The New York Times Embarrasses Itself.................AGAIN

Image
Half of this writer thought that when I saw this New York Times piece on Bill Halter yesterday , I was perplexed by the timing of the article. Two days before the primary runoff he's favored to win, and you run an article that has the ability to cause voter deflation for Halter and not for Blanche Lincoln? Hmmmmmm? Well, that "hmmmmm" turned out to be a good "hmmmm." And that suspicion of another New York Times' hit piece has come full to full bore . The New York Times conveniently picks today to run a hit piece on Bill Halter. It’s rife from top to bottom with misinformation. One “Lara Bergthold, a left-wing political consultant” is quoted, who worked with Halter on the 2003 Wes Clark campaign: “The one thing that united the campaign was dislike of Bill Halter,” Ms. Bergthold said. “He was the only person I know of that left the campaign not of his own volition.” Wes Clark is, without question, one of the most despised candidates of all time by h...

Yesterday's Leftovers #2 For 3/19/10: I Wouldn't

Image
Seriously, who would take progressives threats to not vote for any future bill seriously on anything after this entire process : But what's not reasonable is to pretend that Emanuel wasn't right in his core assumption about progressive behavior. Nobody likes to acknowledge their own powerlessness, but no good can come from shutting one's eyes and pretending it's not true. It's a genuine problem that the threats and demands of progressives (for lack of a better term) aren't taken seriously at all, and will be taken even less seriously now. Facing that problem is a prerequisite to finding a way to solve it. So on whether it's immigration reform, or a job bill, or a possible second stimulus, or EFCA or anything else, I just wouldn't take any threat serious from the progressive caucus. And it doesn't facilitate the situation for any real, future stand when they are juxtaposed around the word irrational by liberal bloggers. So maybe we should jus...

People Struggling With College Loans, Meet One Jamie Gorelick

Image
Some of you today may have read how Sallie Mae is planning to stop President Obama's Student Loans "Get the middle man" out ambitious plans. Well, meet the one leading Sallie Mae's efforts in trying to accomplished that really shameful action. Her name is Jamie Gorelick. Now, there maybe some of you that know of this lady's history since being the Clinton Administration's Deputy Attorney General and appointee for Tom Daschle's Commissioner for of the 9/11 attacks. I am in the crowd of those who would have said "Who" if you mentioned her name to me this morning. And for those still not privy to any information on Gorelick, this individual has a rap sheet that resembles a cross between Carly Fiorina and a Citibank executive. Her time at Fannie Mae sure was something that should make her eligible for white and black stripes, if you know what I mean. Even though she had no previous training nor experience in finance, Gorelick was appointed...

The Daily Open Thread #2 For 12/17/09: Two Of My Favorite Moments Of The Day

First, everyone's most favorite moment of the day: May Jay Rockefeller proceed to tell Al Franken "to grow up" after this. I sure knew McCain did. And Lieberman may now demand that Al Franken not be able to vote on health care after that one. Second, and almost as good, was how Ms. Jane handled her good old pal and favorite snakeman, Lanny Davis. Oh was it lovely too. Now Davis tries to bring up Jane's past with that "blackface" thing in 06 for Lieberman, which was a mistake in the past that she has admitted to plenty of times. That's over. But Davis as always is a shill, a liar, and wouldn't admit how he was speaking for the drug companies. And boy, it was great to see Jane, and Ed, pin him on that. More to come everyone.

The Sleep Time/Rise "n" Shine Thread For 10/19-20/09: Firedog Forever!

Image
This specific TSTRNS thread is dedicated to one Jane Hamsher, and her dog Kobe who passed away : Kobe is the one on the left, and though I never asked her how many dogs she has or how many she owned, Jane is clearly a dog lover who went on to knit with her homie from high school to make something in remembrance of Kobe . Loved ya Jane, and so definitely did Kobe. The last and first mail Try giving this study information to a lot in this country who have no pensions anymore, and see how they feel. It probably won't be pretty at all. But speaking of pretty and happy, the recession is not hurting Apple. No, it really, really isn't . With stories like these , no wonder Boing Boing is a very popular blog. Your useless Carrie Perjean news, just one click away ! I guess no more love for the blogger template then ? Sometimes the Internet can just be one scary place with a bad ending . When the college team outdraws the pro team in the pro team's stadium, that's embarrassing....

