Compliment Of The Highest Order

It seems almost a daily given that Greg Sargent writes a post at his Plumline blog that you find so unbelievably ridiculous that it has to be made up.

(Un) Luckily though, in this political reality that we live in, the ridiculous is virtually a main part of the current events of our times.

At a health care town hall thrown by little known Republican House member Wally Herger in Redding, California this past weekend (Friday to be exact), read this if you may.

As a staunch advocate of no public option (what a surprise indeed), Rep. Herger was certainly receiving accolades from the heavily partisan crowd of skeptical government viewpoints in the town hall. So extreme were these people that the town hall included this fascinating moment that the local paper includes (once again, through via Sargent's post).
Herger said the federal government does have a limited role to play in health care noting, “We do lots of things that are not in the Constitution.”
“There are things we can do with health care, as long as the government is not running it,” Herger said.

One speaker said he could trace his ancestors back to the Mayflower and said “they did not arrive holding their hands out for help.”

“I am a proud right wing terrorist,” he declared to cheers.

Herger praised the man’s attitude.

“Amen, God bless you,” Herger said with a broad smile. “There is a great American.”
I guess it was "fascinating" in terms of the negative sense. Or maybe, fascinating wasn't the proper choice of words here.

It wasn't hard to figure out how (not) intelligent this Congressman was after reading the sentence introducing him in this post. But for him to even give once ounce of congrats to this man, let alone not even think about denouncing his scary pronunciation of himself as a "proud right wing terrorist" truly amazes and frightens me a little.

How this man was not arrested (and how even the writer of that article didn't consider that thought, or even the newspaper or anyone else for that matter at the town hall) is really concerning here.

I don't think a Muslim man could go and pronounce at a town hall "I'm a terrorist" and everyone claps and says "Ho hum hum hum" and move on to the remaining part of their days.

That disturbing thought aside, it is just the latest evidence required for people to clearly see how pestilent and insanely violent the right-wing in this country. Their lack of knowledge and intense thought will lead to things like this to get uttered.

And what's even worse is the fact that their Congressional figures will let them happily continue to comport themselves as the lunatics they are without denunciation.

Just like Mr. "I'm a proud right-wing Terrorist."

Scary.
