The Flashback Fridays For 10/10/14: Harlem World - I Really Like It (1999)

Image
The short lived Harlem World, Mase's group, made one notable impression on the game at least with their debut single on their only album, which went gold. "I Really Like It" off "The Movement" was a good start to what could have been a group with multiple albums created. Instead, Harlem World disbanded the following year in 2000, never to form again. They all went their separate ways in life (which sadly included the car accident death of Huddy in 2010 ) and just had this one standout track in their short lived tenure. With the superb production effort of the legendary Just Blaze, Supa Sam, and Mase himself, it's "I Really Like It," your Flashback Friday choice of the week. More to come at TWD, stay tune.

The Flashback Fridays #1 For 9/26/14: Mase- Breathe, Stretch, Shake (2004)

During the Mase comeback trail a decade ago, this second single off "Welcome Back" after the same titled single added to one of the underrated albums of the decade in terms of how positive it was. Still an untempo hit to this date, "Breathe, Stretch, Shake" represented how Mase could have still been relevant in the 2000s had he not made the disastrous decision to join G-Unit. Anyway, here is the 2004 hit as your first Flashback Friday choice of the day: More to come at TWD, stay tuned.

The Flashback Fridays #1 For 5/23/14: Mase feat Total - What You Want (1997)

When Mase was at the top of his game, but still right in the aftermath of Biggie's death. "Harlem World" went four times platinum back in 1997 and featured his full star appeal in the game before it all faded away with Bad Boy losing their luster and his decision to go retire to the Lord. Despite all the history and transformations, Mason Durell Bertha is still just 36 years old and even planning to do a new album after finally getting out of his Bad Boy contract in December 2012. Although this was the third popular single from his smash debut, it went higher on the Billboard Top 100 (#6) than "Looking at Me" (reached #8) and just was a whisker under "Feels So Good" #5 pinnacle. Your Flashback Friday music choice for this week, it's Mase featuring Total and their smooth, underrated hit "What You Want." The Flashback Friday #2 For 9/17/10: Puff Daddy, Mase & Carl Thomas- Been Around The World Remix (1998)

Your 2nd Flashback Friday selection of the day, from 1998, it's when Sean Combs was his first name, dancing around videos as the attention whore in him grew and grew. With a Mase and Carl Thomas when they mattered back then, it's the remix to "Been Around The World", rounding out The Flashback Friday for this week.

Music Thread #1 for 7/27/09: The Runthrough, Including Queen Latifah's Return To Music

Image
(Your first music thread of the day.) Someone should ask Diddy on Twitter why his restaurant owes the IRS some money in Atlanta. The new Billboard site is nice . Yayy to Queen Latifah coming back to rap . What a glorious thing to read. Foreigner's comeback will exclusively be at Wal-Mart. Um, who is Foreigner? Oh Mase . And this story will keep on going.....and going....and going....with each passing day. More to come in the second music thread in the evening.
