The Flashback Fridays #1 For 4/19/14 (Special Edition 20th Anniversary of Illmatic): Nas - Halftime (1992/1994)

Image
Even before the album was released, at 18 in 1992 sir Nasir created "Halftime" with the drum Christmas snars in full effect from Large Professor's brilliance instrumental. It was the first single of his career and started it all, from the other nine tracks on the album to the career we see today. "You couldn't catch me in the streets without a ton of reefer/ That's like Malcolm X, catchin the Jungle Fever/" "Nas, Why did you do it?/ you know you got the mad fat fluid when you rhyme, it's halftime/" "These are the lyrics of a man, you can't near it, understand/Cause in the streets, I'm well know like the number man." "Puttin hits on 5-0/ Cause when it's my time to go, I wait for God wit the fo'-fo'/" So for those who still don't know, this is the first song of the career of Sir Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones. It's "Halftime", and it's needed video. More to come from Th...

The 1st Thread For 12/13/12: Because We Can't Get Rid of 12-12-12

Image
The fact that Kanye, who is from Chicago, performed at the 12-12-12 concert Wednesday night at MSG shows how hastily organized and one-dimensional the creation of an otherwise great show. It's what happens when you have myopic big corporations like Chase and GE organize usual fundraisers like this. When you have alternative pop rock legends on the stage like that (and Billy Joel, an accomplished legend in his own right, regardless of how some think he really isn't and has never been rock music), it clearly is a night of epic performers on the same stage that you frankly will only be organized a hand full of times in life. But let's be honest here. The higher-ups who organized this event just really catered it to a middle to late aged white crowd here in the five borough area, as the cameras predominantly showed. And they only picked Kanye (and Alicia Keys) because well, they were major stars who the middle aged white crowd would know instead of even a N...

It's whatever : The "Glee - The Music Volume 3: Showstoppers" soundtrack arrives at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart as expected, starting with 136,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. The cast of "Glee" claimed its first No. 1 recently with "The Power of Madonna," when that seven-song EP arrived at the top with 98,000. "Showstoppers" is the third proper full-length soundtrack from the Fox TV show. The first two volumes were released in quick succession last November and December. This third edition includes highlights from the second half of "Glee's" debut season. A forthcoming six-track EP titled "Journey to Regionals" is due on June 8. (Don't peek at its tracklist if you don't want upcoming episodes to be spoiled.) The Rolling Stones with their re-release of "Can't Be Tamed" hit #2 with a 76K, with the weeks' highest debut from the Black Keys ("Brothers") coming in ...

Music Thread #1 For 4/13/10: Nas To Play Kelis Lots Of Dinero

Image
Whether it is $250 or $350K , either way, Nas will be playing Kelis something large. American rap superstar Nas was ordered by a court on Monday, to pay $290,000 to his ex wife Kelis on top of all her legal and accounting fees, according to TMZ. The Milkshake singer Kelis reportedly summoned her ex hubby to court as he had been failing to keep up with his child support payments for the son together Knight, as well as spousal support. Kelis’s legal team claimed that the rapper currently owed her $56,911. Your certainly won't be seeing photos like that one above with them together anymore.

Music Thread #1 For 9/29/09: The Runthrough, Including Nas Thoughts on Derrion Albert And "The Boss" News

Image
In the continued aftermath of Derrion Albert, Nas offered his thought on such a tragic event . The Duh of the month , even though I still believe it was staged. DJ AM's death was caused by an accidental overdose . Sad. Forgot this dude was even on "Dancing With The Stars." Talk about being forgotten. The latest rapper to get a reality show....... Fabolous . Just when I think things will be right with DMX, he goes and does something like this . Just crazy. And "The Boss" is still rolling strong. More to come, Peace. Music Thread for 6/16/09: Mariah Carey Sets Release Date For Her 12th Album

Image
Photo from Billboard Nick Cannon's wife is releasing her 12th album, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" on August 25th. She is certainly dropping a lot of albums of lat, because the last one wasn't really well received at all. And the numbers she has on Twitter is massive by the way Since entering the studio earlier this year, Carey has been giving updates about the album with regularity to her 600,000-plus followers on the microblogging site. Damn. Cassie's time has already pass. And that's absurd to say that about someone who is 22, unless it's true. And I'm 22. Timbaland and Nelly furtado are getting sued.......by a record label.......... from Helsinki, Finland . I wonder if a label in Antarctica exists? I never heard of him until now sadly, but TWD Condolences to Bob Bogle of rock band The Ventures. He passed away day at 75. If this true, damn Nas, Damn. And I don't like to get into marriage details because it stupid gossip, but here's anot...

Music Thread #2 of 10/21/08- Bandwagoner Jay-Z Joins Nas As Obama Supporters; And Obama Apperas on 106 & Park

It took forever from him to speak up about this (Will I.Am and Wyclef Jean have put him, and almost every other hip-hop artist, to shame), but Hova says he's behind Obama. The Beyonce endorsement won't be too far behind. A little earlier this month, Nas was at Hampton University, encouraging those to believe down there: Butt kissing Terrence and Rosci actually don't screw up the interview with the Democratic nominee: Jay-Z again, though he doesn't do the best job of clearly explaining the ID sitation when voting. But he gets the message out: Peace!
