Craziest Story Of The Year

Via Jack and Jill Politics, one of the most incongruous and downright shocking stories you'll ever hear is this one from a blog titled "News Release Now."

It's a shocking story like few others that you will read about, as college student Heather Ellis is starring at 15 years in prison this week........for allegedly cutting a line at Wal-Mart two years ago.

WHAT THE HELL or WHAT THE F(expletive) you are probably saying now to yourself while reading this:
Heather was in a Walmart store 3 years ago with her cousin. The two split up to find the shortest line. Since her cousin was in the shorter line, Heather joined him. That’s when the clerk accused Heather of cutting in front of the other customers. An argument ensued, leading to the manager and security guard being called, and finally the police.

The incident left Ellis, an honor student on her way to medical school, charged with disturbing the peace, trespassing and two counts of assaulting a police officer. After Heather refused to sign a plea agreement, Stephen Sokoloff, the town’s prosecutor, filed felony charges against Heather.
Obviously, Ellis' family and the community behind her have been outraged by this insane decision THAT HAS EVEN LED THIS non-story lead to being talked about like this.

And because of their rightful protest, they receive death threats from none other than the Ku Klux Khan.

Her parents, spoke about how unbelievably difficult this is has been for the family:
Ellis' mother laments, "It really hurts. Really bad. And it's been going on three years and it's still like yesterday."

Pastor Ellis adds, "That injustice could raise his head in such an overt way in which it has affected her life."
All this pain, and all this agony, for allegedly cutting a line that she probably didn't even CUT at all.

And even if she did cut the line (which it looks like SHE DIDN'T), with how this has all transpired, all of this, for 15 YEARS in prison???

Hell, even if she acted anyway awful, which it doesn't sound like at all, this didn't even deserve .015 damn seconds in jail.

And because she didn't want to take a plea deal, the prosecution has gone full throttle in as straight jacket level of a move as possible by trying to send this young woman to jail.

Strike another blow to the supposed post-racial society in America.

(Huge thanks to the always great Liliana Segura for bringing this to my attention on Twitter. )
