The Dayton Daily News reported Thursday that Baker and the club were close to a deal that would bring back the 61-year-old skipper. Baker, the Reds' manager since 2008, was offered a new deal in mid-August but has refused to speak publicly about negotiations. The offer was believed to be for at least two seasons.
