Sports Thread #2 For 1/1/10: BCS BS Bowl Games (Florida-Cincinnati Preview And Thread)

When the Allstate Sugar Blow was announced a month ago coupled with the aftermath of Brian Kelly heading to be the new coach at Notre Dame, most thought all of the coaching turmoil and adversity would come from a Cincinnati squad clearly emotional over their thoughts of Kelly betraying them.

Instead, in arguably the weirdest and most shocking moment of the college football season, Urban Meyer announced his resignation as head coach of Florida.

And my, how things have spun so fast since then.

Tonight's cash at the superdome between the postseason #1 and the undefeated Big East champions will be a compelling contest with storylines that truly make it feel like more of a national title game than Alabama vs Texas (and TCU-Boise State will probably warrant more hype as well).

Overlooked by the totally unexpected announcement from Meyer (before indicating that he would take a sabatical until next August and leave Steve Addazio in charge until then) is the final game of the legend that is Tim Tebow.

Whether you love him or hate him, Tebow will go down as one of the more decorative players to play at this level.

But standout seniors aren't only prevalent on Florida's side, as the Bearcats' Mardy Gillyard has shown all the qualities this year to not only be in Bearcat Hall Of Fame lure, but the signs of a dynamic playmaker in the NFL next year.

Taking away all those outside factors, the biggest argument coming into the game is whether Cincinnati on both sides of ball could handle the team speed from Florida, a team speed that they clearly haven't seen all year.

Then again, can Florida's aggressive cornerbacks Joe Harden and Janoris Jenkins not bite on long throws from Tony Pike to his fleet wide receiving duo of Gillyard and Armos Binns?

Cincinnati have been tired of hearing the stories from Florida dominating the media, and will show the nation why they are undefeated and every reason to be playing for more than just a bowl game win (even if it is a BCS bowl).

Nevertheless, with their battle tested and smart senior class filled with emotion, and some key parts of their junior class probably playing their final game ever in Gator colors, I think the Gators win a competitive almost thriller tonight.

Enjoy the game.
