And Ed Rendell is not a happy man. Turnout was a little better than I thought, but still dreadful. Well, hats off to how terrific Joe Sestak ran this campaign. Most including me, as I have said countless times, thought he wasn't aggressive enough and didn't talk about himself enough to win in the party, seemingly letting Specter get out with his fake fierce lefty ties. But he has played this perfectly, resulting in tremendous momentum and one of the greatest political ads of all time in this one: Well done to him, as a classy move by Specter despite how devastated he is, and how mad some of his operatives are at Obama for passing the state by today . Then again, maybe he has done all of that (with the Obama Administration there to do it with him as past of Team Arlen) in the days leading up to the point, making him just tired and sighing at what seems to be the inevitable result that he didn't want to see. Always great laugh : Appearing on the "Ed Show", Rendell didn't apply even the slightest bit of sugar coating to his advice. Specter, he said, would kill Sestak in a primary largely because he has a history of aiding constituents, has the backing of the party machinery, and is supported by the president. "I'm a great admirer of Joe Sestak and worked hard to get him elected and re-elected," Rendell said. "And I'm going to work hard to get him re-elected when he runs for Congress next year. After a lot of criticism on how he has run his campaign, I have to say that Joe Sestak has perfectly played his hand : Sestak: I'm Joe Sestak, the Democrat. I authorized this message. Joe Sestak has an interesting story that sure made the White House angry yesterday. Via TPM , the Philadelphia Inquirer has a story that Sestak was offered a job by the Obama Administration to get out of challenging Arlen Specter for his Senate seat, only to decline. Unsurprisingly, the White House declined this vehemently. But I clearly believe Sestak and his office on this one. The Administration didn't want to deal with the headache of Sestak running against their "Welcome back" buddy on the road to becoming the next conservative headache in this party if he gets re-elected. Even though the headache will be more Specter acting like a Lieberman, Nelson, Lincoln, Landrieu, Bayh any other conservadem whenever he wanted (unless they don't mind the headache of the corporatists in the Senate).
