The 2nd Thread For 8/10/10: The Article Was Just As Dumb As Gibbs

Image
While the majority focuses on Gibbs stupid comments (at least he had the courage to come out on record and say it instead of hiding anonymously as Greenwald indicated nicely ), attention needs to begiven for how craptacular the Hill's Sam Youngman wrote his article today . He phrases the typical corporate media lazy response of all the left being angry with Obama here: In late July, Obama made a surprise video appearance, with an assist from Maddow, at the NetRoots Nation convention in Las Vegas, where the professional left had gathered to grouse about its disappointment in the president. Yet, just a few paragraphs above, he scribes: Gibbs said the professional left is not representative of the progressives who organized, campaigned, raised money and ultimately voted for Obama. Progressives, Gibbs said, are the liberals outside of Washington “in America,” and they are grateful for what Obama has accomplished in a shattered economy with uniform Republican opposition and...

The Blatant Ignoring Of The John Ensign Scandal

Image
If you just received news from our sad cable media, you would just think that Charlie Rangel was the only ethic scandal in town going on (well, before the one on Maxine Waters was brought up over the weekend). Yet just as big of a story (and even more juicy in the details) is the continued ongoing mess of Nevada Republican Senator John Ensign, which has had such a hard time finding attention again on the television screen after Rick Sanchez properly embarrassed the philandering fool at the exact end of last year . After The Hill reported on the latest developments last Friday , both Chris Hayes and Steve Benen were the only ones to re-ask the salient question (that they of course knew the answer to) on "Why the spotlight on Rangel while Ensign's situation with new developments, still remained under their colleagues' peripheral?" Visit msnbc.com for breaking news , world news , and news about the economy Benen and Hayes pertinent focus on Republican ethics pro...

The Cruel Nature Of How Orrin Hatch Hates Poor People

Image
What a sick individual this man continues to be : Welfare and unemployment beneficiaries would have to pass a drug test to qualify for programs under an amendment offered Tuesday by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). Hatch introduced an amendment to the tax extenders bill that would require those who are applying for some of the benefits in that bill, including unemployment and welfare benefits, to pass a drug test in exchange for the benefits. "Drugs are a scourge on our society — hurting children, families and communities alike," Hatch said in a statement. "This amendment is a way to help people get off of drugs to become productive and healthy members of society, while ensuring that valuable taxpayer dollars aren’t wasted.” So shocking was this that Digby had to have a perspective on the latest cruelty from this royal nutcase from Utah: See the only reason that someone doesn't have a job in this thriving economy is because they are drug addicts. Hatch is just tryi...

Like They Are In The NCAA Tournament

With the momentum of the Obama Administration finally deciding to use recess appointments for the likes of Craig Becker being felt , Nancy Pelosi indicates that should be the commencement and not the conclusion of the Democrats staying on the gas pedal. From The Hill reporter Ian Swanson, the Speaker of the House urges her colleagues in the House to stay active as Easter break approaches: Members returning to their districts should tout the new healthcare law’s benefits to their constituents, according to the “recess packet” issued by Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) office this week and obtained by The Hill. Members should “convey the immediate benefits of health reform to your constituents (such as better prescription drug benefits for seniors, tax credits for small businesses and prohibiting insurance companies from canceling your policy if you get sick),” the memo said. But emphasizing what the health insurance reform bill will do isn't the only homework House Dems should be doing, ...

9/24/09: TWD's Agenda For The Day- And Why Did Obama Pick Him Again?

Maybe to insure that the status quo stays and stays long and well. The Senate has been fairly clear that they cannot pass a healthcare bill including a public option, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel asserted Wednesday evening. Emanuel professed pessimism that healthcare reform would include a strict public (or "government-run") option, though he signaled an expectation that House liberals may still push for the prized reform. "I think Senate's been clear about the prospect there is," Emanuel told PBS's Charlie Rose when asked if healthcare can pass with the public option. "That doesn't mean in the House they're not going to come to the table and demand it." Yeah, real sweet for the "Triggerman". He is such a cape crusader of defending the status quo and the corporate lobbyist destroying a good bit of the Democratic Party after it has basically ended a rational chance at getting anyone from the Republican Party to act wit...
