Sports Thread #2 for 1/7/08: Nightmare Day For Boston College Sports Continues With Basketball Team Losing To Harvard

January 7th, 2009 on Chestnut Hill today will be one that won't be looked upon too fondly (and I don't bring this up because I am a Boston University student).

After Gene DeFilippo fired football coach Jeff Jagodzinski, the Athletic Director at Boston College had to see his basketball program, fresh off of their big upset victory over North Carolina on Sunday, loss to Harvard of all opponents 82-70. Harvard, who couldn't even beat my school's struggling basketball team this year, beats easiest the best basketball school in the Boston/Cambridge area.

Talk about an utter disaster.

Anyway, the quick runthrough. In just a mere 10 days, the Celtics went form unbeatable and record setters to being in a semi-crisis mode, as they dropped another game tonight, this time to the Tracy McGrady-less Rockets tonight 89-85. Their offense has gone into a tailspin of late, and Kendrick Perkins had nothing for Yao Ming tonight at all.

In the NFL, Chargers star LaDanian Tomlinson looks to be out for Sunday's Divisional contest against the Steerlers with a rear in his groin area, while the Cowboys have cut their ties with Adam Jones.

But Jones is way more unhappy with ESPN right, and probably so. Here's why:
Adam Jones is denying an ESPN report that he arranged for someone to shoot at three men outside a Atlanta night club.

In fact an angry Jones said he's planning legal action against the network.

"It will be a lawsuit in a week against ESPN," Jones said. "That's stupid. It's so stupid I have no more comments."

This might be the last time we talk about Pacman here on the blog until tomorrow when he continue our report cards with a look at the secondary.
In the MLB, Theo Epstein is making more smart moves by taking a chance on John Smoltz and also inking Rocco Baldelli, who seemed like he was getting a little of his stride back with Tampa Bay in the playoffs. If Baldelli can stay healthy and even get 60 or 70% of his top form back, it will still be another shrewd signing made by the Sox as the Yankees gather all the glory at the moment.
