Care Reform Chronicles Thread #1 For 12/10/09: The Runthrough

First, NYCEVE is at a free health clinic in Kansas City. It is a deep : Here is live coverage of that Health Care Clinic: Visit msnbc.com for breaking news , world news , and news about the economy Jew Lewison has written something that is probably the realest post today that can be made about the entire process as a whole: I tend to doubt there's any chance of this happening, but I'm thinking it would be smart for President Obama to concede that the Senate health care bill has serious flaws, even though on balance he believes it is a step forward on health care reform. The basic reason is simple: it's the truth, and that's something the public appreciates from its leaders Instead, the only thing you'll here though is "This bill isn't perfect, but it's a good start" or something along those lines. Nancy Pelosi softens her stand on the public option , and that will make fierce House progressives not happy. Apparently, Harry Reid sent more that one t...

10/19/09: TWD's Agenda For The Day: Overview of Senate Health Care Bill

Image
Igor Volsky compares both the Senate bill written last night and the House bill passed . He also compares the merged Senate bill with the piece of crap and corporate giveaway of the Senate Finance Bill. Still a lot more people uninsured with the merged opt-out bill in the Senate than what should be. Shouldn't 94% be 100%? You would think so, huh? The people at FDL sure don't like it one bit. From Ms.Hamsher : Yet in the midst of quibbling about $90 billion a year for health care, the President just signed a one year $680 billion defense spending bill , which does not include the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This represents a serious problem with the priorities of those in government. And Slinker : Those are the provisions that were removed from the public option in the Senate HELP bill. The CBO also estimated that the public option in the Senate merged bill will only have 3 million customers at best, because of the opt-out provision which many erroneously support...
