Sports Sunday Thread #1 For 1/17/10: Team Favre Dominates Cowboys To Advance To NFC Championship

Image
Both Photos From NFL.com With how he has played today and all season, hell, if he retires and then un-retires five more times, I would have no problem with it in my book. 9-0 at the Metrodome this season....9-0.

Sports Saturday Thread #2 For 1/9/10: So What Were You Saying About Us?

Image
Photo from US Presswire Finally, most of sports America can stop obsessing over anything negative about Tony Romo, Wade Phillips, and the rest of the Cowboys. Unless you are an Eagles fan. It was a totally dominating night on both sides of the ball from the Cowboys, though this salient fact needs to be mentioned: The Philadelphia Eagles didn't know that they are actually allowed to run the football. Always a pass first outfit, Andy Reid didn't even bother to think about establishing any sort of ground game tonight. A shocking total of 13 rushes from the Eagles, with both Leonard Weaver and LeSean McCoy only getting 5 carries in between. And there wasn't a single one for the hobbled Brian Westbrook tonight. In comparison, it was a complete balance attack for Romo and company tonight. Felix Jones's explosive burst tonight is a reason why they missed him last year when he went, and Roy Williams arrived to the party that Miles Austin has hosted all year long. It was all eng...

Sports Saturday Thread #2 For 12/19/09: FINALLY For Both Teams

Image
Photo from NFL.com's Joe Robbins Finally a defeat for the Saints after 14 games (where Mercury Morris and the Dolphins are happy), and finally a week where the pressure won't be on Wade Phillips, Tony Romo, and the rest of the team . Unless your name is Nick Folk, who will probably be relieved of his duties.

Sports Thread #3 For 9/28/09: UGly Win, But Cowboys Will Take It

Image
Photo from AP's Donna McWilliam And maybe for the Cowboys, it is better that they win ugly , because at least the edge was there for them. Meanwhile for the Panthers, only 16 rushes for both Williams and Stewart? John Fox is going to be under some heat, I have to say.

Sports Thread #1 for 12/12-14/08: The Right Choice For The Cowboys

Image
Photo from the Associated Press Tashard Choice wasn't the primary reason why the Cowboys scored a clutch victory over an ailing New York Giants team on Sunday Night Football. The defense, led by DeMarcus Ware, Greg Ellis, Bradie James, and Terence Newman, were the clear stars of the game, harassing Peyton Manning and both Tom Coughli and Giants fans all over question how stagnant their offense is without Brandon Jacobs to go along with the already self-inflicted absence of Plaxico Burress. But damnit, the little known rookie is a close second. That was certainly evident in the fourth quarter, and particularly, in the final scoring drive of Dallas' crucial 21-8 victory over the reigning Super Bowl champs. Lost in Choice's 38 yard, first career touchdown run is the fact that despite Tony Romo still ending up on his back, Choice at times provided valuable blitz pickup against the locomotive like front line of the title holders. But that key, "incognito to the box score de...

Sports Thread for 11/27/08: Blowouts To Them on NFL Thanksgiving 2008

Image
(Photo from mlive.com)This sign couldn't be more true Brian van Ochten of mlive.com made a terrific point in column assessing the misery that is the Detroit Lions and their franchise after failing to 0-12 in a 47-10 defeat to the Tennessee Titans today, their worst loss ever on this holiday. This was ion regards to lame turkey coach Rod Marinelli, and how even the venerable but still young Jeff Fisher of all coaches did a classless thing: It is impossible to sugarcoat the painful fact Marinelli is 10-34, including 13 losses in a row and defeats in 19 of his last 20 games at the helm. It's not as if the team is improving either; it keeps getting worse all the time. Even his peers show him no respect. It is a code among NFL head coaches to not run up the score, call timeouts in the fourth quarter of routs or throw needless challenge flags in the final minutes of games -- unless, of course, it involves New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and former protege Eric Mangini of th...

Sports Thread #2 for 10/8-9/08- Possible Hit Job on Adam Jones?

Image
From the Dallas Morning Star Though his past has placed him into getting this type of coverage, it is still rather unfair that Adam Jones is getting negative press for something that either may not have happen or is getting blown out of propotion so much that even the phrase "blown out of propotion" is offended. Already, we have idiot reporters, like the braindead anchors on the Crayola Crayons two second sports segment on MSNBC's First Read this morning declare that "Jones is in trouble with the law again" again. Yes, he's in "trouble with the law again" despite having no chargers against him, with the likelihood of hearsay and rumors creating this report instead of true evidence? Just because "he may have been drinking?" May have? Hell, he didn't even get charged for breathing. You can think whatever you wantt about Jones ahd his reckless past. And to me, I believe he was gulity in Las Vegas for what went down at that strip club i...