The Akward Gray Area Of Anonymous Sources Again

Image
Today, John Harwood has felt some heat for those on "Rational online" websites after the White House pushed back on that idiot anonymous advisor who slammed bloggers on this weekend. Now Harwood has told FDL's creator that the advisor was indeed an inside source and not an outsider. I asked Harwood to clarify. He confirmed that the quote came from “an Obama adviser.” He did say that the comments weren’t specifically directed at “the LGBT community or the marchers,” but “referred more broadly to those grumbling on the left about an array of issues including the war in Afghanistan and health care and Guantanamo.” Jane then adds her own two cents This is what happens when journalists allow sources to take cheap shots from behind the cloak of anonymity granted for no good reason. The source doesn’t have to own it if it backfires, and the journalist gets stuck with the reputation for sloppy and erroneous reporting if they decide to dump it on you. Which is exactly what’s ...

Firedoglake's Publisher: White House Values Bill "Win" Over

Image
Firedoglake publisher Jane Hamsher just mentioned probably the most telling thing of this whole debate in her latest post. This is important for you to look at right here. But there is an even bigger problem: Davies, the North Carolina speech therapist, said she attended a recent organizational meeting but left "without any clear script or anything to do." Organizing for America "hasn't contacted me with a really clear mission," Davies said. "If they came to my door and said, 'Here are the 10 things we want you to do,' then I'd probably do it." One complication is that activists are being asked to sell an evolving plan; even Obama hasn't committed to details. And Jane adds this: The teabaggers know what they stand for. The White House, in its desire to take credit for whatever passes and call it a "win," has remained deliberately vague. Nobody wants to walk into the right wing meat grinder with a bunch of crazies over an i...

8/3/09- TWD's Agenda For The Day: Now It Goes on The Road

Image
If it already wasn't on the road, health care debate is now on the road. The House is in recess, and the Senate soon will be after they handle some business and vote on Sotomayor (I think on Tuesday) . And already, the hits, attacks, realness, and craziness of this debate is going down now on the road . If you want to know why members of Congress don't want to take the Pledge to vote down a bill that doesn't have a strong public plan, Mazie Hirono finally says it out loud : Ultimately, Hirono said she was a progressive who firmly believes in the public option, but that she was also someone who counted votes and that the White House would be pressuring them to make a deal. The stakes grow each and every day.

The Daily Open Thread For 7/17/09: Why Is A U.S. Seantor Scared Of The People She Represents?

Because she's knows that someone is on to her lobbyist loving ways. TRONN (The Rational Online News Network) legend Jane Hamsher , in her fight for meaningful health care reform can happen, has put the fear in her Senator, Diane Feinstein, so much that she is barred from meeting with her or even her staffers. Just watch (as she is accompanied by the wonderful NYCeve ). More to come indeed.

Ben Nelson.......Why Are You A Democrat Then?

Image
"Class warfare" he calls the "House Health Care Bill." President Nelson speaks : Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), whose vote will be critical to passing a final healthcare reform bill through the Senate, condemned the House version of the bill, which institutes a surtax on wealthy Americans to finance the $1 trillion bill, as creating "class warfare." "I think it's a devastating blow," Nelson said of the import of the CBO analysis this week that the House healthcare reform proposal would worsen the fiscal situation of the U.S. over time. As Ms.Hamsher points out The only way we get a public plan is if progressives take a stand and refuse to "compromise" with Ben Nelson over something 76% of the public wants. And read the rest of that post from Ms. Hamsher. The insurance industry is going nuts right now. They are scared that their days of thinking about their money instead of people's lives maybe over. And they are doing everything in ...

The Daily Open Thread #2 For 7/9/09: Jane Hamsher Is A Certified "G"

Firedoglake's one and only Jane Hamsher delivered a smackdown and "Woodshed 101" lesson to clueless Jill Bandes of Townhall.com. You don't mess when Jane on this issue........and you don't mess with Jane at all.

More Lameness From Hiatt Releasing Froomkin

Image
I could never see this happening to fresh new media writers like Broader, Ignatius and Krauthammer. But then again, maybe I'm going to much into hyperbole. Via Ms. Hamsher, here's the editor of what use to be a great newspaper explain some more why a journalist who Kos and Glenn Greenwald of all justified media critics fully respected and gave praise to. As Jane notes about the whole traffic thing, and what Hiatt &crew really thought about Froomkin's post: Take a look at the Post's Politics page. Do you see Dan Froomkin's column listed anywhere? Nope. Nor is it listed on the front page. If you want to find his White House Watch, you better know where to look for it. The Post has been trying to kill off Froomkin's audience for a while. Anyone who writes for a web site knows that if you get no main page exposure -- or in this case, even a link on the Politics page -- your traffic is going to take a huge hit, regardless of the quality of your writing. ...
