The Sports Thread #1/Premier League Thread For 12/4/13: Luis Suarez- Norwich Killer

Full Time Final: Everton Win at Old Trafford For First Time Since 1992; Arsenal Keep Rising What another amazing round of fixtures in the Barclays Premier League, with a third of a season complete, it is rounding into potentially the greatest title race ever, with many contenders vying not only for the coveted Top 3/4, but for the overall title.  For the moment, Arsenal continue their great start to the season with a comfortable win against Hull as expected, 2-0 on the night, but the real test for them, just like it was at Old Trafford, comes now with them starting a three game phase against Everton, Manchester City, and Chelsea, with their important Champions League final group game at Napoli in the middle.  And speaking of Old Trafford and Everton, what a great, tight match with open play it was between David Moyes ' old and new side, which went to his replacement Roberto Martinez 's new men off a late winner from Bryan Oviedo.  But of course ...

The Sports Thread #1 For 11/27/13: 2013-14 UEFA Champions League, Group Stage Matchday 10 (PostMatch Versions)

Photo from UEFA.com/Getty Team of the Day Best XI of @ChampionsLeague Matchday 10 - De Gea; Evra, Rakitskiy, Evans, Arbeloa; Vidal, Giggs, Douglas Costa; Di Maria, Rooney, Bale — Andrew Jerell Jones (@sluggahjells) November 27, 2013 Player of the Day: Arturo Vidal & Ryan Giggs  On a normal day, a player like Vidal would be the clear winner, with a hat trick performance that wasn't produced by Messi or Ronaldo. However, with how wonderful United's display was tonight, a 5-0 thrashing over Leverkusen, it was a historic result that featured at the heart of it, a soon to be 40-year-old legend in Giggs.  The timeless Welchman's passing was excellent and his smooth movement was ever present. Giggs continues to show why, at such an elite level, why he continues to still be around this club and this sport.   More to come from this thread at The Whole Delivery.  Halftime Thread - Goal of the Day  Goal Gareth Bale - Real Madrid 1-0...

The Live Thread For 11/15/12 (First Version): The Gaza Outbreak

Image
Photo from Al Jazeera   As Zionists like Netanyahu continue their disproportionate attacks on Gaza, stay in touched here and many other places on another assault on Gaza. And the tweet that was deleted from the world class coward that is Netanyahu. Thanks goodness Andrew Kaczynski caught it. He tried to use Obama for justification of his attacks, for his own selfish political motives in order to save himself from losing the election next year to Ehud Barak in 2013. He is a liar, a deceiver, and a clown. (More coverage to come....)

Sports Sunday Thread #2 For 10/3/10: NFL Week 4 Early Game Conclusions

Image
(Photo from the AP) Joe Flacco grew as a quarterback today, leading the Ravens to a satisfying 17-14 road win over the Steelers to go to 3-1 with their bitter rivals. In the other AFC North contest, the battle of Ohio, Senace Wallace and Peyton Hillis lead the Browns to their first win of the season over the Bengals 23-20. Terell Owens did have a remarkable day however, finishing with 10 catches for 220 yards. The Jets hammered the Bills 38-14 behind another rejuvenated effort from LaDanian Tomlinson. They go to 3-1 while the Bills are still winless. It was heartbreak for the 49ers today, as the Falcons pull it off with a field goal from to win 16-14. Atlanta goes to 3-1, while San Francisco still desperate for that first win. The Saints were able to pull off their latest close one at the Superdome this week, holding off a valiant Panthers team 16-14. The same could be said of the Lions being tough, but their qualify effort was not enough in the Packers getting a 28-26...

Rangers hold Manchester United to a 0-0 draw thanks to the Glasgow outfits' dogged defending and great organization. Twente FC and defending champions Inter Milan ended up 2-2 after all four goals were scored in an exciting first half. The 1st Thread For 9/10/10: Special ED-ucation Needed For CNN's Henry In Obama Press Conference

Image
Besides the usual hammering the obstructionist nutcases, being ardent in defending Muslim rights in this country, and even having to ask a question about Guantanamo Bay (good on you Ann Compton) ask to him, President Obama in his press conference had one moment that certainly caught my eye. And exhibited how much of a joke our modern day thing masquerading as journalism is. Ed Henry added to his idiot highlight reel, asking Obama, "If you don't be able to capture Osama bin Laden, would it be a failure of your Administration on foreign policy in the midst of going after and fighting terrorists?" Obama was probably as perplexed as most who have truly payed attention to whether the current Administration has gone hard after terrorists to hearing Henry offer up another pathetic press corps catastrophe. Simply put, the Administration has already killed more Al Qaeda operatives in its time in office than the entire Bush Administration did in their forgettable tenure, wi...

The 2010 US Open Thread/Sports Thread #2 For 9/8/10: Roger And Caroline Advance To Tennis Version Of "Final Four Weekend"

Image
Photo: AP Photo/Mark Humphrey Roger Federer has advanced to his 7th straight US Open semifinals, impressively dispatching of his French Open conqueror Robin Soderling 6-4. 6-4, 7-5. It was a match that turned out to feature Federer's usual legendary mentality, winning the big points and not letting Soderling get comfortable with any lead in the match. Making the win more impressive was the 5 time champion's serving and hitting in this atrocious windy condition tonight, though credit has to also be given to Soderling for his lack of groundstroke shanks in "The Wind Bowl" that was Arthur Ashe Stadium. But the Swede will be chastising himself over not taking his chances to turn the match around, wasting his early comeback from a break down in the 2nd set and dropping his chance to serve out the third with four brutal errors at 5-3. And with Federer's sensing Soderling's dejection at letting his chances go to push the match further than the minimum, the 16-...

The 2010 US Open Thread/Sports Thread #1 For 9/8/10: Djokovic Thru To The US Open Semis Once More

Image
For the fourth straight year, Novak Djokovic has advanced to the semifinal stage of the US Open, a straight sets win over his talented but mentally challenged friend Gael Monfils. The 7-6 (2), 6-1, 6-2 was Djokovic's 4th straight win without conceding a set, giving the Serbian enough fuel in the tank to possibly win on both Saturday and Sunday to claim an unlikely 2nd Grand Slam title. It was a total disappointment from Monfils, who started the match so well with the aggressive tactics coach Roger Rasheed urged from him. But as that first set progressed, the wind started to get into the Frenchman's head, and his usual alarming passivity spelled his demise. Though Djokovic also had his typical negatives flare up in this encounter (getting frustrated easily, poor volleying at the net), he maintained his consistency enough on the big efforts. Djokovic awaits the winner of Roger Federer and Robin Soderling tonight in what will probably be the first semifinal on Saturday.

The Live Thread/House of Lords For 8/5/10: Elena Kagan's Nominated To The Supreme Court (63-37 Is The Final Total)

Image
Elena Kagan nomination live and at the moment, as she is expected to pass with several moments of the nutcase party voting her in. The live coverage of the vote is here, on C-Span website . And as I predicted, it was 63-37 . Ben Nelson becomes the first Dem Senator since 1967 to vote against a Democratic appointed President. Collins, Snowe, Graham, Gregg and Lugar voted for her. Besides that, everyone else went with the party line, including Sanders and Joey Lie (Lieberman). Kagan becomes the 112th Supreme Court Justice and 4th women in history.
