Jay-Z’s relationship with NY Governor David Paterson is one of the points of interest in a federal investigation into AEG’s multi-billion dollar deal for the Aqueduct Race Track racino. The issue revolves around whether the bid selection process was unethical. Questions have arose following AEG’s successful bid since they courted Jay-Z, a good friend of Gov. Paterson, several months before the racino selection was completed. Last month, Governor Patterson awarded AEG (Aqueduct Entertainment Group) with the contract to upgrade the existing Aqueduct Race Track venue, the only one located within the New York City limits. This should be denounced by someone in the Republican Party pronto (though I don't expect it to happen anytime soon). Because it's more than Steve King just being the absolute lunatic he is : Not only is King basically excusing the now dead Joseph Stack for his insane actions last Thursday, but he is also attacking the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with no thought of caution at his mind. The calls for getting rid of the IRS and reconciling with Stack's motives from this man is plenty chilling stuff. King's comment is so pernicious and harmful that it may have already won the Straight Jacket Award for 2010 in just February. It will be a top contender at year's end at the very least. Normally it is worth a laugh when someone wins the Straight Jacket Award. But for today, the award is given out to a beyond frightening moment.

Along with the Maine duo of Collins & Snowe, Ohio's Voinovich, and one Kit Bond, Scott Brown has voted on cloture for Harry Reid's job bills to move it to a final vote. Those five Republicans offset Ben Nelson, who decided to be bipartisan the other way as usual by voting with the rest of Republicans against bringing it to the floor. The final cloture vote was 62-30, and we shall see if this will be the final result overall. David Dayen has some good tidbits on how some Republicans once again voted against a bill where some of their suggestions/provisions were actually placed in the bill. Some fun facts while we wait for the final tally: Orrin Hatch co-authored the centerpiece of this micro-bill, the job creation tax credit. He voted against bringing it to the floor.
