Sports Thread #1 for 12/15/08: Please Stick To The Real Business of Sports Darren Revell
One of these things don't below in this pic. And no, it's not the Sacremento Kings defender.
For the stupidest piece of writing outside of the political world I will see this week (and I guaranteed you will as well), please take a look at this indolent piece of garbage written by CNBC's (or whatever he does at NBC Universal) Darren Rovell. I swear, this is borderline Tila Tequila dumb. Rovell somehow claims that the dominance of this year's big three is somehow hurting the league and its economics:
Thankfully, in this tough economic time, the NBA has seen bust out performances from the likes of Kevin Garnett, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. So what Revell is saying, that because the Celtics, Lakers, and Cavs are doing great, that no one will want to come and see them? That no one, a hapless fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder, wouldn't want to see the World Champions like they did earlier in the season on November 3rd and, well, sale out?
I’d usually argue that this is a good thing for the league and that excellence draws more attention. But I’m actually more inclined to think that the dominance of these teams is actually the worst thing the league could have wished for. Why? Because the more teams you have at the .500 mark or better, the better off the league is in terms of convincing people to come out and watch a game or view it on television.
Than, Revell continues his idiotic effort of his baseless assertion by then showing the win percentage of the above .500 teams from the last several years , and leaving the article at that. Darren, wouldn't you, you know, provide further numbers to back up your claims such as, oh, ATTENDANCE FIGURES???????
Geesh, I hate when people write stupid things like Revell did today. How the hell can you prove your point on something, and not even bother to back it up? He might as well have said, "I'm just going to say this just for the heck of it, even though I don't know if the facts back me up at all." I would have certainly had much more respect for him if he said that, and fully accepted the trash that he put out today.
