The Deft Volleys and S-Thread #2 For 9/5/12: 2012 US Open Day 9/16 (Rain Runs the USTA)
Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain.
No roof, no, no roof.
USTA is a joke as always. Latter, rinse, and repeat.
In terms of when the rain stops and they actually dry the court from the wet, uncovered, puddle hoping mess that it is, then these current three things are relevant: Sharapova was of course lucky last night, Roddick won't be helped by playing in the day in muggy conditions, and it is a damn shame that Errani and Vinci have been relegated to Armstrong.
Now the last point is the most crucial. Errani and Vinci have YET to play on Ashe for the most obvious reason: They aren't Americans or big name stars. With them not playing on Ashe anytime this tournament, they will have a major disadvantage when they play their semifinal against Ivanovic (yes, I have jokes) on Friday.
Ashe is the biggest and weirdest stadium to play in the world, though it can also be the most fun if you have the crowd galvanized by your play instead of being bored by it. New Yorkers expressed their blatant apathy and their inspired euphoria as candid as any city in the world does in terms of being bi-polar.
But neither Errani nor Vinci will have that. And with that likely being a major underdog against Serena on Friday (in serious mode I am right now) they will already be behind a 1.5 games to start that contest.
Anyway, more to come, including more..........rain.
